Official: Exclusive GTA IV Content for 360 not PS3 confirms Take-Two

A Take-Two spokesperson has confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that the episodic content planned for Grand Theft Auto IV will be exclusively released for the Xbox 360.

Talk of an exclusive deal began following the release of Take-Two's Q2 financial report on Tuesday. The report stated that the episodic content would be released on 360 during the 2008 fiscal year - with no mention of PlayStation 3.

Now a company representative has told GI.biz, "The Grand Theft Auto IV episodic content is exclusive to Xbox 360."

Wow, Exclusive content ONLY for 360 AND La noire. Great time to be a 360 gamer. If rockstar could add some form of online multiplayer on Live, that would be the icing on the cake.

I have been a loyal GTA fan ever since GTA3, I bought Vice City and San Andreas on the first day they came out. I own LCS and VCS for my PSP.

Also... Money talks and BS walks... Microsoft made a huge errort when they were pitched GTA III and they passed on it because they wanted to keep a cleaner image for the xbox. microsoft did pass on GTA:3 which only proves they don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to gaming. Sony took a chance on it, turned into a beast of a title on their platform and now the little microsuck whores come throwing money at it so they can push their designed in a hurry, abysmal quality controlled, console that not only red rings on people but scratches discs in many instances.

what most people don't realize is that Take-two is bleeding money like a stuck pig. Layoffs everywhere, last management structure got thrown out on its ass. Which now smells of them going to Sony asking for HUGE subsidies,Sony telling em that the consoles launch timeframe would not give them enough of a user base to bail out take two thus told em to go ahead and take Microsoft's money.

If none of that happened I doubt you would be seeing any form of GTA:4 on the scratchbox until the end of 2008.

They said so at E3 last year and they've said it repeatedly since. MS is paying for the development of the exclusive content to keep it off other platforms.

The main thing stopping them from using multiple discs is the nature of the genre. Since the games are fairly nonlinear there's no logical cutoff point to switch discs. Nobody wants to switch out discs every time they go to the other side of the city.

Hell Yeah! Besides Shivering Isles for Oblivion and the sweet, sweet new game modes for PGR3, I'd offer the incredibly diverse and well thought out extra content for Crackdown. It was so good it was playing an entirely new game.

I have to say, Xbox Live's downloadable content whether for Gears of War or Kameo, has given added replay value to games such as never before.

I'll be playing GTAIV long after PS3 owners have tired of the game and moved on. I truly hope, for PS3 owners, that Sony's PSN someday offers the wealth of quality game content, a.k.a. "real good stuff," that Xbox 360, LIVE members enjoy on a daily basis.

Anyway, some people have spoken, and I will too. I'm also getting sick of developers wanting Microsoft to win. Either they get extra royalties, and/or a massive payment, and/or like the "easy development" as opposed to cutting edge technology. Well, I have both, but for every developer screwing the PS3 fanbase by giving the 360 fanbase something extra, especially on a traditional Sony developer or Sony franchise, I decided to not buy any of those games until both platforms have either the same content, or the same game. There are plenty of first and second party exclusives to keep me busy on both consoles. I might be getting Devil May Cry, since after all, it is coming to PS3 and 360 (But heavenly sword will come first, since I've already played DMC and DMC3, so I can wait for 4, being a very similar game after all). But the reasons I haven't bought Lost Planet and Dead Rising is because Capcom has said they want the largest amount of audience for their products; and so, I'm waiting for them to do that. I'll also wait for downloadable content on the PS3 GTA4 (and after all, I know it was easy to fit the game on Blu-ray, so I don't want any "trade-offs" anyway by getting the 360 version). If Katamari becomes exclusive to 360, even when being a former Sony franchise, I'll simply not buy it until it gets ported. After all, I've enjoyed the first one, the second one and the PSP one, so why should I get the next one for 360, especially when it's hardly a new game? Same thing goes for Ace Combat. So developers, it's your choice to cripple PS3 versions of the games. Why bother to make them then?

I'll probably get it on the ps3, depending on what the content is. I do think Rockstar will take advantage of Blu-Ray and Harddrive giving the ps3 faster load times. The 360 will get its exclusie episodic content but I think the ps3 will have it's extra features. It really boils down to what the content is, if it's maybe online mode then I would have to jump to the 360 but if it's like extra cut scenes a few costumes then I won't care so much about that. I don't think this content is something that would make you say wow I have to get the 360 version, Rockstar even said that GTA 4 will sell ps3s so I think the content is not going to make people who want it for ps3 change thier minds and get it for the 360.

You need to think a minute about the phrase "episodic content." This means additional story content, missions, possibly new maps, certainly new characters and any other possibilities that the phrase "episodic content" implies.

The 360 version WILL be the version to own.

Looking at the term episodic, I highly doubt it would imply new maps. The area seems large enough already. Episodic seems to imply new missions (story content, like you said), since episodic means loosely connected episodes.

Downloadable content doesn't really matter. San Andreas was pretty good, but it wasn't the story I played for, it was the side stuff that entertained the most.

I would not really want to clutter up my hard-drive with episodes anyway, because you are likely gonna have to keep them installed.

I can imagine that PS3 will have some sort of extra content on the Disk anyway.

As for LA Noire, it doesn't matter if it goes multi format, it only matters if it gets canceled.

Well if you buy a core system you know that it is limited as far as XBL is concerned, and that's why its cheaper, because it appeals to those who just want to play a few next gen games, -they don't care much about online gaming and DLC. I work with a guy who brought a Core system at launch....I always joke with him about buying a Core system and I tell him he's missing out on all the great online stuff, but he points out to me that he probably plays Call of Duty 2 and Madden maybe 2-3 hrs a month and he's not at all interested in playing online, the only reason he purchased a 360 in the first place was to "check out" Madden in HD. Now I know he may not be the norm Core owner but in general I think thats a significant percentage who it sells to. The other larger percentage of Core owners are obviously those that will buy the HD seperate, when the time is right for them...if they are huge GTA fans then this just might be that time.

There is a looonnnggg tradition in this industry of following up successful games with added content. In the old days, you had to go to a store and buy floppies or CDs to get the extensions (Think of Tribunal and Bloodmoon for Morrowind) that are now available via download (think Shivering Isles for Oblivion) so you get them quicker and more conveniently and you don't have to insert multiple key disks to play. *They* get more sales because there is no used disk to pass along.
If you don't like DLC, well, it *is* optional.
But if you really like a game, why wouldn't you like the chance to play more of it?
If you don't like DLs, you may be in trouble; you do know Sony has talked about delivering entire games *solely* via D/Ls, right? That they expect the *next* gen games will *only* be delivered via the network, right?

Ms gave Rockstar incentives to bring the exclusive content to the 360. For at least the short term, the 360 has a vastly larger install base.

Rockstar clearly did the math, finding that:

MS Incentives+Larger (prospective at the time) Install base = Greater Money than cross-platform DLC

Sony could have, of course, upped the incentive offer, but the smaller install base would have made the requirement of outlay from Sony be substantially larger.

Think for a moment about all the times you've read a developer's post-game release interview. What is the single most common complaint?

Think about it and be honest.

The single greatest---and most common complaint expressed by developers AFTER a game is released is that they wish they had more time to INCORPORATE IDEAS that came to them as their game's development cycle came to a close.

That's right. It's about having the OPPORTUNITY to release content, whether vehicles, weapons and yes---even clothes, as well as new maps and gameplay modes POST-GAME RELEASE!

Take BIZARRE and PGR3 for example. Months after the release of PGR3 (one of the 360's EXCELLENT launch titles) BIZARRE released additional car packs.

Some were free, others were not. I can say I certainly appreciated the FREE Cadillac downloads. In any case, all were fun to drive.

Not long after that however came the real sweet stuff---NEW GAME MODES! I can tell you, playing Cat n' Mouse--formalized into an actual new game mode---was, and is, to this day a riot!

Other game modes included open maps where for the first time in the PGR series players could drive anywhere they chose. Aside from the formal gameplay now players could play wild variations of their own special demo derby. It was crazy. It was frantic. It was fun.

You see, the point is that now, through the wonders of DIGITAL DOWNLOADS, developers can seamlessly incorporate ideas that came either far too late in a game's development cycle, or months after its release.

Exactly to the point; what ships on DVD is the finished game as originally planned.
A lot of what ships *after* that, as DLC is an extension of the gaming experience.
Only, instead of having to wait for a new version of the game (at full cost) you get to add on for a fraction.
Best example of this is Oblivion which (horse armor aside) kept adding value for $2-3 a pop for six months after release. And then added *two* major expansions, giving the game added appeal even a year after release.
They win and we win.

?? truthfully, not that GTA4 is one of my fav games, but it is to most people. and if there is extra episodes, expansions, weapons, missions, WHATEVER coming out on one system and not the other, its a no brainer.

my fav game is gears of war, as is alot of other people. and although i will wait patiently for gears 2, in the meantime any new downloadable content, no matter what it is, would be something I would be very much interested in.

can everyone agree GTA was the system seller for PS2, its the #1 franchise in gaming around the world. ok next.
just imagine 6 months after release, 360 get the EXCLUSIVE episodic content while ALL, and I mean EVERY one of these die hard loyal freakin sony fan boys mouth water when they hear about it or see it on websites and magazines. What a way for sony to diss their loyal customers. The let their customers lose out of extra GTA4 contents, while 360 fanboys will be laughing at them.

Calm down PS3 and Xbox 360 Fans, this isn't world war 3, it's a video game. If the xbox 360 gets some exclusive content, then be okay with it. However, Sony has embraced Rockstar games in the past, so don't think the PS3 version is going to be crap. Besides, the majority of the game is exclusive to no one; It's a joint release. Don't sweat the small stuff, i.e. get over it.

Since you seem to know the dictionary, the second stage you so eloquently listed would actually be called acceptance. Even if other people are acting like children, doesn't mean you have to join them by adding fuel to the fire. This goes for other people as well.

i agree with everything except one completely irrelevant, yet fundamental principle... acceptance is not the second stage. Acceptance is the 5th psychosocial phase of the stages of grievance, beginning with denial. It is a completely adaptive defense mechanism and the entire process averages around 1 year for life altering events. Therefore, if a doctor ever offers you anti-depressants as treatment for this natural process... please, slap him for me.

but i have got to disagree, this is a hot topic, and its not small stuff. fact is, gta has always been not only a system seller, but the BEST selling games on ps2. for example, just imagine halo, not only coming to PS3 but then the xbox fans find out PS3 is getting exclusive content.

I hate seeing people's days ruined by this as they turn into immature 10 year olds. For one, people shouldn't let something like this get them down, and two, PS3 is still getting a great game. If you try to stay unbiased then things like this won't upset you. They don't upset me and i own a ps3.
