Such a shame that studios seem not want to harbor the power of modding like they used to.. luckly Value still do eh!

There will be dedicated servers. What do you think the PS3 beta was running on? Its just that the Public Server Files (PC version) won't be distributed.

And also, the lack of mod support was announced over half a year ago. http://planetbattlefield.ga...
"No mod support since there are no tools for the Frostbite engine"

Yep, title is totally misleading. Mentions absolutely nothing about a lack of dedicated servers. Me thinks the OP merely stated that for the hits(and it's working, unfortunately).

same as bf2, lame title seeking hits

DDclarke5220d ago

How is it the same as BF2? I can download the dedicated server software right now for BF2, I can't however for BFBC. BF2 has custom maps, BFBC won't... ( http://www.fileshack.com/fi...

So if there will be no mods, what will make the PC version superior to the console versions? Controls?

darkmurder5220d ago (Edited 5220d ago )

I meant in regards to renting servers, but having said that I'm not sure what EA's strategy with this game is. With Battlefield 3 rumoured to be coming out at the end of this year I feel they're going to split the community in half.

EDIT**
@Kigmal:
1) Superior aiming
2) Superior graphics
3) More players in the games
4) Community that will actually continue supporting the game (ie playing it 4 years down the track)

I am replying "from memory"...I believe this is just for the pc beta and not for the final retail version. Apparently yes, there are no mod tools but there will be dedicated servers.

Either way, pc quality aside, I believe the main argument FOR pc is mod tools and dedicated servers. Mod tools could be released later, hopefully, and dedicated servers are a must for many. DICE has already stated that dedicated servers will be available for BFBC2, even though you will have to rent the server -- you still have complete control over it.

Note to DICE: mod tools are, IMO, more important than dedicated servers. Custom maps make the difference, they make longevity a reality. Even if the tools come out after the game is released, at least say so.

Also, I played and *truly* enjoyed the PS3 beta. As much as I enjoy crisp graphics, gameplay and functionality trump them. I already pre-ordered the PS3 version...once mod tools for pc are in place, I will buy the pc version; otherwise, I'll just enjoy the game on the PS3 only.

evrfighter5220d ago

I don't even remember the last time I hosted a dedicated server

I've always rented my servers and if it's anything like bf2 there won't be a shortage of who to rent from so prices will always be low.

The title should really be changed. This is very very very misleading

Theonik5220d ago (Edited 5220d ago )

1. More players
2. Clan system
3. DX11
4. Better controls (and the ability to go prone)
5. A more dedicated community
6. Lower price (and if compared to the 360 cheaper online)
Edit: @kikicub
I think they did it cause the didn't want to release the frostbite modtools, at any rate dedicated servers are just as important as modtools as they improve the actual gameplay experience while modtools add more variety.

I will wait for more confirmation, but this doesn't sound good at all.

I am dissapointed slightly with DICE(and EA), I really wanted SOMEONE, ANYONE to stand up to InfinityWard and say

'Hey look, dedicated servers and mod tools and console commands... oh and BTW IW we outsold you :p'

Now that's an article I'd approve.

I have corrected it, and I FULLY AGREE It may not have been DICE's choice and I can't really be angry at DICE they had an original IP of Mirrors Edge and they are helping with MoH getting back on form after the mediocore airbourne.

Wayward5220d ago

I doubt it's Dice that decided this. The stupid thing is as you point out - they could of got one over on IW, enough to make some of the people angry with IW buy the game..

DDclarke5220d ago

It might just be they could not be bothered with the extra effort that is required with releasing server software etc - I doubt they care much about the PC market much any more.

Sm0k3y_Bac0n5220d ago

Like the guy who posted 3.0, i also thought they said they were keeping deicated servers. Doesnt bother me whether they do because im on consoles, but im quite sure theyre not going to remove mod tools etc.

inSaneELF5220d ago

What? EA confirmed BFBC2 will have dedicated servers. They STRESSED it when MW2 released. Where's the source for this article?

Wayward5220d ago

Sorry missed out the link to the BFBC blog, but added. It's stright from the horses mouth!

M337ING5220d ago

There are Dedicated Servers, they just can't be hosted by private users and have to be bought through "official" hosts.

Wayward5220d ago

Not really dedicated servers as I see it then, more.. allowing people to pay for the servers so EA saves money, while not letting them do anything with them (mods etc)

nutcrackr5220d ago

BF2, BF2142 have all had private dedicated servers. They are still dedicated and have all the advantages that go along with that.

PC gaming is taking a turn for the worse. Looks like we be seeing a lot more decisions like this in other games.

Wayward5220d ago

To be fair the studios which make PC games not console ports to PC seem to still be doing it the old (and IMO the better) way. Hopfully studios like Value and Stardock will continue!

tdrules5220d ago

stop pretending you know what the hel lyou are even talking about.
if you even knew about gaming further than a joypad, youd realise all BF games on PC have been this way, privately hosted dedicated servers.
no your facts and GTFO

Trizelda5220d ago

They will not release the dedicated server SOFTWARE ,but at least they will let you config the dedicated servers you (now have to) rent out.

QUOTE:

Mod Tools: There will not be mod tools for BFBC2. However a majority of the the games logic is controlled by the server and there will be Serverside control options for the dedicated servers.
