Never played a Castlevania game b-4, cant think y

PirateThom5222d ago

Man... try and track down Super Castlevania IV and Symphony of the Night.

Jinxstar5222d ago

Symphony of the night is available on PSN and XBL. If you have the choice I would suggest PSN because of the Dpad and the option to put it on your PSP if you have one for on the go. however to each his own.

Must play game though.

Highatus5222d ago

Yep you can get symphony on psn and xbl. You can also get pretty much every other one on the wiis virtual console.
Castlevania 2: Simons Quest is one of my all time favorite games.

xaviertooth5222d ago

symphony of the night is one of the greatest games of all time. of course imho. go to ps store and download it NOW!

Dutch Boogie5222d ago

Somehow i can just imagine this is the cause off our beloved Mr Kojima. It is nice to know ps3 gamers get the best version of the bat.

PirateThom5222d ago

I wouldn't say that, Kojima's input will be minimal. It's being developed by the people who made Jericho. Konami seem to have slapped Castlevania on it and Kojima fronting it to build hype.

Domenikos5221d ago

Ill need to double check this one

Gothdom5221d ago

hey, the 3-D castlavania's weren't that bad. I mean, I did hate CV64, but I still had fun with CoD and LoI. Of course, they're not the best, far from it, but enjoyable nonetheless

gaffyh5221d ago

All the 3d versions of Castlevania have been crappy so far, but I have faith in KojiPro to make a great game. It would really show up cowboy-san, Koji Igarashi lol.

This is great news, especially after the catastrophe that was Bayonetta.

GameOn5222d ago

What? That 90+ average on metacritic? Please...

PirateThom5221d ago

Just because game scores highly, doesn't mean it wasn't a disaster, see GTAIV.

I didn't like Bayonetta, but I don't think it's a "disaster".

asyouburn5221d ago

then nobody has anything to worry about. i've been loving the game on ps3.

SilentNegotiator5221d ago

He's saying that Bayonetta was a disastrous port, not a disasterous game.

Sheesh, people.

It's bad news for ALL owners.

It's "NOT" being developed by Kojima Productions. It's being developed by Mercury Steam (the same developers that made Clive Barkers: Jericho). Also, the fixed camera is just even worse news.

Even though I knew that this would be some lame God of War clone I had hopes that it may actually be a good 3D Castlevania game. Of course this game will flop and I don't even see why they bothered to call it Castlevania when it will be nothing like a Castlevania game (kind of like how they called that one linear action game Final Fantasy 13).

Before it was just called "Lords of Shadow" and they didn't add the Castlevania name until later. I guess that's because they knew it would flop and they tried to get the Castlevania fanbase interested in it. I'm surprised people are still fooled and think this is a true Castlevania game and I'm even more surprised that they think Kojima Productions & Kojima himself have some large part of making this game when it's really being made by a developer who has made nothing but flops (with this one sure to follow). I'll be passing on this game and I'll wait for a REAL Castlevania game.

BiggCMan5222d ago

i remember seein the trailer back at E3 last year and wow!! this game looks incredible, and its being made by kojima productions! i already know its gonna be great.

nogolis5222d ago

2-D vania = I'm in...

3-D vania = I'm out... Way out.

Classic 2-D games lose their appeal and nostalgia and their entire core when going into 3-D, why don't people understand this? These aren't the same games. They are 3-d action games with classic iconic names slapped onto them. Nothing more.

Ron Zook5222d ago

that comment is wrong. going from 2d to 3d worked out great for mario, grand theft auto, metroid, zelda and others... stop being ignorant.

Jinxstar5222d ago (Edited 5222d ago )

Yeah I hated Super Mario 64, Metroid Prime, Ocarina of time, Ninja Gaiden, Final Fantasy 7, Prince of Persia and Metal Gear Solid... Crappy cookie cutter sell outs each and every one. Using a labvel to sell and nothing more... This is sarcasm for those who may not see that...

I can understand the logic your thinking with because most games that had a classic appeal that tried to make the jump really do suck. i.e. Bionic Commando is a recent one that comes to mind but I do feel thats much more on budget, creative team, art and concepts then on anything else. If you have a great team(Like Kojimas) and a huge budget(Like this game)there is a good chance it will turn out well...

Eamon5222d ago

Although I agree that the transformation from 2D to 3D of some old classics was a good thing, the developers should not abandon its 2D roots. Sonic, Mario and other platformers should continue to have new games made for them in 2D as well as 3D.

Zelda is a good example. Both the 2D and 3D games are awesome. Well, if you consider the cel-shaded DS games as 2D lol.

Hakimy5222d ago

While I don't totally agree about all 2D games being bad after they become 3D,But I agree that this was the case for castlevania.Since they shifted to 3D,all castlevania games have become a failure.lets hope this one will change the tide ;)

nogolis5222d ago (Edited 5222d ago )

Let's see here...

I've played the series of Super Mario Bros, Metroid, Zelda, Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden more than any other games in history... I have beat Super Mario Bro's in under 5 min flat. I can beat Zelda in under 5 hours flat. I've beat Ninja Gaiden without continuing 1 time. I can get to the Bloody Moth without even dying, man.

I ahve played them literally hundreds of times in my life... How many times do you think I've played Mario 64, Zelda OOT or Metroid Prime? How about them 3-d Castlevania's? I could get more than an hour or two into any of them. That says something. It says the originals are classics and the 3-d incarnations are different games with the same names.

And to think just because Kojima's team is doing a game its going to be good? Please... MGS4, in my opinion was ballz. Had 4 hours of gameplay and 10 hours of movie.

sarshelyam5221d ago

You can't get into the 3D iterations of some of your favorite series? Yeah, it says something alright noglis...it says that you have ADD!

That or you've simply never graduated, truly accepted the transition from beyond 8/16-bit 2D Graphics. There's simply no other way to explain it. You don't have to like 3D, that's your prerogative, but that's certainly NO indication the game doesn't live up to its predecessors. Wind Waker was and remains one of the truest 3D Zelda titles to the originals. That said, there are plenty of people who hated the "look"

Although being linear, which I wish it wasn't, the first game was absolutely incredible. A mix of old school God of War meets Date's Inferno; I was highly impressed by this title. I heard the sequel was trash so I ever played it but I think LoS was a good example of how a 3D CV game could be.

rgraf771307d ago (Edited 1307d ago )

I was very happy the game was Linear as I hate exploring. The first game was one of my all time favorites and the 2nd game was a total letdown with the lame hub system and stealth sections. Playing in current times sucked too. I wish they would make a remaster of part 1.

magdiellima1307d ago

Good as a game but terrible as a Castlevania. The sequence was even worse.

Terry_B1307d ago

It is a great game, but just like DMC is not a Devil May Cry..this one was not a Castlevania :-)

FreeckyCake1306d ago

Give Castlevania to Igarashi team, and they will nail it as they did with Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness.

Terrifyingly Bad: A Look Back At the 3D Castlevania Games

If you decide to play a Castlevania game, make sure it's in 2D. Unfortunately, the series has never been able to make the jump from 2D to 3D successfully. Publisher Konami has tried. Six times in fact, but whether trying to build it in-house or with a third party developer, they never captured the essence of the series or make a good game for that matter. So just to be sure you know what to look out for, here are the six 3D Castlevania games that have been made.

isarai1664d ago

I loved the hell out of lords of shadow, lords if shadow 2 had its moments but just didnt leave as much of an impact on me as the first did, still loved it though. They are both great games IMO, maybe not the best "Castlevania" games but great games in their own right.

RememberThe3571663d ago

Yeah that first game was legit good. Really wish they hadn't taken a step back for the second, this series really looked great in 3D.

AK911663d ago (Edited 1663d ago )

According to one of the former devs of Mercury Steam the higher ups kept interfering with the sequel to the point where the game was nothing like what the dev team had envisioned for the sequel so we got the mess that was Lords of Shadows 2.

PhoenixUp1664d ago

I enjoyed Lament of Innocence and Lords of Shadow. They were entertaining titles and I wouldn’t mind trying Lords of Shadow 2 on PS Now.

Just because a game isn’t GOTY worthy does not mean it’s not worth playing. You could do a lot worse than those exceptional titles.

Abcdefeg1663d ago

Curse of darkness was ahead of its time

Hedstrom1663d ago

I really liked lament of innocence and Lords of shadow! Havent tried the other 3d games. But ive played most of the 2d games!

gangsta_red1663d ago (Edited 1663d ago )

I don't know why Castlevania: Lament of Innocence gets a bad rap. It was one of the best in the series at that time and really was a compliment to the Devil May Cry 3rd person style of action that was getting popular at that time.

I rented it on a fluke and was seriously surprised on how good it was. So much so I went out and bought a used copy of Curse of Darkness and instantly returned that trash.

The problem with Nintendo 64 games is they all tried to mimic the Mario/Zelda 64 style of gameplay and how could they not with that whacky ass N64 controller. Almost every game outside of Nintendo's own felt horrible and incomplete.
