That's the problem with Modern Warfare 2. I enjoy playing it, but a game of the year should be more than just a great multiplayer experience. The campaign has good moments and spec-ops is great but overall, I don't see it "Breaking the Mold" or showing us something that hasn't been done before.

U2 was amazing and had a better campaign, however Mw2's multiplayer is great, I've already had 7 and a half days spent in its multiplayer. For me that combined with a good single player and a fun specs mode is GOTY.

Now of course this is opinion, if you don't like MW2's multiplayer, or are a PC player Mw 2 is definately not GOTY for you.

Uncharted 2 has won game of the year from like 16 other sites and one picks modern warfare 2 and they are bias? Come on. Maybe they just thought that Mw2 was a better package? Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I enjoy MW2 greatly and it will be a game I play for years. The single player was fast paced and exciting, the spec-ops missions were unique and adrenaline pumping, and the multiplayer is addicting and rewarding. That all adds up to one heck of a game.

This is not only about UC2 not being GOTY, Is about objectivity, a site that is objective must give the GOTY award to the Game that it deserve to be, not the Most Over-Hyped game or best seller

If UC2 is not GOTY, is OK, but there is a lot of good games this year, to just pick MW2, Batman AA for example

What is bullcrap is that Uncharted 2 won GOTY and GT didn't pick Killzone 2 "to be fair". GT themselves stated in this very clip that games should push the enevlope... Name ONE thing that MW2 does that's innovative? I can name several things Killzone 2 did that broke boundaries:

- First Person Cover
- Sixasis-enabled sniper rifle
- Broke Graphical boundaries for a First Person Shooter (probably the first game to exceed it's CG trailer graphically)
- Hit Recognition system
- 3D bullet holes that cast shadows
- Adaptable AI
- quick-action knife draw (you don't have to start pushing the button before you strike, which gives you a tactical edge for drawing it over shooting or using the butt of your gun)
- and even in-game the characters actually changes facial expressions if you want to get technical

If you want to go on the multiplayer side, it's the first multiplayer game that's non-objective that combines game types; not to mention the first multiplayer that doesn't degrade immensely from the single player when so much was applied graphically.

Geoff Keighley has lost all my respect. Not just for this but for the insane amount of hype he was hinting at before the Spike VGA's and all the announcement being absolutely underwhelming. First off GT knows nothing about the complexity or history dealing with video games. they just play game trailers and have an open hand to recieve money from any developer paying.

Second: to say Game of the Year needs to push the envelope, break the mold, or be very well polished, then say Modern Warfare 2 is game of the year. Hell Space Invaders on the Iphone could have won Game of the Year over MW2

Modern Warfare 2 is DLC from Modern Warfare.

uncharted 2- best story/campaign, best graphics, best TPS, best adventure game.....but your not best ps3 game or game of the year.

uncharted 2 revolutionized gaming by its game/cinimatic gameplay, and MW2 is MW1 with new maps, new guns, new custom killstreaks.

think about it. when you try to think about all of the OMG moments in both the games.....

uncharted- train scene, mountains, convoy scene, tank scene, the entire last 2 chapters, the museum......then online

MW2- the ending........uhhhhh thats it. its like they thought that if they ad a dramatic ending it would make people think that the campaign story is good.

The only award Modern Warfare 2 should win is biggest dissapointment. The campaign is way too short. The story is horrible. And the multiplayer is a camping noobfest. All the maps suck and are made to encourage camping. Uncharted 2 is a superior game in every way.

It's going to be tight race for GOTY between Halo: Reach and COD7: Vietnam (Name to be announced but rumored to take place in Vietnam) with Halo winning the GOTY because I believe it's going to be played the most next year. I'm Nostradamus. :D

Unlike a lot of people I enjoyed MW2's single player. It was pretty intense. Multiplayer has held me a lot longer than most games also.

Now I've been playing UC2 and it is an amazing game but if someone else had more fun and stayed with MW2 longer then I can see it being their GOTY.

Uncharted 2 has an amazing campaign and awesome co-op, with solid mutliplayer.

MW2's campaign is exciting, yet confusing and the pacing is off. It doesnt really feel like a war game but the set pieces are still amazing at times.
However IW absolutely nailed multiplayer and co-op. I have no doubt in my mind that the multiplayer and co-op is the best this year, its not that the other games arent good, its just that MW2 is THAT good. And if multiplayer and co-op is what GT thinks makes a GOTY, then thats their opinion I guess.

For me, U2 is the most memorable game. And while I continue to play MW2 online, I wont forget the awe-inspiring campaign and really good times of co-op in Uncharted 2. Its the most cinematic game Ive played on a console, a mix of Half Life story telling and amazing cut scenes a la MGS and FF. It was the game that pushed the interactive medium for me.

So yeah IMO: U2>MW2

I played many exciting games this year and while MW2 was fun, in my opinion shouldn't be GOTY or 'best of' for any platform. It didn't really feel like to me a huge improvement over MW, unlike other sequels that released this year that improved tenfold ie. Assassin's Creed 2, Uncharted 2. And not to mention the most surprising new IP's this year that turned out to be excellent.

You know I don't think CoD6 is that big of a leap over CoD4. It is deeper with what they give you but the online gameplay is catered for campers. Compared to CoD4 where you could run and gun or camp because that's how the maps and terrain were. In CoD6 it's a lot of cover spots and quite a few good camping spots where it makes you had to kill/reach if you're properly equipped or a decent shot. I don't mind campers myself but the ability to rush or camp depending on your personal style of play missing from CoD6 is a bit of a letdown. Along with the SMG's being underpowered.

I played MW2 and I enjoyed it... Specially its short single player.

Multiplayer was fun at first, but boring later for me and the overall package was nice.

However from an overall quality standpoint, MW2 is far from a game to be considered GOTY when you take into account the conditions and stardards to which they are judging games for the award.

I'm one of the few who clearly knows the game is COD4 with a coat of paint over it, but still enjoyed the game regardless. I'm also smart and unbiased enough to understand that MW2 simply is NOT GOTY caliber... Not even close.

Opinions are opinions, but there's not much difficulty in noticing that sometimes an opinion can be retarded.

It seems that MW2 doesn't meet the main criteria that they set for GOTY: "breaking the mold". What mold do they mean? First day sales? Looks like this was a popularity contest from the beginning. Good game, just not GOTY material IMO.

So from what I get hear, Counterstrike > all? People are stilling playing Counterstrike I guess that makes it the best game EVER... right Gametrailers? Since when does RE-HASHED and upgraded Multiplayer make the difference, granted it is far better than Uncharted 2's the first Uncharted didn't even have multiplayer. They inadvertently have shown what "gamers" have been saying for awhile now, that there is serious biased journalism going on against the ps3!

Ps3 fans have been calling this type of "journalism" out for YEARS now, and have been met with snide remarks about their own biased interpretation about the reporting!

The gt website comments on this article speaks VOLUMES! Comment after comment from 360 only owners that are totally shocked at the blatant biased pick for "PS3" game of the year!

I predict that in the future, gamers that have been riding the fence concerning getting a ps3 because of inadvertently falling for the articles that dismiss the ps3 as over-hyped will now see things a little clearer!

sony should amp up production to unprecedented levels in preparation for the onslaught of buyers that want a console that is delivering a consistent and all-around(hardcore and casual) gaming experience!

but if it came down to my top 3 contenders for game of the year, it would be a mexican showdown between Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls and Batman: Arkham Asylum - but if I had to choose one, it'd definitely be Demon Souls - unlike all the games on that list, it is probably the only game I'll still be playing come the middle of this year. To this day, it is the only game I know that has come close to mimicking the glory of Shadow of the Colossus in terms of scale and awesomeness.

I knew it was going to be GT because of MW2's score over Uncharted 2. 9.5 vs 9.3. But still, I totally love how Uncharted 2 won all of these other awards, and MW2 scores better than it. Ridiculous if you ask me.

infinity ward made a very fun game that satisfied the demand of MANY gamers. it may not have been the most polished game or the best looking game or the game with the best story or the game with the best multiplayer(my opinion is that uc2 has best multiplayer), but i dont think the game should get bashed this much. it was honestly a really fun game. competitive multiplayer got old for me quick tho but the stuff required for da platinum trophy was very fun.

now that i have that cleared, i feel other games were more deserving of this award than mw2 but thats just my opinion. we all have different ways of rationalizing how we choose our own personal goty (mine between demons souls n uc2) so GT's goty choice is nothing to be over upset about. am i disappointed in their choice? yes. do i think they r biased? yes. should i get mad? ovcourse not! theres plenty of other journalist out there that r much better! so lets try not to get so caught up with this biased group of journalists n move on. we kno who we can call reliable n who we can not. its dat simple.

i have mw2 on ps3. I haven't even touched the single player becaus ei know how much it sucks. I only play online and a multiplayer game CANT WIN GOTY! mw2 is worthless without online and not every single person who has mw2 has online. Uncharted 2 on the other hand has an amazing single player and multiplayer, even if the multiplayer itself falls short of mw2's multiplayer, the single player more than makes up for it. And ND has been supporting the multiplayer with a free new maps, improvements, and events every holiday, what has IW done besides fix the stupid glitches they were responsible for?

Why not give the award to Wii Sports since I am sure it has more plays per year than MW2 overall. Oh, I forgot, WiiSports has no online... nevermind. We can all agree that there has never been a more glitch-free perfect online experience in MW2 that was the deciding factor in it winning this award. Congrats IW, Don King says you "undeserve" this.

I don't understand how they didn't give it to UC2 given the introductions they gave each nominee.

Sure they gave MW2 a glowing one but they went on to say that UC2 had the best campaign, best production values and best polished game and even praised how they managed to stay away from the bug it now fix it later mentality which MW2 is a prime example of. Not to mention they also commented on the game being the complete package thanks to the SP campaign, co-op and MP mode. Just doesn't logically add up lol.

Here's the kicker though, at the very start of the video they said a GOTY had to be more than a one trick pony. MW2 is probably the finest example of a one trick pony.
