MW2 Has Become The 4th Best Selling Game Of All Time

December was an extremely good month for not only console manufacturers, but for publishers as well, and in the midst of Super Mario Bros. Wii being the best selling game in December, and Madden NFL 10 selling 1.5 million units across all platforms, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 made history.

We both know they won't because people wonyou have to ai't like the fact that you have to aim and it takes ore than 2 bullets to ill and sniping requires skills and that YOU HAVE TO WORK AS A TEAM and also they won't like the fact that you only get 10-20 kills in a very long game while in COD you can ge tthat each life.

Basically they won't like BC2 because it requires skill and not SMG spraying, LMG camping, Sniper no scoping and 3 bullet famas.

the only reason for that is killstreaks, love them pushes me to get kills., plus i like how they have a vareity of guns and like 8 or so addd ons for each gun, classes, and dual weapons; however even with all that uncharted 2 's single player blows cod 6 away, but as for multiplayer, uncharted falls under the same category as killzone 2 , amazing graphics for levels amzing physics, but then when u get to the guns its so mediocre, killzone 1 had secondary fire killzone 2 does not, uncharted 2 the same very mediocre weapons the platforming only makes the fun last so much before u get tired of the 8 weapons in total give or take. no killstreaks, the money level system is ridiculous, takes no life to actually get money plus to unlock a character it cost like a million dollars which takes forever. like jeez. uncharted 2 i a way better game and it deserves the sales mw 2 is getting just for its single player alone. plus i like that i can join my friends games even tho they started.i dont wanna ramble main thing is i wish aaa games like killzone 2 uncharted multiplayer did what mw 2 does but with better graphics and they would be godly games and less glitches of course. graphics are great and all but guns and killstreaks are why i play mw 2. if killzone 2 or uncharted 2 had secondary fires way more guns and better perk system and killstreaks i would be playing them right now. what i really wanted to say was mw 2 sold like over 14 million in like just over month and its the 4th best selling game what game sold more. i figured when all the hype smoke passes buy this game could be up to 20 million by next year. even tho it doesnt deserve best selling game hasnt it done that by now.

No. The ps2 version of San Andreas sold 17.33 million alone in order to make top 10 despite 21m with other platforms included. It's a one platform record for top best selling games. CODMW2 must sell 20m on 360 alone to be top 5 on official lists. Sounds crazy, but true.

A lot of the people who are complaining actually bought the game(because of COD4), played it, and formed an unfavorable opinion of it. Is this so hard to fathom?

As for me, I thought it was a good game but not nearly as impactful as COD4. I like COD4's single player better, the mp maps, and I felt the weapons were more balanced.

Did MW2 deserve its sales? Of course. But so did Wii Fit and Madden, they all did something that appealed to a wider audience.

This gen tend to hate on games that sell a lot for whatever reasons and praise others that are not as popular. Being popular doesn't mean a game cannot be "addictingly" good.

a Nintendo game, then no. We are talking about games that have gone beyond GTA San Andreas and are way beyond 20 million copies sold. Selling fast is nice, but CoD doesn't have the legs or the install base to be one of the highest selling games of all-time.

I love the COD franchise, people b!tch and complain but what other console shooter runs at such a high and stable framerate with as much going on on-screen and looks as good? Yes the campaign is short, sure there are a few problems with the MP, still doesn't change the fact that it's a fun game and quite addictive. The customization in MW2 is awesome, the campaign is very good but needs to be played about three times before the story is comprehendible. Overall, it's the best FPS franchise in my opinion. I can play at 12am, 4am, 8am there's always a game because the fanbase for the game is massive.(I hate waiting and wasting my time in a MP lobby looking for a game, this never happens with COD)

Modern Warfare might be #4 in raw sales, but it's close to #1 in being the most over rated game release to date as well IMHO.

There are so many issues surrounding the game, especially in terms of multiplayer that are turning away the hard core fan base in droves feeling abused and unloved for their support of the franchise.

Whilst graphically the game delivers well, it's the actual gameplay that drags this game down kicking and screaming.

For a start, the fact that using a plain KNIFE or Akimbo Shotguns is as effective as most other weapons, and even more so on the plethora of maps with nooks and crannies presents a massive gameplay flaw. This is MODERN combat, yet people are finding knives and shotguns to be as useful, is not more so in order to play the game. Then you have the grenade/203 spammers who take Danger Close and proceed to blind fire choke points for easy kills. I've seen even high level/prestige mode players do this regularly to rack up easy points.

The game rewards Lone Wolf style gameplay in excess over co-operative team effort. The kill steak rewards promote selfish activity and 'stealing' kills can become frustrating. You tag a bad guy and put him on the ground, someone finishes him off and you're taking home the assist - WTF?

There are NO SERVERS OUTSIDE THE US! If you're not in the USA, you're SOL on the lag front with gamers the world wide having to battle constant lag and server dropouts. The server side support on this game is appallingly BAD.

The achievements are ALL SOLO BASED! There's no 'reward' for solid tactical play - nothing of the kind. All the reward structure has been sunk into solo play, which translates in selfish multiplayer action.

We have trained modern day soldiers in the game and you cannot run more than 20 feet without running out of breath unless you take a Perk. ??

Kill Steak rewards (whilst fun) promote selfish gameplay and a strong solo emphasis. They should have only ever been an option for securing team based objectives and NEVER for the single player. It outright promotes the wrong style of gameplay.

This is just the START of the problems with MW2.

Yes, the game is very polished and the singler player campaign (whilst disjointed and very short) is a lot of fun. But the rest of the game feels very unfinished and the multiplayer doesn't stand up to stress testing on cheap tactical play.

In short, Modern Warfare 2 practically amounts to little more than Quake with modern guns and bullet penetration & kill steaks.

I am of the opinion the likes of Bad Company 2 coming out shortly will present a gameplay experience that will easily eclipse that of Modern Warfare and by the end of the year, Infinity Ward will be back at the drawing board to take lessons from BC2 and see where they went wrong themselves.

When Call of Duty came out it brought a singular new thing to the table, a super fast paced and intense single player. The multiplayer was simply Quake 3 with WWII guns.

However, the game was decidedly old school, even for its time. It came out during a period when linear campaigns and scripted sequences were frowned upon due to the games like BF1942 and GTAIII. But when it came down to it, Call of Duty was a success not for its innovations but for the sheer quality of the game. It's sequels remain the same, however for some reason when the second CoD2 came out on the 360 it became ludicrously popular. CoD4 shared many features found in Battlefield 2, a game that came out only a year after the original CoD, yet due to the fanbase began by CoD2 it became one of the best selling games of all time.

The analogy to Twilight is very apt. Nobody can deny that the games are entertaining, and they are well made which is more than can be said for the Twilight books. But there is no real depth to them, there's no room for emergent gameplay, there is no real strategic depth. The core mechanics of CoD require perfect aim, and a knack for spotting the enemy before he spots you and that is all. If you want a real fast paced multiplayer game go play Team Fortress 2.
