Rumour: Gears of War 3 to premiere at VGA's

CC: It is believed that Gears of War 3 is currently in development. You would have heard those rumours several months ago, but could the game be unveiled at the 2009 Video Game Awards?

While I'd be quite happy with improved graphics and such that would be seen on a next-next-gen system, I have to say that I hope Gears 3 is on 360 because of the story-arc. I kinda hate it when continuous stories jump between platforms (like Halo and God of War). It doesn't matter for some sequels that have definitive beginnings and ends to the main story in each game (like Final Fantasy and Ninja Gaiden), but Gears is one that is currently in the middle of a bigger story and should finish where it started IMO.

I mean, imagine if Star Wars and The Empire Strikes back were released in theaters, but Return of the Jedi was a TV movie. Even if it were the same exact movie, it still just isn't kosher for some reason.

I personally don't care when it's announced. I owned Gears of War 2 and it's still buggy to this day. As much as I loved the Gears of War franchise, Gears 3 isn't a day 1 purchase until I know for sure it's not buggy. Gears was successful because Epic was the first developer to tap into the limit of what the 360 can offer. No game has been able to get anything extra out of the 360 since that was anything noteworthy. Gears 2 included. This thing goes to the next xbox, or I'm not buying it. It's about that time Microsoft abandons their console and admits defeat. PS3 is just picking up steam, and it has been outselling the 360 for years. What's left for the 360? When they use the finger monitor to make fps sniping way more realistic you will be all over it lol. You do have to controll your heart rate while sniping long distances. It's funny how nintendo always is so innocent yet make the best controllers for fps games lol.

Gow2 wasn't more of the same the game played completely different more chainsaws and slower online than the orginal. The orginal game was alot more fun to play the that sad gow2 game hope the next one goes back to the basics that made the first one stay on top of the charts longer then this second one did.

QFT. Although, the 2nd wasn't bad online, the devs made some bad choices on the way some weapons work for Gears 2. It goes back to the old saying, why change what works? I agree, 1st plays better(imo). Lag is also a factor in Gears 2 but that has been stated as "coming" for Gears 3 by Cliffy B. himself so it goes without saying.

There's no way that Microsoft will announce a new console in the near future - they're focused on Natal, and there really isn't the need for a new system yet. PlayStation 3 is certainly gaining momentum, and is the hardware built for duration, but the Xbox 360 still has some room to grow.

As for Gears of War 3, I think it'd be more likely to see a prequel or side-story than the third part of the main Gears of War narrative.

One of my favorite series ever but I honestly hope they don't announce it. Seeing as how we went into 09 not knowing about too many games and then they all started getting announced and then delayed into 2010 that means there would be simply too many good games for me to buy in 2010.

In response to the article, I doubt there will be a teaser or anything for Gears 3. I think it is too soon and if there were to be a teaser, I don't think the game would release in 2010. I don't see Microsoft releasing proper sequels to Halo and Gears in the same year.

Microsoft understood that 2009 was a mediocre year ACROSS ALL PLATFORMS and the worst gaming year of this generation. So they understood that dropping their BANNER FRANCHISES would be a waste in a down year for the industry.

They took the chance in letting Sony:
Ramp up their marketing.
Release their biggest franchises.
Release the PS3 Slim.

And PS3 FAILED.

Microsoft knew that the lead would hover around 5 million consoles come Fall 2010. And the lead would start to extend again after that time. Why?

Because:

The PS3 Slim will look like POO once those franchises release.
Project Natal will be fresh and new to the masses.
Marketing will be higher than at any other for the XBOX360.
PS3 has NO releases after March 2010.
PS3 has no Killer App to compete.
And the Halo Effect will be at its peak.

If Epic is going to keep the core gameplay the same as Gears 1+2 then its a definate rent before buy, because i wont buy into the same old game mechanics. Gears 2 SP was very good, but at times dull and MP well need i say more.
I would love to see an end to stupid forward/side/backward rolls and get some line of realism going

Epic has already said their heavy at work on their next engine "Unreal 4" and have already stated the next Gears title will be on the next-gen system showcasing the unreal 4 engine. I think it is not time to show the next Gears game. I think some thing like E3 would be better. Plus I think the next game is not Gears of War 3. I think Epic said they wanted to tell the story about Emergence Day.

So I would be all for an Emergence Day game. If a new Gears is shown at VGAs great and if not that is alright too. Because even if it is not shown you know Epic is working on it. Another reason I think it is not going to be shown is because 2010 is the year Halo Reach comes out. So I could see the next Gears game coming out in 2011.

I think it would be great if Epic shows a new game at the VGAs. Be it a new IP or not. This years VGAs are going to be great. Not much longer now until gamers find out what new stuff will be shown.

Whilst Gears of War 2 was an Incredible Leap Forward for the Franchise, I myself do not think the time is right for us to witness an Announcment at this current time. Don't get me wrong Gears of War is an Incredible Franchise (My favorite infact :P) I always said I would be ecstatic if the Third installment was for the Next Generation of XBox and when it was said that that would be a possibility I agreed that it would be best. Whilst not effected to much by lag, I would prefer Epic to work out problems before release this time and not have need for endless Patches. Not to say I would be dissapointed in a teaser to the next installment in my favourite franchise ;]
