Side by side graphics comparison of Rainbow Six: Vegas on the PS3 and Rainbow Six: Vegas on the Xbox 360. Both versions are near identical. The PS3 version is darker than the Xbox 360 version therefore the Xbox 360 has better character models.

1080i always is supposed to look better than 720p but not by much as 720p is supposed to run a little smoother. I personally dont see much difference, most people will see none. What are you guys talking about? for static images its a known fact 1080i is better, But for moving images 720p is better. 1080p is really only noticeable on moving pictures or games, and when you have a image bigger then 40".

FEAR looks like poop compared to the 360 version...its probably the worst looking game compared to the 360 counterpart the ps3 has recieved yet...if that makes any sense...(it looks great for a 2005 engine on the 360...on the ps3, it looks crappy)

I will definitely give this a try...I was never a fan of the this series, and have played each on for some reason...all the way back to the 98 release of the original on the PC...but a lot of you guys claim this to be very good and worthwhile...I will at least rent it...

I am not upset at all about these "ports" not looking as good as the original version...This is not a game that I bought a PS3 for...and I am only interested mostly because of the fact that there is nothing else out right now...if it looks better than FEAR, and its fun to play with better online than FEAR...I will definitely end up owning it probably...

I HIGHLY recommend this game. If you have both systems then I would wait and see what the final verdict is on the PS3 version but I've got the 360 version and its as close to a perfect game that you get IMO. Right up there with Resident Evil 4. Controls are PERFECT, game play is frantic, intense, and a whole lot of fun. In fact, if you're dying for a good game right now I say pick up the 360 version cause its definitely worth it. Or like you said, give it a rent, you wont be dissapointed.

Cool man...yeah I don't own a 360...My roommate does, but even he overlooked it I guess...I would here it was good...but figured it was super tactical and simply not a lot of fun (Like I said I never cared for the first couple in the series)...

I probably will end up buying it for the PS3...Sigma was pushed back a few weeks...and the 360 isn't hooked up to the 60"...I don't care if the graphics end up being a little worse than the 360, as long as the game isn't broken...besides we have more controllers for the ps3 right now anyway...

And don't start, Sony droids, that its a port. All games are programmed on PC's first and then made optimal for a specific console. Straight ports are something from the past... What can be from influence, is the time they take to make a game optimal for the console.

Nope. Like I said. Basic coding is done on PC. They optimize on the devkits of the PS3 and 360.

"about" being the key word. the new Intel chips can run quad-core processors, so you can in a sense run code for the 360 and get a better understanding of what can be done on that system, that still leaves you about 3 processors short of what can "in theory" be done by the PS3.

It's a Port the same way that Bethesda ported obilvion to the PS3. Only difference is that they took the time to make sure they did it right. And why is it that all games that are made by sony first or even second party don't have the same washout issues or any of the other issues that seem to plauge most ports. Kush games was able to get there games to look just as good or slighty better then those same titles on the 360, not more then 2 months after the intial release.

Any port that is not given the proper attention is alway gonna look worst on the PS3. weather its a straight port or a game that is programmed into a PC first before ported, A game on a PS3 has to be treated as it's own product. Games like Lair, motorstorm, MLB 07: the show, even Oblivion don't have the issue that seem to plauge a bunch of the ports that are shown for comparsion on this or any other site. there are ways to get around for programming ports to the PS3 without the drop in qulity that has been shown by 90% of all developers so far. While part of it is Sony's fault companies like Kush games and Bethesda have been able to rival or surpass even by the smallest margin the visual qulity they put out for the same title on the 360.

A Port is simply copying and translating already existing code and as with any translation, its never as optimal as the original source.

It boils down to who is writing the code and what type of effort they plan on putting into it. They didn't want to ground up the PS3 version of Rainbow 6 on the PS3 the same way they didn't want to ground up Virua Fighter for the 360. Naturally they won't look identical because the systems are different if you try and port them.

Please, stop with these supposed comparisons, they are not useful since there are too many variables to be conclusive and even if it was possible to conclude anything from them, it would be, they are pointless for comparisons! Jeez, don't you realise that the consoles have different graphics cards, therefore even if the resolution and textures are the same, there will always be 'perceived' differences,because of the way the GPU's display colours etc.Look at most of the past comparisons for multiplatform games posted on this site and you will see, with few exceptions, that the differences are perceived, not real.I know its a fun pastime for some,but it really doesn't help determine if the game is any good.

Because the 360 is a DEDICATED games console AND it has a FAR more SUPERIOR GPU the PS3 GPU is trailing behind very badly and the devs still dont have the time or money to render all the visuals via software to make up for the lacking features in the PS3 GPU.

Cartman it looks just slightly better, because they released the PS3 version a full year after the 360 version.

The 360 version came out together with the PC version. 360 hardware was known much shorter. If Oblivion was released for the 360 at the same time as the PS3 version, be sure the 360 version would look better again.

Some things have been patched, some shader models etc. for the 360, but overall some things can't be done by patching. That has to be done in basic coding.

Thus, that's why the PS3 version looks a tad better. Watch all other games that release at the same time or where the PS3 version had more time. ALL better on the 360.

PS3 versions of games need months of extra dev time to match or in some peoples eyes pass the 360 versions. Oblivion needed months of extra time to work out unfinished devopment that PS3 gained from and the 360 suffered from before the 360's graphical patch that is. WoW 1080p HD this and HD that was the pitch Sony sold.

If people keep doing this it will sink Sony I'm thinking this is actually reaching the casual masses and is hurting PS3. $600 and hearing this.

I laughed So hard when you just said 720p made graphical effects appear vs when it was on 1080i I dont think 1080i mode will darken the game yet still be washed out and faded. All PS3 games look faded washed out with limited color depth. Maybe i should put my set on 720p so unforseen lighting effect will appear and make my gaming that much more enjoyable on my HDTV.

^^ did you even watch and or read the vids on the site i don't care what some fanboy typed i'm looking at the god dam vids!; one is washed out (not talking about detail) and one of them has inferior lighting effects. The game is suppose to be vibrant and saturated with Vegas light, in the PS3 version it looses some of the look and feel.

This is not good if PS3 keeps getting ports, but sadly that is prolly how it is going to be unless devs forget multiplatforms.
Why PS3 gets ports is because PC/360 are easier to dev to and currently gives the biggest sales to any multiplatform game. Therefore PS3 comes always last, devs needs extra time and the game does not sell as much due the lower user base.

Only some bigger devs can afford to make multiplatform titles from scratch to PS3 and there are not that many.

Ha, X360 fanboys do everything to make PS3 look bad. PS3 output has always been less saturated than the X360. Note: real life is not saturated! I hate it when people turn the saturation/vibrant colors up on their tv/monitors and make everything colorful. I don't trust fan made video comparison, furthermore this is poor quality.

Also, the differences are so minimal to make any real difference. It's not PS2 vs Xbox anymore. The differences are so minimal.

All I can say is my Ps3 I have right here looks crisp to me on all the games I have. I don't notice any 'blurry' or crappy textures or washed out colours. It looks sweet.

Having said that the 360 shots in this post look way better. Now I don't know if all these port comparisons are legit or not, but all I can say is, things look fine right here. I need to get my brother to bring his 360 over one day and do my own side by side.

I have always said that ATi is a better image than Nvidia and I still say that, but like I said, my $h!t looks crystal here.

If it plays as well as the 360 version then you would be crazy not to buy it. It's great online, my friends and I have been playing it since it was released late last year. My main concern would be headset support as to get the most out of team games you need to be able to communicate with team members. If it's implemented well (i.e. not like Motorstorm's 2-player or F1CE's non-existent support) and the game plays as well as the 360 version then it's a no brainer.

is that current pc architecture will never support realtime CGI graphics. Too many bottlenecks in the system. Don't you think Sony and IBM looked at the problem and realized to get anywhere near close to CGI graphics you would basically need a supercomputer(aka CPU array)

that's where the Cell comes in.

the PS3 is allll about streaming your data, no use for large chunks of 1's and 0's to take up hundreds of megabytes of space in static memory.

Im trying to explain it in simple terms best I can but basically what the PS3 has done is streamline the whole rendering process.

Instead of coding for 1,2 or even 3 cores in the 360 you have to manage 9 cores in the PS3, with 8 of them needing programming to grab 256kb chunks of data, process it and send it down the pipeline to the RSX for rasterization (actually painting the image on the screen).

THIS is the only reason programmers like Ubi and EA are having so much trouble with the PS3, it's a whole new landscape to them.
If NO ONE was able to get performance out of the PS3 I would agree with your assesment. However that is not the case as we have Factor 5, Ninja Theory, Kojima Productions, Incognito, Naughty Dog and Im sure I forgot a few others that are doing marvelous things with the Cell architecture.

alot of people can learn to replicate and tweak code, it takes exceptional programmers to break a game down to its most basic components and reconfigure it for a totally new architecture.

This was especially true when certain "programmers" started crying holy murder cause they only had 256mb available to the RSX, not realizing that it is more than enough for the way the CBE handles information.

I own both consoles and have played R6: Vegas, GRAW 2 and Splinter Cell on 360 (enjoyed all 3), and from what I've seen of Ubisoft on PS3 so far they have been very poor. They either are really struggling to get to grips with using the PS3's programming tools or they port horrible attempts over to the PS3 with no effort.
I played Splinter Cell on 360 and enjoyed the game, Got a free copy of the PS3 version a month r so ago and the frame rate is awful, looks a total botched job. Oblivion is the only thing with their name on it that has been made with any effort on the PS3 and they only published that one, Bethesda did the hard work.

I don't know why people are dissing the PS3 for the bad port that Ubisoft produced. Ubisoft is the one that sucks not Sony or the PS3. i guess probably in some parts of the game it will look better. This is just a small sample. the ps3 is different from the xbox 360, if they had made this first for the ps3 probably it would have been the other way around. Or if they had to rewrite the code all again to make it look better. Like oblivion, they took a while but they were able to tweak it, and in the end it did look slighty better,and slighty faster too. The developers are to blame mostly. Or maybe because they didn't want the game to look much different on both systems, so this was the closest they came by with. But that doesn't mean they couldn't have make it look better than the 360...the ps3 has better looking games tha n this, and will have much better in the future, as will xbox360.

Reading the PROFESSIONAL articles submitted by ign and gamespot, the game looks almost identical, and the ps3 version actually has more features, but that's to be expected considering its later release. Calling developers lazy and blaming them for "poor" ports is simply incorrect. As an original Xbox owner, the 'ports' released for the Xbox, months after the PS2 versions release, the Xbox version always had markedly improved graphics. Developers were obviously not lazy then, neither are they now.

I have never said I beat Motorstorm in 2 hours. I said that after 2 hours I played all there is to play in Motorstorm...with a small amount of tracks and vehicles...I became bored very quick with it. Its fun for a few minutes then it gets old fast in my opinion. It doesn't hold my attention when I have games like Need for Speed Carbon, PGR 3, and Burnout calling me on the 360 with the wireless force feedback racing wheel. Thats just me being honest. And in my opinion the DIRT Demo is fantastic and it will blow any off road racing game out the water...Many many cars and tracks and differing enviorments and unbelievable physics....

So in a nutshell...I don't bash the ps3...I find myself defending it to my many friends and fam who come over to play games at my house....but, its clear and obvious thusfar in my opinion and many others...that the 360 is easily the best next gen gaming console thusfar...And I know the ps3 will eventually have great games....

But motorstorm averaging the low 8's and Resistance averaging the mid 8's....tells the whole story thus far. Both of those games were highly anticipated and fell short...both decent games...but not the AAA games they were hyped up to be....

I am tired of PS3 getting these crappy ports. Now I myself from that video noticed one or two things better on the PS3 side of things, but I don't want to start more flaming so I will just leave it. Its all minor crap either way anyway. As long as the gameplay is intact the game will be good.

By 2008 hopefully game developers will learn to use the PS3 to port things over for better quality on both X360 and PS3 games. Most likely Vegas was just ported and coding was reworked until the game had a decent framerate. The ports are not what is making the PS3 not sell. Its the price. Most people work on minimum wage in US so we have to work longer hours to get enough money to pay for payments on water, electricity, Internet and save 5 bucks a month for a PS3 and HDTV.

Steering wheel is a must have if you want to play Forza 2. Feedback is good with the battery pack, but plug it in the wall to feel the "wheel be ripped out of your hands" feedback that makes playing with a controller obsolete. It is a hefty investment, but the optimum way to play 360 driving games.

On the subject of this port. Yes, these are 2 different consoles, But bthey run on the same Unreal engine. After all the praise from Epic with regards to the Unreal engine running Unreal 3 so well on the PS3, why is there such a difference? I am not a programmer, but to me if you have the same engine can you not use the same assets? This does reak of sloppy port, as some of the PS3 lauch games look almost identicle to their 360 counterparts.

I could care less who doubts that I have 6 360 premiums and 1 Elite. I have 1 ps3 and every game for both consoles. On the 360 I have 6 to 7 copies of many of the Good Multiplayer games. I haven't had 1 360 break down. I have over 150 HD dvd movies and over 60 blu ray movies. I have over 2000 dvds. I have 7 HD tv's. Two 61 inch samsungs DLP Tvs. 1 is 1080p and the others are 1080i/720p. I have Samsung lcd's and Sharp Aqua LCD's.

I blame my addiction on my Father who, when I was a kid...he bought the arcade games. When they were 3000 dollars each. He worked for IBM for over 30 yrs. I played computer games when they were text based. No graphics. I have played every console ever released and I remember when the first Kings Quest was released and I was hooked and addicted. I have 4 computers in my home. They are all cutting edge and I keep them up to date with graphics cards and processors. I spend about 500 dollars a week on Games and movies depending on releases. I buy everything Movie and game based. My home is an entertainment house. I don't drink, smoke, party...I take care of my family...I produce music...I make anywhere from 3 to 5 thousand per track. I have produced over 600 tracks within the last 2 years. I work for Nintendo in North Bend Washington as well. I coach AAU 6th grade basketball. I have a full plate. I make good money. I could care less which console sells more. I just play games and enjoy Great games. The true gamers on this site have played with me on both consoles. And to all the little kids or jealous fanboys...Yall keep hating. I showed many many pictures showing my set up with "ME" in the picture. All my 360's, TV's, Movies, surround sound set up...ect. Hate me all you want. Doubt me all you want. It doesn't change the fact that I'm a Gamer and I would invite any of you to my home if you lived in my city. P.S. If and when the ps3 has games that is worthy of "ME" purchasing more than one. I most definately will. Just because I make a lot of money and love games, doesn't mean I'm stupid. I have been very unimpressed thusfar with the ps3. Motorstorm and Resistence are mediocre to me and according to the reviews...Most people agree.... Them two plus oblivion are clearly the best games for the ps3...but in comparisson to computer games or 360 games...they just don't compare in my opinion. So, while yes I own a ps3 because I don't want to miss out on when and if something great comes out....I'm not impressed personally thusfar. The 360 has been better than I could have ever imagined. I have been impressed with the games and features since day 1.

With the 360 coming out a year prior to the ps3.....I had already been next gen gaming for a year in my living room and house...so my expectations were high for the ps3....

Not that it would change results, but it makes it easier to see the difference. Vegas may look better on the 360. But I dont think it's at the point where someone can say the PS3 version looks like sh*t. Of course someone may say that, but I don't think so. 360 looks better, yea. PS3 still looks pretty good. I think a better comparison would be to compare exclusives. They bring out the best in a console. PS3 is lacking em right now. it's funny to me how the PS3 detractors never mention Oblivion during these threads.

that port is a shining example of what a developer can do when they give a rats @ss about their job. it ran smoother than the 360 version, and had a few improved visual quirks over the 360, but god forbid anyone bring *THAT up.

personally, i think Rainbow Six looks good, and not as craptacular as F.E.A.R, and Splinter Cell. i have F.E.A.R. on my PC, and i Gamefly'd it for my PS3 out of curiousity, and it was a crappy port. it says nothing about the PS3's capabilities as a platform.

i mean, hell, one look at the Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo, Folklore demo, Motorstorm, Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank, and it's very plain to see that the PS3 is able to do some amazing things.

it always amuses me when fanboys are quick to point out a crappy port from a company that excells at mediocrity (i'm looking at Activision moreso than Ubisoft, as i love the Prince of Persia series, and am dying to get my hands on Assassin's Creed), but it's been stated numerous times before, that the PS3 is a beast to develop for, and you can't just make a slapdash port because the architecture is too different from the PC and 360.

that's like saying the original X Box was weaker than the PS2 because the Metal Gear Solid 2 port turned out so @sstacular. it's absurd.

making a game on the 360, then porting it to the PS3 is like trying to push a square peg into a circular hole. it's just not going to happen, not without major re-working and quite a bit of loss as to what it was originally.

Looks faded like every other PS3 port. I'm thinking it's because they are using a TV that doesn't support full rgb color (Latest update instals a full rgb patch, but not all TVs can use this feature). All the games that looked dull on the PS3 now look sharper. The HDR lighting is also punched up. I know this because I have all systems and the washed out look is not a problem any more with this patch. I'm confident things will be the same with Vegas.

Get a clue Sony: You were the industry leaders this past gen. The next time you want to make a game console, make it to be a game console, and not a vehicle for your far too over-priced media player. Yes, we understand that you will grow your hdtv, music and motion pictures division. You make a promise that blu-ray is totally needed for videogames. But yet you put a BR player in the PS3 that has such a slow read speed, that some games have to be partially installed to the PS3's HDD. What happened to the 50GB's that costed me $600? What are developers doing with the extra space of blu-ray? there's really no difference actually. a preview on ign says so. what makes the 360 version look better in the video is because the ps3 version was uploaded to the video in a smaller format then enlarged to match the 360 video part which causes the ps3 version to look slightly pixelated and not whole color like with the fuzzyness type.

is missing the real point here.. With the PS3s supposed "power" this game should blow away the 360 version especially with almost a year to improve upon it. The cell is pile of poo for games and it is really starting to show. Instead of improving things for the PS3 version, they needed almost a full year to get the code to even run in an efficient way..

Why should programmers have to change the way they have been coding for over 20 years just bc the PS3 architecture is different. Sony should have made a system that was developer friendly so companies could focus on gameplay and making great games instead of creating hardware that makes the development cycle twice as long(which is a financial drain on developers)and at the end of the day programmers have to struggle just to get their games to run.

These are the kinds of things that happen when you use a processor(cell) that excels at things like multimedia, and try to use it as a games processor.

I could put a V8 engine in my lawnmower, and it will probably run, but it doesn't mean it will run all that well.

Well yeah, PC owns the consoles but you have to shell out some decent money to run these games these days. And I've heard people talk crap saying..
"You can get a decent rig for $1000" but thats bull$hit.
Try and pay $1000 for a desktop and have it do the same lighting/sound etc as a PS3/360 with out slowdown.
Also consoles can be played in comfort. You have to play your pc on the computer desk sitting upright etc.. it's a different experience.

Ubisoft is a great developer, one of my all time favorites... and as a port, it doesn't look as bad a FEAR, so I give Ubi props. Hopefully for the sake of PS3 gamers, the framerate is good.

Oblivion, Fight Night and virtua tennis 3 look better.

Furthermore, look at MLB '07, the one made by SCEA. It's way superior to the other baseball multiplatform game. Are there even any games on 360 that look better than Lair, Warhawk, Motorstorm, Uncharted or Heavenly Sword? Hell no. Lair has the level of detail that Gears of War has, except Gears maps are a lot smaller.

By the way, theMart has mental retardation. His numb skull won't admit that a game programmed specifically for PS3 will surpass boundaries the Xbox 360 will never reach even on its exclusives. Sure, both have strengths and weaknesses, but PS3 has way more potential. But I guess theMoron will always have a blind eye or two when it comes to his love for Xbox.

Once developers learn to unlock the power of the cell, exclusive PS3 games will look miles away from Xbox 360 exclusives. On multiplatform games, it depends on the lead platform, but it also depends of how much power you squeeze out of PS3. If you use everything PS3 has, you'll never be able to port a game to 360 (Blu-ray and HDD come to mind; final fantasy and metal gear come to mind). On the other hand, when the 360 is the lead platform, you can do almost everything on PS3, even if it looks a little washed out. When a game doesn't take advantage of a particular platform, it's always better to start it on PS3. But if it takes advantage of one particular platform to its fullest, you'll never be able to port from PS3, but you can from 360, as I said before, in case it wasn't clear.

Usually graphics look similar on systems that are within the same generation (with a few exceptions). I don't think there will be a clear cut winner for graphics this gen. Most games that have come out for both systems have looked and performed better on the 360, even when the PS3 version has had more time put into it. If the PS3 has more potential, how long will it be before that potential is tapped? No one can say for sure.

The 360 is much more easy to program for. That goes a long way. The 360 is popular right now not because of graphics, but because it pumps out a lot of great games, along with great online play. Not to mention, the lineup of coming games looks incredible.

i'm a huge Playstation fan, and have been since i got my hands on FFVII, Symphony of the Night, and MGS back on the PS1 nearly 11 years ago.

but that doesn't mean i can't respect and appreciate what Microsoft and Nintendo are doing.

i *LOVE Super Smash Bros, and really, really want to play Brawl. i also love Metroid Prime, and i'm curious to see what they do with Zelda, even though i was ultimately disappointed with Twilight Princess. not to mention that Animal Crossing is a guilty pleasure of mine.

i also love Fable, and i can't wait to see how Fable 2 and Mass Effect turn out. i'm eager to get my hands on Bioshock, but i have a feeling that that's coming to the PS3. i also love Crackdown, and was one if it's most vocal supporters among my group of friends after i played it at E3 last year.

point is, i love *VIDEO GAMES. not consoles, not manufacturers, but video games. i don't care what platform it's on, as long as i get to play it.
