The original Dead Space is one of my favorite games of all time, not just this gen.

The atmosphere and presentation were near perfection, IMHO. Heck, it's really more Resident Evil than Resident Evil is nowadays (when it comes to survivor horror).

RE4 was fun but RE5 completely went action adventure for me. Dead Space was what I needed to fully fill that horror game hole in my gaming time. Dead Space 2 will hopefully continue to fill that hole with more horror and scary jump scenes and a sick atmosphere much like the original.

EDIT: I am loving all the praise the first game is getting in this comments section. Dead Space was incredibly underrated in every way, I still think it has some of the best graphics this gen and the gameplay was almost flawless. Hopefully the second one will receive the praise the first one deserved.

I hope the sales match the reviews this time. It sold criminally poorly/slowly for how good a game it was.

If memory serves, EA was pretty disappointed by the number of copies sold (although still way better than the Wii offshoot), which worries me. The same thing with Mirror's Edge (creative and quality game, but poor financial return). I'd like to see EA continue support of new IP's and innovation, so hopefully people will snap up the sequel.

Dead Space so beautifully delivered what Resident Evil should have delivered. I have been waiting for a Survival Horror title and this is a WONDERFUL NEWS! DeadSpace was gorgeous, from graphics to sound to the environment. I loved that game. Can't wait for the sequel, a MUST buy!

I agree. Deadspace in my view is the perfect single player only multiplat game of this gen.

I have every achievement except 1 (the secret achievment) which is i have to do a bunch of different things in order to unlock it. I have the Blu-ray movie, all the short episodes from xbox live and have played the game through many many times as well as bought all the special equipment and armour.

There are so many great games out next year, but I have to say, as far as campaign and story go, I am looking forward to Dead Space 2 the most.

I love the art style, atmosphere, story, weapons, graphics...I think the graphics were very underrated.

I am a little worried because Glen who was in charge of the last games development is no longer there, but i really hope they pull it off and make it bigger and better in every way.

It was my game of the year for 2008 and I hope it will be my game of the year again.

Yeah I absolutely loved the first one. I'm a big Aliens fan and I think Dead Space had the same kind of intense atmosphere and feeling of being on a huge ship pretty much alone and against an evil force.

The fact that it was a new ip and did so many things right in the first one bodes well for the sequel.

that because of that last cut scene, and what (or more specifically, who) Isaac had to deal with in that particular situation, is what will end up driving him to take the fight to the necromorphs. That what I see happening, very simply.

They nailed just about everything when it came to the atmosphere in Dead Space. The scenery, the lighting, the ambiguous sounds from all sides. Hard to believe they did that on the first try with a new IP.

I think what stuck with me the most was that utterly disturbing version of "Twinkle twinkle little star". Masterful.

Dead Space had way better atmosphere, and it was scary compared to Resident Evil 5.

Dead Space had also way cooler monsters and weapons in my opinion. The controls were also better. You could strafe and shoot at the same time.

I actually loved them both, but Dead Space was a way better survival-horror game.

While Resident Evil 5 is more like an action game, but it was fun atleast. But in both games you are armed to the teeth, so you don't need to worry about saving ammo, which kinda sucks.

Agree 100%. I enjoyed RE5 but the RE series has lost its place on the horror podium when compared to Dead Space.

And yeah, if you played through RE5 multiple times to where you could spam the rocket launcher the game can be as easy as you want it to be.

but my favorite re was re2 and RE5 wasnt what I expected. I enjoyed RE5 but I loved dead space and wasnt even expecting such a great game when I rented it.

Dead Space DID have that survival horror sense with lack of ammo if you played it on the hardest difficulty. I was having trouble finding enough ammo as the monsters were tougher and I couldnt just buy it cause it cost more(I think, I know upgrades were more so I had no extra money). On the hardest mode you had to use whatever ammo the game gave you and it often wasnt the ammo Id like.

I came up with more strategies to make that game easier than I have in a long time for any game. Like how I stopmed all the dead humans to pieces so the bat creature couldnt resurrect them, or shot the sacs on the final monster just enough so that I could destroy each of them with only one more shot(do this cause he does something mean when hes almost dead and it makes it easy to kill it).

Yeah, agree there, the 6 people I know who got the game all got their copies used. I bought mine first day it came out then almost two months later bought a brand new copy again for my brother for his birthday.
I didn't mind at all to throw a few bucks more toward the game, it was a good quality title.

I only rented it but loved it soo much that I finished it on the hardest mode in one rental(back when you could keep for extra week at bbv). I will go buy DS2 now that I know how great DS 1 is. I may even go get a cheap new copy of DS to play again before dead space 2 releases.

Im sure DS 2 will sell much better. Im guessing they will at least add some sort of multiplayer kinda like a co-op survival mode that all the games are getting now a days. Only in dead space it will fit perfectly.

Dead Space was really good. But I think without RE4 Dead Space would had been nothing. Though the game did some things on its own, it borrowed heavily from RE4.

I agree it borrowed from RE4 but it did everything better imo. Better control (being able to move while aiming), better inventory. RE4 is still a masterpiece though.

but at the same time, IT WASN'T SCARY in the slightest... except the 1st time that tenticle arm attacks you, that's it!

The game became a repeating routine... every door you opened you just expected to be attacked by the tenticle thing every time and half the time went down as predicted. The dismemberment wasn't as enforced as criticly as I think it was said to turn out to be. Too many situations of "omg this door shut, I can't get out of this room, flashing lights, and sirens are going off".. I thought sequences actually got played out and the game became corny for me!

Solid game none the less. Im a big RE fan so 5 was a big fan service for me. My favs. in that series are the GC Remake and RE2 (which I wanna DL on PSN). Then I also am a HUGE Silent Hill fan as well, I thought the weakest in the series was Homecoming... but yet it was still enjoyable and challenging.

I've been meaning to buy a hard copy of Siren for PS3 on Ebay, dying to play that as I thought the demo was pretty morbid. Blocking the doors and stuff was cool!

But hands down the ACTUAL ONLY SCARY game I've ever played is the Fatal Frame series. Ghosts that will follow you to no end till they are delt with or you die. On top of that the clunky controls added to the fear as you just couldn't move the way you wanted. Thus making situations more tense. Sure better controls make a game more enjoyable, but the crap controls made these game series back in the day, what they were. They were made partially pretty damn scary... because the controls prevented you from being able to play as fluid to handle situations the best! and that's FACT!

Great, Great news! I'm seriously psyched for this!

This was one of my favourite games of not only 2008 but of this generation.

I picked up a new home theatre system for my PS3 last week (previous one was really old and didn't have optical connection on it!) and put the original DS in the other night to test it out. Turned the lights off and the volume up....what an experience!!! The sound design and engineering on this game is insanely good and really ramps up the terror you feel. I was never able to appreciate it before through standard TV sound but on a 5.1 it's a whole new experience!

The original was massively under-appreciated imo and i was praying that EA wouldn't can any chance of a sequel so this is awesome news!
