Irritating Installations: Xbox 360 vs. Playstation 3

From the PlanetXbox360.com feature editorial:

"Since even before the launch of the PS3, Sony fans were touting the system's incredible processing power as several orders of magnitude beyond that of the Xbox 360. So far we haven't seen much proof of that in terms of graphical performance, but much of that is due to the general downturn in exclusive titles- developing two separate versions of a game would be far less cost-effective. Having recently picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 to play with my fiancée on the PS3 (she finds the 360 controllers a bit too bulky) we popped in the disc, excited to once again run around as superheroes and pound various enemies into oblivion. Nothing was available until after it finished the lengthy installed."

"Sony fans were touting the system's incredible processing power as several orders of magnitude beyond that of the Xbox 360. So far we haven't seen much proof of that in terms of graphical performance"

Uncharted 2 says hi.

Please, fanboys (on both sides), stop emberrassing yourselfs with these kind of articles. this website is a total joke.

@ below, you're 100% right.

Bodyboarder_VGamer5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

This guys from the article is so wrong in so many things.

First he says that there are no graphical differences between the PS3 and X360 but what happened to Uncharted 2? The GOTY 2009 and all the Best Graphics awards?

Then he says that on top of mandatory installs you need to install mandatory updates which is a lie.

And why the guy keep saying: "if the PS3 has so much processing power why it can't play games without mandatory installs?". Well, that's not a problem with the CPU itself but with the developers. Killzone 2 doesn't has mandatory installs and the game's a graphical power-horse. The same with the crappy ports, etc.

"There may be a point where due to the massive amount of data crammed onto each Blu-Ray disc an installation will actually become completely necessary"

The guy's totally lost... FFXIII utilize like 40GB of a bluray-disc and it has no installs and virtually no loadings.

Then he ends the article with major BS: "Maybe this is one of the reasons why the Xbox 360 continues to dominate the Playstation 3 in worldwide sales", oh really? I thought that since the PS3 Slim came out Sony have been dominating the worldwide sales.... Mmmmm how strange how a fact changes so much from one person to the other.

deadreckoning6665216d ago

For some reason, mandatory installs don't bother me. If I encounter one, I'll just use that time to take a break. The first time I encountered a 15 minute loading screen in MGS4, I used that time ta take a dump

Sunny_D5216d ago

Damn, is it me or have Planetxbox 360 been on a roll with these flamebait articles recently?

"Sony fans were touting the system’s incredible processing power as several orders of magnitude beyond that of the Xbox 360. So far we haven’t seen much proof of that in terms of graphical performance."

Please show me a game on 360 that can rival games such as KZ2, U2:AT, MAG 256 players, Wipeout HD, GOW3, etc... So far no game I have seen that can even hold a candle to these games on the 360.

Darkeyes5216d ago

@Bodyboarder.... What the hell do you expect from a site named PLANETXBOX360.com to tell you????...
Outright lies in the article, games like KZ2 and UC2 themselves show that PS3 is capable of great graphics with no installations..

And yes even I LOLed reading the worldwide sales thing. What kind of people are becoming journalists these days.. I know you want to support the console in you sites name but outright denial of facts is astounding.. Best thing is to avoid such sites.

Nothing to see here people, just some more fuel to the fanboy fire.

ape0075216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

installs, mandatory installs

and other 2 points

1-game patches take time to download, some day I put waw and got like 200mg patch,do it or you'll not play online also in burnout paradise

2-ps3 loads things slower than xbox, getting into games in 360 seems faster especially when you do the amazing "optional install feature"

gta 4 loads so fast when it's optionally installed, much faster than on ps3

also ps home load times are ridiculous, why in the world would I wait for all this time to do game launching

also ps3 exclusives take so much time to load, motorstorm,kz2,mgs4 and uncharted 2

sony have to look in these things

WildArmed5216d ago

while i do hate long mandatory installs too on my ps3...
I dont know about the other two points.

I d/l 200mbs withing 30secs.. that is not the ps3's issue as much as your Internets (Try using LAN vs wireless if you aren't already)

I dont notice much difference in loading times.
Played Braid on both 360 n ps3.. no differences, same with CoD4, and numerous games. unless your talking about a second or two, then OMGOSH.. that is so slow >.>

PS home does take awhile to load, but not when I have the cache set to 16Gbs.. then it's pretty fast.. (but i put it back to 3gbs since i rarely pop in)

killzone 2 does have lengthy loading times, but not much for uncharted..
the loading during competitive matches has been put down to nearly 10-15 secs..
Unless your talking about SP, then complaining about a single load time during your gaming session is a bit too much to complain about.

End @ape007
-------

Halo 3 took a pretty dmn long time to load my 360..
and most installs now are barely 5-10 mins long, like infamous having a 1-2min install.

Sometimes people complain about the stupidest things.

Immortal Kaim5216d ago

I own both an Xbox and PS3, never been bothered by the instals...In fact I install all my 360 games to the HDD anyway?

btw I don't think KZ2 is that spectacular graphically? Perhaps it is because I played it after UC2, but going back to it now, it looks kind of dull to me?

Megaton5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

UltimaEnder is really shooting for the crown on this one. Some real turds come outta his site, but this... this is masterful.

jeseth5216d ago

I bought a 360 off a guy at work JUST to play Fable 2 (because I liked Fable so much) and after it freezing everytime I played I had to INSTALL IT TO THE HDD FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE.

LOL. 360 games also run better when you install it to the HDD.

The fanboys are really scratching and clawing these days. That install argument seemed legit to me as a PS3 owner until I got a 360 and Fable 2.

LMAO. Keep trying 360 fanboys at this biased 360 site.

mal_tez925216d ago

"So far we haven’t seen much proof of that in terms of graphical performance"

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

The 360 is still playing catch up to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a game from 2007. The closest thing is probably Mass Effect 2.
It still ages behing MGS4, Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2.

Remmulak5216d ago

hmmm great question lets ask people who own an Xbox without a hard drive.

ChozenWoan5216d ago

I'll go with uncompressed texture installation for the win Alex Trebek.

ape0075216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

why all these disagrees, just reply, tell me why

@skv007 bubbles for you man, that's what I call a great reply, my connection is pretty bad and I really hated halo 3 singl eplayer, it was soulless, you are right the load times in halo 3 sucks big time

@phantom disagrees,I really didn't like these things, I love my ps3 but these things just irritate me

oh OH wait WAIT....this is n4g, just a typical reaction xD

KillaManiac5216d ago

All I get from reading the summary on N4G is:

"Blah Blah....give our 360 fanboy website hits"

Its just online journalism...make the most absurd and random topics in order to generate hits which generates more money and publicity towards yourself.

SilentNegotiator5216d ago

Wait, are they serious? What about Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2?

"PlanetXbox360.com"
....ooooooohh!
PlanetXbox360 sure has had a lot of anti-PS3 FUD articles lately. How pathetic.

iamtehpwn5216d ago

I'd rather have them install data then have a game with massive load times. If the developer deems it needed to have a solid experience, then I see nothing wrong with it.

Granted, if they can pull off having NO mandatory install at all, and no large load screens like Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, or Final Fantasy XIII, that of course is Much better.

CWMR5216d ago

-Guys, give it a rest. All the fanboys saying MGS4 or Uncharted 1 still haven't been equaled on the 360 are full of it. Gears 2 surpassed both of those games. Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 might look a little better, but not by much. And why do you guys want to stop the discussion now? Why didn't we stop the discussion at Gears of War 1? You know, when the PS3 had nothing to compare.

Lot's of developers have said that the two consoles are very close in graphical capabilities. Sony claimed the PS3 was more powerful and Microsoft claimed the 360 was more powerful. As an owner of both consoles they look pretty close to me.-

SilentNegotiator5216d ago

We did.....in 2006. But not everyone is still living in the past.
Now the PS3 is FILLED with games unsurpassed by the 360.

Greywulf5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

Please do this, you can even PM me since you've ran out of bubbles. OR post in the open zone.

Gears2 is the unreal engine.
Gears2 doesn't stream load.

Uncharted has better character models, animation, lighting, textures, and shaders than Gears 1 & 2 and any unreal engine game on the market. Its because Naughty Dog wrote the engine themselves to utilize the PS3.

Killzone2 isn't "a bit" better than the Unreal engine, what "bit" is Gears2 close to Killzone2? Killzone2's post processing alone isn't even found in the unreal engined 360 games. Playing them its as clear as day. The 360 hasn't had any game to come close to Killzone2, or Uncharted1.

cant wait to see your response.

I want to see Images of the unreal engine Gears1 & 2 that are "close" to Killzone2/Uncharted1/Uncharted 2. Its close the same way a Honda civic is close to a Ferrari. They both have wheels right?

Uncharted 1 and Killzone 2 have no install and are better looking & performing than all Xbox 360 games. Facts are facts.

This article fails, its like sad propaganda from the defense minister of Iraq.

el zorro5216d ago

Just wanted to point out that you made a lot of claims greywulf without any evidence to back them up. Simply saying Uncharted 2 has better animation, textures, etc. does not prove anything.

starchild5216d ago

Of course he made a lot of claims without anything to back them up, that is what he does.

Put simply, if you can look at the following two videos and claim one is better than the other in any other way except if you prefer one graphical style over the other then you are simply lying.

http://www.youtube.com/watc...
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Watch both videos and really try to get a feel for what each of them is doing graphically. You might prefer the look of one over the other, but if you claim one is "vastly superior" or anything of the sort then you are simply deceiving yourself.

Immortal Kaim5216d ago

Good point, art style is a major factor in how a game 'looks graphically'.

why are installation a bad thing again ?

because it improves loading times ?
because having a hard drive allow for more freedom while making the games ?

this is weird , i have all my games installed on my 250gb and i still haven't hit the 50%usage space ..

Well install aren't a problem when you can upgrade your hard drive whenever you want i guess ....

Also fail article

Microsoft Xbox 3605216d ago

The best looking console game to date has zero installation. Oh wait this is PlanetXbox360.com. Totally unbiased.

starchild5216d ago

@lokiroo420

Oh you mean that blog written by a completely biased PS3 fanboy? Yeah, I've already seen it, too bad it isn't legitimate. He chose the absolute worse angles on the Gears of War 2 shots and the best looking angles for the Uncharted shots.

There is no need to look at a biased comparison based on a few selective screen shots, when we can look at full motion video. Better yet, some of us have actually played and beaten both of these games. The difference is minimal and is mostly down to different graphical approaches.

MiloGarret5216d ago

Take the article with a grain of salt. It's from "PLANET XBOX360"

It's about as relevant as an article on the superiority of either the DS3 or the xbox 360 controller coming from a playstation 3 centered site...

Relax, breathe, everything is going to be ok.

rockleex5216d ago (Edited 5216d ago )

You have never laid your hands on Uncharted so stop lying. Give me your PSN and let me see your Trophies.

How did he choose the best angles for Uncharted and worst angles for Gears 2 when the angles were almost exactly the same?

Zoomed in camera, up close to all the characters. How else could he have taken the shots? Was he supposed to move the camera out further just to make Gears 2 look less ugly?

Tell me what he did to make Gears 2 look inferior? Because it seemed like he was trying to make BOTH games look as bad as possible. But Uncharted just keeps impressing every single time.

In fact, he went through to compare ALL the graphical aspects. Lighting, fire, explosions, etc.

Time and time again, Gears 2 just couldn't keep up. In fact, Gears 2 had to fake a lot of those effects.

No one else on the internet have stepped up to the plate to challenge his comparison. I can see why they didn't.

Biased? Read this article and you'll see bias all over it. And most importantly, FUD.

Socrates5216d ago

@Greywulf

I won't bother with most of your post because most of it is pure opinion, but I will correct you on one thing. Gears of War does stream load. Read this article where Insomniac discusses why Resistance doesn't look as good as Gears of War and they explain that Gears of War had texture streaming and Resistance did not: http://palgn.com.au/xbox-36...

Like I said, I won't bother with the rest of that because there is no authority out there that can prove whether Uncharted or Gears of War has better animation, textures, and so on, so it would just be me throwing out my opinions like you did.

@rockleex

I just read through that comparison that lokiroo420 posted and to tell the truth I didn't agree with the author's conclusions. It just goes to show that two people can look at the same material and depending on how they analyze graphics can come to completely different conclusions. As to why no one else challenged this guy's comparison? It's an obscure blog for christ sake. Is everybody supposed to know about this guys obscure blog. Beside the point why should anybody care? That guy has his opinion just like everybody else. I see stuff I don't agree with all the time, but I don't go write an article trying to prove why my opinion is better.

TheFreak5216d ago

Fanboys will be fanboys I guess.

jaysquared5216d ago

Its funny how Sony fans don't mind 10-15 min installs but complain about multiple discs.. Seriously takes at the most 30 sec to get your fat butt up and change the discs!! Gotta love the hipocrosy of this place..

likedamaster5216d ago

@lokiroo

Yeah, that article just proved just how cartoony Uncharted is to Gears of war. No game is perfect, but just deny that Uncharted ripped everything off of Gears(like the coversystem, grenade throwing, weapon/ammo pickups, limited hud, shooting, etc.) and you would have made my day.

A Cupcake for Gabe5216d ago

Both Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 have no installing, and they are the top two best looking games on any console. Install was a PS3 thing with MGS4. Then 360 added it as a feature. Then it came mandatory for PS3, and optional on 360(Install on 360 is hit and miss). Now the PS3 doesn't need it. I assume that within the next year, installs will be a thing of the past. They do help out a lot. I install many of my 360 games too.

SaberEdge5216d ago

This article had some valid points. I know that it isn't allowed to criticize the PS3 in any way because it is perfection incarnate in the minds of many people around here, but its easy to see how mandatory installations could bother some people.

The biggest hypocrisy I see is that PS3 die hards are always making such a huge deal about multiple discs when the percentage of games requiring multiple discs is only around 3% of the total 360 library and it only takes a few seconds to switch a disc and it only has to be done every 10 hours, yet despite all this mandatory installs which take minutes to complete are good while multiple discs are bad.

I just get sick and tired of the hypocrisy. And it is a hypocrisy that is backed up with a "might makes right" attitude around here.

People mention how Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 are free of mandatory installations as if that completely dissolves the fact that many PS3 games, especially multi-platform games, do require mandatory installations.

It's great that those games are so ahead of the curve on the PS3 and that their developers were talented enough to allow them to be that way, but many developers are not going to be able to get the same results.

It is a fact that the Blu-ray drive in the PS3 reads data at a slower speed than the 360's DVD drive and not all developers are going to be able to work around that fact other than to go the route of having a mandatory installation.

thereapersson5216d ago

"Sony fans were touting the system’s incredible processing power as several orders of magnitude beyond that of the Xbox 360. So far we haven’t seen much proof of that in terms of graphical performance."

Whaddya know? A pro-360 site stating that? Get out! lol...

sack_boi5216d ago

Unlike Uncharted, Gears has splitscreen coop and supports up to five players at once.

heroprotagonist5215d ago

Good point, Sack Boi. A lot of times people want to compare these games when they aren't even an apples to apples comparison.

What I don't like about that blog comparison is that most of the comparison was based on character models using an unnaturally zoomed in camera. You are never going to be staring face to face with a Locust like that long enough to notice those fine of details. Or how about that shot looking up between Dom's legs? What was that about? Regardless, when I play Gears of War 2 the character models look highly detailed and really great in general.

Then he compares a few other random things like fire, but he doesn't even give examples of fire from Uncharted. He only shows some examples of grenade explosions (which several reviewers criticized by the way for looking kind of cheezy). Why didn't he give some examples of Uncharted's normal fire?

He said that he noticed some of the fire in Gears of War 2 was two dimensional, but doesn't he know that fire in every game is often a two dimensional effect made to look 3d? (well there is a way to handle it as a particle effect, but that isn't as common) The fire in Uncharted (at the plane wreckage part soon after you get to the island, for example) was the same way. If you got at the right angle you could see that it was comprised of 2 dimensional panes. It is the same way that foliage is handled in every game. So, the long and the short of it is that he criticized Gears of War 2 for something that is no different in Uncharted. It is no wonder he didn't give any examples of fire from Uncharted.

Having played both games myself I can tell by the shots he took and the things he focused on in the comparison that he had an agenda and was not interested in doing a fair comparison. There are so many other things he could have compared, but he chose to focus primarily on character models with a few other hand picked graphical features that would paint Uncharted in the most favorable light and Gears of War 2 in the most unfavorable light.

Microsoft Xbox 3605215d ago (Edited 5215d ago )

Splitscreen coop is irrelevant because you're still producing just as much pixels on screen at once as seen in single player mode. Face it, Gears of War 1 and 2 look primitive next to Uncharted.

ian725215d ago

Mandatory installs dont bother me really. I have had my blu-ray die on me and Installs shoud help with the life of them as the game is reading from the hard drive instead of the disc, thus not using the blu-ray as much. Plus its only a few minutes of time when disc is first used, its not as though you have to go through an install every time you play. Some people are so impatient nowadays.

Anon19745215d ago

No sh!t.

How did this get approved? This isn't even close to newsworthy.

gamer20105215d ago

"Face it, Gears of War 1 and 2 look primitive next to Uncharted."

Well clearly they don't, but go on living in your little fantasy world where everything on the PS3 is magically twice as good as it really is.

If Gears of War looks so primitive next to Uncharted then why did no reviewers say that Uncharted blew away Gears of War?

And what about the reviewers that said Gears of War 2 was the best looking game when it came out?

You are also wrong about split screen being an irrelevant factor affecting graphics or engine performance. You clearly do not know what you are talking about. There indeed is a performance hit when doing split-screen because you are essentially rendering a completely different image for each smaller screen. The calculations required for things like AI, physics and many other things increase dramatically when doing split screen. That is why it is common for the few games that do it to cut down on things like effects and draw distance.

That is apparently the reason why Guerrilla did not include split screen co-op in Killzone 2. In this article http://playstation.joystiq.... they say that one of Killzone 2's producers, Angie Smets, "...notes that split-screen co-op had to be axed due to the overwhelming graphical demands of the game."

Given that you know nothing about any of this it does not surprise me that you would be ignorant enough to say something like "Gears of War 1 and 2 look primitive next to Uncharted."

bjornbear5215d ago

N4G shouldn't allow people to self-publicize their crap =/

Sheikh Yerbouti5215d ago

in regards to time for me. I can do something to fill the time; I don't have ADHD or something.

What I find more bothersome is the size of some installs.

IcarusOne5215d ago

It's worth mentioning how much sh*t the sony cult gives a game like ME2 for being 2 discs while they sit there and allow the superior blu-ray format to interrupt their session of MGS4 with a 5-10 minute install after each act. I own both consoles, love both consoles, and wish everyone else followed suite. If they did, we'd see a lot less hypocrisy out here.

For the record, I'm not a huge fan of mandatory installs, and I really don't care how many discs a game comes on, so long as it's good. For me, the enjoyment of gaming is in the GAME, not the technical specs of the format it's printed on.

nveenio5215d ago

You get superior graphics from an install on the PC, and no one complains about that. With the PS3, superior graphics aren't even necessary (see: Uncharted 2). Not only are superior graphics not necessary, but LOADING SCREENS aren't necessary (again...see: Uncharted 2). I'm getting sick of seeing people blame developer CHOICES on PS3 hardware.

starchild5215d ago

inveni0, that is ridiculous. Of course the PS3 hardware has something to do with it. Developers are not adding mandatory installations simply for the fun of it. There are issues with the hardware that they are working around. It's not as if they are adding mandatory installations to make the PS3 versions better, either. In most cases they are using mandatory installations to help the PS3 versions merely equal the 360 versions.

Some of you imagine that because Naughty Dog did all these great things on the PS3 that every developer should be able to do it and if they didn't do it it's just because they didn't want to. That's not the way it works, though. Most developers don't have the time or the budgets to tinker around with the cell and work around all its quirks. They need to get results as fast and efficiently as possible. But it isn't some detached "choice". It is a choice they have to make given the realities of the hardware.

gintoki7775215d ago

hey.......snake just wants a cigarette break off the set =(

Rauland5215d ago

This article has bias and misinformed information written all over it.

Firstly, when a game needs a patch to play it on the PS3 and your promoted to download it, you can press O effectively signing out of the PSN and skipping the patch (like XBL).

Secondary, THE PROCESSOR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LOADING OF A GAME!?! It's the 'bluray' and the 'HDD' that is doing all the work. 360 has a faster DVD Drive, meaning? I think you can guess what it means.

Also Patches are encrypted, and the 'installing' is actually decrypting (a measure to protect it being hacked). Why do you think it patches/games take awhile to install (when downloaded off the PSN)?

Some games ARE being installed while you play (take FALLOUT 3 for an example). So him thinking that he has solved the "installation crisis" with this already in practice method... yeah right.

Stop purposely writing stupid flame bate articles for some hits on your website, loser. And get to know you PS3, not assume everything without even knowing.

[My comment has probably shaken to the bottom of the sea of useless, crappy comments, that only a few people will read, :/]

d--keller5215d ago

Mandatory installs are a super fail. Only the sorriest fanboy can think of a reason why waiting 15 minutes to play your new game doesn't suck.

PS3 rules but long installs and firmware updates bite.

mastiffchild5215d ago

Oh, crivens! This isn't half some shoddy old pap isn't it? What is going on with us gamers these days? We have a lot among us who would forgive the industry when it rips us off, fails to deliver games that work properly on release, do little QA, do too few betas, make us use lag infested P2P online instead of making our online gaming better and with more players-all this they'll say is fine. We should be happy they give us anything even though it's us playing the games and our hard earned that keeps the likes of Kotick in silky 100dollar bill lined kecks!

But, ohg, mandatory installs? Disaster! Having to chang a disc in a big jrpg? Murderous! Not being able to gabble on to mates unrelated to the game we're playing for, like, 5 minutes? Help us Lord! Anything that, like this, can be coloured by fanboy leanings(either way) are moaned about while the rest of the, more important, issues are swept aside while we spin the atrocious treatment we get as perfectly reasopmnable. A game ships like crap? They can patch it, why moan? Erm, because they don't always do it-there are loads of games released today, that cost a lot of our money and that expect us to pay it to do their QA testing and beta testing which is bad enough but then a lot of games never get fixed anyway! Oblivion-never fixed. NG2-camera never fixed even though they managed for the Sigma version!

Seriously, there's ton of things worth moaning about but an install that helps loads on the PS3 and 360 issn't one. If it's mandatory on the PS3 it's usually just because of the lower read speeds of BR players anyway and nothing to do with processing at all! Installing games(admittedly by choice) on my 360 has been a great thing too and if it helps on the PS3(and I think it's often a way devs can cut their costs)i'm OK with it being done and the ONLY reason I think we don't see them on the 360 is because they don't all have an HDD. PC gamers are used to it anyway-who cares that much about this rubbish?

Can we not move onto subjects where there's gonna be no accusations of bias and that affect us ALL as gamers and that, should we grow up as a community and stop bending over for the industry and spinning their rubbish for them, could change what we currently get conned over. I cannot believe some of the daft arguments perpetuated by articles like this-make a brew, take a leak but don't start crying because a developer thought an install was the best way for their game to play as well as it could on any given system. worry more about why we don't have as many dedicated servers on Live or PSN as we should do and why that allowed Acti to get IW to rip off PC gamers by taking their away too and hiking their price! Can someone tell me again just why it was better to argue amongst ourselves than demand a market leading game to have something approaching market leading features and online performance or even asking why we should buy a game that won't work online because they felt betas should be something we PAY to do for them? Cos I have no idea.

Arnon5215d ago

Out of all the games to use, I don't see why it's Gears of War 2. Hell, I'd put Fable 2 and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts over Gears of War 2 in a graphical comparison.

the difference is some PS3 games require a mandatory install, whereas the Xbox games all require a 6-7gb+ install. That is unless your not worried of your Xbox dieing on you and you can tolerate the jet engine.

It is what it is, the devs have to do what it takes to make the game run and with the xbox you have to do what you gotta do to have a more enjoyable atmosphere. Does it suck? yes it does suck but it's only for the next ten minutes of my life, ten minutes I could've called a buddy, grabbed some food, throw the laundry in the dryer.blah,blah,blah.

"Maybe this is one of the reasons why the Xbox 360 continues to dominate the Playstation 3 in worldwide sales"

Really article? PS3 keeps a solid lead and is building in both the EU and especially Japan. And in the US, the PS3 outsold the 360 in 2009.... I'm so confused where he's getting his facts...

Regardless of what some of you think the PS3 should have sold in this region or that, the fact remains that the 360 still has the same lead over the PS3 as it did when the PS3 launched onto the market. 360 has over 39 million sold and PS3 is somewhere around 33 million. This means that the 360 has sold equally well or better than the PS3 since the later console came on the market. This is directly opposite of what some PS3 fans are claiming.

Furthermore, how in the world are you trying to say the PS3 outsold the 360 in the US when the NPD numbers show the exact opposite? The 360 outsold the PS3 in North America in 2009.

Dev8 ing5215d ago

I thought it has been established that the 39 million was a lie based on the 360 selling 10 million in the US.

DigitalAnalog5216d ago

Article fail.

Give me a game that installed that long on the PS3!!

-End statement

Dutch Boogie5216d ago

Well Devil May Cry 4 required a 15min install but that was due to capcoms incompetence.

jerethdagryphon5216d ago

afrika has a long instal long loads and long saves but its unique and enoyable i tihnk install was like 6 minites

sGIBMBR5215d ago

Really, Capcom's incompetence?

DMC4 didn't require a mandatory install on the 360?!

Fanboys p**s me off!

GarandShooter5215d ago

@sGIBMBR

How could there be a mandatory install on the 360 when HDD's aren't mandatory?

Are you pissing yourself off?

sGIBMBR5215d ago (Edited 5215d ago )

How would i be p**sing my self off? please elaborate.

What pisses me off are these fanboys, blaming all these developers for being lazy all the time because the ps3 version isn't upto scratch or requires an installation.

Maybe the ps3 is just really that hard to develop for, why should 1 system receive special privileges and have more time spent on it than the other? Is it their fault that the ps3's architecture is difficult to work with?

please stop being so ignorant and sthu already!

If you owned a PS3 you'd know this is FUD.

Neither of the most graphically advanced console games this gen, Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2, require an install.

Install time is, maximum, 15-20 minutes and, I think, only Devil May Cry topped out at that high end. MGS4, while it had numerous installs, wasn't using them for loading levels, it was massive amounts of texture data that they had to load on the Octocamo on the fly.

I believe the "patch" on PS3 is known as "title update" on 360, it's not mandatory on either, but you can't play online with either.

Anyone who doesn't buy a PS3 (now with 120GB HDD as standard) due to installs is an idiot.

WildArmed5216d ago

But wait!
According to THEM
'Sony fans were touting the system's incredible processing power as several orders of magnitude beyond that of the Xbox 360. So far we haven't seen much proof of that in terms of graphical performance'

RIIIIGHHTT...

exnihilonihilfit5216d ago

Is that he doesn't even pretend to understand the many technical reasons why one might have to do an install on the PS3 and not the 360. The installs have nothing to do with the power of the cell processor per se.

There are two basic reasons why an install would be necessary. As Thom notes, load times from the harddrive are much faster than from the disk drive. This is especially true in the case of bluray which has a slower load time than DVD (only because it possesses so much more data). Further, the reason why multiplats have such large installs is because they basically have to load an emulator on the PS3 so that it can run the code as though it were an Xbox/PC as opposed to simply running code that was specifically designed for the Cell. If anything, the PS3 is so much more powerful than the Xbox that it can run the same game as the Xbox and an Xbox emulator on top of it. Indeed, it is because of the cell that such installs become necessary, but it is not because of the cell's processing power, rather, it is because programmers have not taken the extra time to reprogram key aspects of the game to run on the cell specifically. Exclusives, that are designed to run on the cell from start to finish, only need to perform installs if they want to load large textures really quickly (which is something they'll certainly take advantage of more and more as time goes by to increase image fidelity).

SilverSlug5216d ago

Again, Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 have no install and are better looking than all Xbox 360 games so far.

Nice try.

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro51d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7251d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_51d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Cacabunga51d ago

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2351d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200051d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin51d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole51d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix51d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198951d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor51d ago (Edited 51d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Michiel198951d ago

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972128d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus128d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda127d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B126d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic127d ago (Edited 127d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981126d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot126d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda126d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot126d ago

Not just mine mate

A large majority

So….

Traecy126d ago

N4G commenters such as yourself aren't the majority. The game was well received.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay126d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12128d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay126d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB127d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
