wait and see my friend, I'm a pc gamer, but I have high hopes crytek can bring the pain, if they can equal killzone 2 on console's ( and exceed the 360's best) then they will have done an amazing thing: roll on a year later, and the middleware engine known as cryengine 3 could have made some truly amazing games, I hope to see RPG's and the sort using this engine. Damn that would be sexy

Well, I mean there's no reason not to like what Crytek is doing with the CryEngine 3 for consoles. That still doesn't change the fact that most of us will probably get the PC version :/

More people will get the PC version through pirating, while most people will buy the console version which is why they went multiplatform to being with.

The PS3 Cell has been used in a Super Computer also the Cell cores can be also used to Render Graphics aswell as the graphics card.

it's easy to look good on a $3000 PC but looking better than KZ2 and UC2 will be a whole different story.

we'll see if crytek has what it takes to compete with the top console dogs or if they're just your typical PC dev for whom hardware acceleration compensates for creative shortcomings

Because the Mechwarrior "Living Legends" is meant to run on top of the crysis engine...although I thought it was supposed to run on Crysis 2 engine...not sure about their latest engine.

Unless they've extremely optimized their engine, the console versions will be running 720p or below with a lingering 30fps at medium to low level settings.

You PC guys are the worst. Yes, PCs will always be able to be more powerful than any console because you can customize them and they don't follow a generational model, but for the price, consoles are the way to go in gaming (unless you count the reduced cost of PC games over the long run). Problem is, with genuine console exclusives (mostly PS3 here, not really Xbox), you get games of a production value and quality that in many cases rival or surpass PC. Bottom line, it's a Console war, not a PC vs Console war. PC is better, all hail the PC (or mac I suppose), but stop comparing something that you can spend thousands of dollars on custom building over years and add on to whenever there is a technological leap to something that has to be low cost and stay exactly the same for several years.

3 Generations of graphics cards and not one of them can run Crysis in the MOST optimized mode without resorting to SLI or Crossfire.

How is that their fault, I go go out right now and make a game that uses 1000 cpu threads, and say "intel and amd must be sweating bullets right now", when all they did was create content greater than current tech could handle, anyone could do the same, but pc games are SCALABLE, so anyone even with a p4 processor can run crysis, it won't be pretty, but it least you have a choice, pc games are like a fine wine, they only get better with age ;)

That's 1 reason, but it also pushes some ridiculous amount of polygons per second, that cripple even the best gpu's

Wasn't one of the reasons for making CryEngine 3 to optimize the code so they could get the same visuals without using as much horse power?

No need to pull out your defense cards buddy. Back before the HD consoles appeared you had that 1 awesome graphic card to max out any game on the PC. This SLI/Crossfire thing is just too costly to get the maximum output of a game. It's understandable that the next-gen should perform what the previous could not but really, I feel like everytime I buy a graphic card IT'S ALWAYS not enough. Especially for a game like Crysis. Hopefully Crysis 2 wouldn't be too demanding.

I absolutely understand, and it pisses me off too, i spent a lot of money on my pc at the time, 500 for the cpu, 550 for the gpu.....and it still cant max crysis, BUT, that game is an exception to the rule, and it is one of the few games that are made the way pc games used to be made, ahead of their time, those are the games that push the tech, and i can guarantee that game made ati and nvidia millions of dollars in gpu sales, so what i'm disagreeing with is the "sweating bullets" comment, no company feels threatened by game makers, nvidia is the largest chip maker in the world, a billion dollar company, they have also stated that the games segment currently makes them the least money of all their divisions.

If the next round of gpus from nvidia doesn't max crysis ( 60 frames @ 1080p in dx10 on very high) then I won't buy one at all as it would be a waste, but I don't feel pressure to upgrade because every other game will run fine

Crysis only uses 2 CPU threads. It is up too Crytek to make use of it. And they will have to with the 360 having 6. Codemasters can do it with Dirt 2. and that runs like butter. Even L4d 2 uses 4 threads, hence in scales dramatically from a dual core to quad core; and runs so well on the 360.

oh wait you did! i tried the demo on 360 and pc, 360 version was horrible, it was jerky and had very poor visuals.

@bunmut, I am being relative. Mario Galaxy runs great on the Wii. Yes compared to me playing it on the PC, it runs Sh!t, but I am not comparing to a PC. As you see I play both console and PC and take each for its own, and in context. try it sometime.

It's hardly as bad as you make it sounds DigitalAnalog .

Used to be that the 3d benchmark game was quickly an engine provider for multiple games like the quake 1-3 engines , the source engine or those unreal engines and then you were screwd if you could not run those benchmark friendly games .

But crysis ? It's one game that's all . Despite their obvious intentions , the engine isnt really shared among devs , only some TC mods .

It's just ONE game you cant render with all of it's options . Wich make the extreme "i'ma gonna rub my superior pc in yo' consoles faces!! word!!" bozos looks even more silly . but that's another issue ...

Anyway bottom like is to enjoy all the other games you dont need that expensive sh*t . Remember farcry and how it was supposed to spawn a new era of insane to run games ? Well a few years in the waiting and i only se Aion running on Farcry engine right now ... and it's indeed pretty , but most of all run on any average game machine .

Crysis based and level games arent rushing through the door yet . And when they do they'll probably run ok on most decent gaming rig by the time they come .

Majority (if not all) are CryEngine 2. I've seen them many times in "Best CryEngine 2 shots" or similar.

If the videos & screenshots I've seen are in game and running on consoles, then cudos to Crytek. It may be wishful thinking, but I'm drooling at the thought of a new Elder Scrolls game using this engine.

It Won't...unless in SLI. Even the 5970 does not run Crysis or Crysis Warhead at 60 frames at Enthusiast level with EVERYTHING maxed out. And I mean everything MAXED at 1900 and above resolution. It comes close at HIGH levels just hitting under 60 frames with 4x AA and 16x Ansio. Don't expect Nvidia's upcoming GPU to do 1900 and above at more at 60 FPS with AA sampled above 4 and 16 Ansio.

Meh the CryEngine3 will fail on conmsoles. It just dowsn't have that extra emph like the CryEngine2. In all honesty Heavy Rain's facial animation looks much better than CryEngine3.

gtamike123 your RIGHT! the Cell has been used in a supercomputer and the Cell can also be used to render graphics, that is why the PS3 when programmed correctly will always crush the xbox360.

But keep in mind the top 3 fastest supercomputers in the world are all powered by AMD Opteron processors. I like the Cell Broadband Engine but in the PS3 it gets gimped.

Those are definitely console graphics running on a P.C. emulating a PS3 (just like the very first Killzone 2 video) They won't look that good on the final product. Besides it's a big difference when rendering real time versus screenshots.

And since Crysis 2 wont be Directx 11 so I can careless, the game is being dumb down for the consoles. (Crysis was linear and boring anyway)

I think Crysis on the console will be a huge hit. Crysis is basically a console game anyway. They released it on the PC first because

one. It was a new engine
two. the current console generation didn't have enough power
Three. The PC was the hottest system at the time.

But now Crysis will be great on the console and crappy on the PC.
