Borderlands Xbox 360 version is on fire while PS3 version is struggling

VGarabia.com: This month has been very crowded with the release of some of the biggest hitters this year. Exclusive Games such as Uncharted 2, Forza 3 are currently enjoying great success in all regions. But what had caught my attention when I saw the latest worldwide sales figures from VGchartz.com is the poor sales of the PS3 version of Borderlands.

Well I just finished DS last night. Will start UC2 sometime today, then I just purchased R&C ACIT yesterday and I am looking forward to Dragon age on tuesday. There is just know way I can squeeze Borderlands in right now. I'd really like to do my 2nd play through of DS too. But I want to play UC2 as well.

We are used to see the Xbox 360 version of a certain multiplatform game to sell better, but not by this huge margin. PS3 gamers does have more choices to choose from with games such as Uncharted 2 and Demon Soul, but it shouldn't affect the sales of Borderlands (PS3 version) like this. The prove to this is Halo 3: ODST which has sold more copies than Uncharted 2 and in the same time the Xbox 360 version of Borderlands is outselling Forza 3.

Even if VGchartz is not 100% correct, it will not change the fact the Xbox 360 version is selling far more better than the PS3. Adjusting the numbers up or down will not change anything.

Well you can have UC2 and R&C beat in a week by playing 3 hours a day for 7 days. I mean what are you going to do with the rest of the time. Borderlands is actually a pretty good game it is a little slow at first but flourishes into a very nice game. And IMO Demonsouls is not a very good game, good that some people are enjoying it though but it is not for me.

No surprise to me, I'm too busy playing all my AAA PS3 exclusives to even bother with multiplats. I haven't played a game on my 360 in ages, which is why I preordered Modern Warfare 2 for it. There's no way I could have squeezed in MW2 onto my PS3 with all these exclusives out now I'm playing lol.

I just bought Demons Souls, Uncharted2, ACiT and NGS2. GowC is preordered. On the multiplat side I'm expecting to see how Dragon Age or ACII perform. Borderland is a no go.

not sure about PS3 version but I had serious frame rate issues on the last mission on 360, also on the mission where you take a lift up high in the salt flats, bad frame rates are annoying in a shooter.

As soon as I saw those videos with the AI enemies absorbing countless bullets I didn't feel nostalgia for older games. I cancelled my preorder. And it is good that I did. There are far too many titles in which I am buried. I just racked up my Platinum trophy on UC2 and spent this morning in R&C ACIT. Add to that I am still trying to beat NGS2 on Path of the Master Ninja.

As for Demon Souls, well, that's one of those titles you just plan on spending months to get through.

Now pile on better multiplatform titles than Borderlands and you have ask where is the time. It's a substandard game.

Don't even think about standing Borderlands MP up against Uncharted MP.

The PS3 had THREE Exclusives released in October alone (Demons Souls, Ratchet, Uncharted 2) of course Borderlands on the PS3 isn't selling much.

Borderlands was NEVER on my radar to begin with this Fall, and I probably won't ever consider get it until it's $30 bucks at least. Assassin's Creed 2 is the only other Multiplatform game that I'm getting this year, and other than that, it's the GOW Collection, and Ratchet: A Crack in Time.

I'm sure it's a good game and all, but I'm currently loving Uncharted 2, Trine just came out and it's a blast, I'm playing through the Fallout 3 expansion packs, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 and I haven't even had a chance yet to put in Batman - it's just been gathering dust. And right around the corner is Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2.

It's certainly not because some site said the PS3 versions had some screen tearing that I'm staying away from Borderlands, it's simply because there's a lot of excellent titles out right now vying for my game time. LOT said both versions suffered from screen tear, but the PS3 version had much better textures load times (which never really bother me) and online have already been patched, on both versions.

If I do buy Borderlands it'll probably be sometime next year, and then probably used on the console that doesn't charge me extra to play it. That's if I bother at all. They really released it during a busy time. They should have waited for a lull in game releases.

Hahahaha! 360 users bragging about a multiplatform game thats selling more because they dont have any other games to play right now. Same goes for MW2. Its the only game worth playing on the system so of course its gonna sell more. You 360 guys really need to wake up and smell the coffee. This isn't anything new been like this for a long time now. The 360 and PS3 total console numbers arnt as far apart as the Wii vs PS3 and 360. The number of games sold on the 360 is mind blowing because it outsells both 95% of the time. Once in a while a game will sell better on the PS3 and most of that is in Japan.

The 360 puts up high numbers on all the big ones Fallout, Bioshock, Half Life, COD+MW, Madden, RE5, GTA IV, Saints Row, NFS, Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Oblivion, Battlefield, DMC, Lost Planet, and on and on. You can throw darts blind folded at sales numbers and the 360 almost always come out on top.

Whats even more mind blowing is the 360's numbers are double and somtimes 4 times as many with only a 7-8 million install base lead. Then when you compare first party games to the PS3 like Halo 3 10 million and Gears 2 5 million the PS3 doesn't look to good with just MGS4 at 4 million. Anyway you look at it the 360 is number 1 when it comes to pushing games.

So it makes no difference that this game was released close to Uncharted 2. There hasn't been that many great games released on the PS3 over the past 3yrs to justify the curb stomping MS gives Sony in game sales.

I have to say that I've loved playing through Borderlands. It is the type of game that I wanted. Nothing too deep, and all about the weapons. It's the kind of game that you can play over and over again. I'd recommend this game to anyone who has the time.

This really isn't anything new. 360 versions often sell more copies, millions more is some cases, but releasing so close to Uncharted 2 can't help your cause either. It doesn't bode well for PS3 owners who want to see more games developed on that console and ported to the 360 though. Sales drive industry standards so the vast majority of multi-platform games will continue to be ported to the PS3 with differing results. Borderlands is an awesome experience IMO and is a definite own.

You put a game out with issues and bugs and they'll pass more times than not. Throw me in that category. Look at Arkhma Asylum. 3rd party games can do really good, if not better, on the PS3 when they're done right. I think some study showed the median PS3 gamer was in his mid 20s and was college educated. We're not rushing out to the stores making impulse purchases.

And it's not a knock on 360 gamers. The 360 version supposedly works just fine. No server issues.

Most people don't read review sites before buying games they buy magazines related to their own consoles and judge on that so don't think because 360 got a higher rating that's why its selling more that's a stupid reason. Plus there are other multi plat games that sold better on ps3 where 360 version was superior or matched so your argument is flawed. I have the ps3 version of borderlands and its great I think the main reason is the game looks like an FPS from the back of the box and reviews and a LOT of gamers still consider the 360 as an FPS console. FPS games will ALWAYS sell better on 360 you can bet your ass COD MW2 will sell better on 360 for the same reason. PS3 has a more broader audience that's a FACT.

theres only a couple of gun types (smg, rifle, snipe, revolver, shotgun, handgun) the only difference from one gun of the same type to the next is if it has higher dmg, acc, mag size, fire rate, a scope, and elemental effects.

Think about it guys, the game scored well but ps3 owners are turning their noses up at it because the 360 version scored slightly better?! Everyone seems to think that this sends a message to developers 'make ps3 games equal or we won't buy them' but the REAL message you are sending to developers is 'developing games on PS3 is a highly risky venture and you may not make your money back even if you have an excellent product'

Does Anybody honestly think this developer is going to look at it's sales, then read through comments like these and think 'next time we'll make the PS3 budget bigger so we can get better sales' or do you think they will think 'next time we will cut our development budget in half by not even developing a ps3 version, get extra funding, technical support and media coverage from microsoft for being an exclusive and probably get better sales numbers to boot'.

So, yeah, go ahead and talk about how you are all too busy playing first and second party games on the PS3 to bother with third party games and back that stance up by not buying third party games and see how that works out for you.

I bet so, because the patch yesterday really didn't help to much with the loading times for me, and to top it all off my mic didn't seem to be working as well. My friend and I connected and reconnected until we got so frustrated that we turned them off and just communicated via AIM.

Fun game, but problems are still plaguing the PS3 version.

It's not the GAME that is broken...but there ARE some server issues at times. However, I have to say that myself and three of my friends have been grinding the hell out of this game...on the PS3...and haven't had ANY game breaking issues. There might be 15 seconds of mic skipping or something...but it is NOT like nobody is lost as to what to do. Quite simply...the game IS fun. It is like an RPG or MMO disguised as an FPS. There is a lot of loot grabbing, grinding for levels, and dungeons (of course they are disguised as different areas of the world). The design of the game is shockingly refreshing. Perks and bonuses...rare weapons...even vehicular combat (although not always great). I was talked into getting it by the aforementioned 3 friends...and I have to say...I have NO REGRETS. However, it would be nice to smooth out those final issues with the servers.

I played the PC version on my friends laptop and i was hooked. I want to buy the game, but because of the server issues I am holding back.
My PC rig isnt so hot, so i dont want to settle for the bare minimum. I will pick this up for Ps3, but not till the issues are properly addressed.
Since my Live ran out, I'll just wait it out with other games like U2 until a nice patch follows through

you're aware that GTA BOGT and Forza 3 got better reviews and will probably sell better than any exclusive released this fall on PS3 except uncharted 2? Don't get me wrong, sony's lineup is great, but stop pretending there's nothing to play on 360, or that PS3 exclusives steal sales from multiplat games, especially when 360 exclusives sell fairly well too.
Borderlands just sells better on 360 because of the audience, this is just like PES selling better on PS3.

Well, Forza 3 and Borderlands were released on the same day in others, and forza outsold Borderlands 3 to 1.
So, yes, forza 3 is great, 92 on metacritic and all... It doesn't have to be a match for uncharted to be great, it's still AAA, just like GTA:EFLC, and it's out now. I'll wait march to see how good march games are, but right now, in case you didn't notice, it's november... and there's plenty of things to play on all consoles.

I messed up and bought the PC version, controls for m+kb suck. Controller UI won't show up and it won't run on just any hardware. You have to have the best to play it @1200 res on just a mere 50 frames. Screen tearing also plagues this title on PC... had to enable vsync manually(ini files).

Nothing wrong with it - voice chat is a little hit and miss. At the end of the day U2, Demon's Souls, MAG beta, R&C are all better games that I am playing and Borderlands just doesn't compare to any of those. The only things the 360 owners have had to buy lately is ODST and Forza. ODST is very average (sorry but it is) but Forza is good. Its no wonder the 360 players are flocking to a slightly above average multiplatform game....they really don't have anything else to play.

If UC2 out sells ODST, and Demon Souls out sells Forza, BL PS3 out sells BL on 360, and RC sells more than the 360 version of borderland, then the PS3 support for those game would be valid. If the numbers show different, then the facts of the pass 3 years continue: 360 owners, buy more game because they average age is in the mid 20's (they can afford it); 360 owners buy FPS and WRPG's; 360 owners buy co-op games and MP games in general. ...This game is an Unreal Engine 3 game.

Its already quite known as to how the UE3 engine runs on the existing platforms. Its not the "highest grade" engine in the world, but it does allow for "close" multiplatform releases.

I think all sony exclusives even 3rd party Sony exclusives should have access to a prioprietary sony engine, either GG's engine or Naughty Dogs engine. Maybe a conglameration of both. Obviously it would have to be part of the licesnse that "said" game would not appear on a competing console.

i'm certainly picking up Borderlands, but probably not this calendar year. i still have to pick up God of War Collection in a few weeks, and that will probably be the last gaming purchase i make this year. all else will be picked up at some undisclosed time in the future (that goes for Assassin's Creed 2 also).

see, what happens when your console has a vast selection of quality games to choose from is you have to make some hard choices.

Get real, it's not bad but it is very dull, repetitive and average unless you like grinding.

Being exclusive or not isn't an issue, Haze was and got its just deserts. Accept that not everyone likes repetitive and shallow gameplay. It suffers FC2 syndrome with the respawns, modeled NPC's are far and few between and when they are their faces apart from one are conveniently covered so as not to have to do lip syncing, even their cloth masks don't move. They're as stiff as boards. It feels rushed and half finished. Can you have fun with it? Sure. Is it a great game, no imo.

I like how the fanboys jump on sales figures and equate it to which is the better version when it's not. It was marked down on GS due to co-op not working day one on the PS3 because of a bug.

PS3 users aren't so starved for original content, we have a thing called choice. Borderlands in the line up of things is actually pretty minor, I bought it and I can honestly say anyone creating a fuss over it hasn't had much that's decent to play this year. It's okay, nothing startling unless grinding for no real apparent reason is your thing.

The 360 fanboys using this to validate their platform as being better only end up making themselves look even more desperate.

The importance some of you put on mediocre titles is mind blowing.

Playstation owners dont buy enough games. Bobby Kotick said it 6 months ago and you guys attacked him afterwards. Yes he is a douche bag, but he did state that games dont sell well on PS3 and this is not the first game to do miserably on the PS3. The only reason Batman:Arkum Asylum sold more on PS3 was because of the exclusive Joker content. People would rather spend their $60 on something that gave more content for the their money, but if you left it up to straight up sales...PS3 would always come in last. PS only users didnt support KillZone 2, Uncharted 2, Little Big Planet, or GTA4. Uncharted 2 took 2 weeks to hit a million and Halo:ODST took 1 day. That's real console loyalty. Where's the PS3 Fanboys? When you praise a game like Uncharted 2, you are supposed to turn out in numbers to buy it.

I have both and they both have their flaws, but I see these PS3 fans cry everyday and the sales speak for themselves. Put up or shut up. BTW, The Ballad of Gay Tony destroys the Lost and the Damned! This is by far the best DLC I have ever downloaded. This is what GTA4 should've been like. The side missions and mini games tie into the story. Enhanced graphics and all new more powerful weapons(M60, Grenade launcher, P90 w/ silencer, Magnum, Automatic Projectile Shotgun, and C4. This is by far the best $20 you'll spend on DLC. I refuse to spend $20 for 3 maps(F-ck infinity ward) after purchasing this semi full retail game. Rockstar doesn't even have to put out a GTA5. They could just keep releasing meaty content like this for $20 on this engine. Definitely a 9/10.

Funny how these comment boards are littered with a PS3 following and the game sales always lack. Then they attack 360, but the 360 versions are outselling their versions. They always want to bring Halo in the picture and don't realize that Gears of War sells like Halo. Even a multiplatform game like GTA that started on PS outsold on 360. No playstation game has sold more than Halo or Gears. The best selling game on PS3 was MGS4 at 4 million copies. If you combined the sales figures of 4 PS3 exclusives and 4 360 exclusives, PS3 would lose by a dynamic margin, so why are PS3 fanboys even attacking anyone? Even the 360 flops sold more than the PS3 flops. I even saw someone say Bioshock and Mass Effect were flops...huh? Too true, I was playing this as a friends house. It's pretty much a more accessible Fallout 3 clone if that's possible, but the art style, gangs and rundown world in the game reminds me of Tank Girl. Co op is a great idea, I used to watch my mates play Fallout 3 and now I can hop in and join in with quests and the levels stay the same whenever leaving a SP/Co-Op game.

But sadly I can see the reason for this not selling because there is a lot more games out there for PS3 at this time, just in general, there is a lot more to choose from. I'm struggling to buy games myself, so I'm just renting them, I mean, I'm a die hard ND fan and I RENTED and completed Uncharted 2 and aim to do the same with R&C:CiT.

All this really shows to me is that people only with 360s buy what is most commonly suggested to buy as I've previously seen over and over again and other than Forza3 and ODST, there really was only Borderlands in October 360 releases. I can see how the game has been slightly ignored on PS3 though, there is currently a really good load of games in different genres all around the same time and most of them are exclusives.

Gearbox's port of Halo on PC was terrible. It's a shame because the Halflife game spin offs were top notch but after Halo PC I was totally put off by any Gearbox developed game after that.
I can see Gearbox slowly coming back now though, Borderlands is a really good return to form.

Halo 3 ODST was a huge disapointment for me just because it doesnt have matchmaking... What the f&^k is up with these companies making things crappy just of one little important detail they forgot to add? If the Ps3 had private chat it would make it 10x better. But no dont listen to me or any other gamers we dont know whats truly needed.

As for that yes Xbox 360 users including me havent had much good come out this month. I also own a ps3 though and I bought Uncharted 2 (Sweet game btw)and I still bought Borderlands for xbox 360. Alot of games you pay $60 for 3days of gameplay, but borderlands gives you more to do with your money spent.

You always get those crappy months though. Anyway I'm looking forward to dragon age mainly because alot of people playing Borderlands have been talking about it. A few even told me that they bought borderlands to keep them entertained until that game.

Everyone here who has a PS3- do you even remotely give a sh!t about Borderlands? My brother downloaded it for 360 and i watched him play it for a good hour, and it seriously looked like the most repetitve thing ever. It starts off with a badass cutscene, but then it all goes to hell. The graphics are awful, the voice acting is awful, the dialogue is awful, that robot bastard is awful, the overall audio QUALITY is awful, the enemies are repetitive as hell, etc.
I don't see why ANYBODY with a pS3 would want this game while Uncharted and Ratchet just came out. Thanks.

I buy all my multi-platform titles for the 360, so it isn't surprising that I automatically bought this title for the 360 without comparing reviews between platforms. I looked at the 360 or overall previews and reviews and thought it looked good so I picked it up on release day.

But I haven't even played it yet. It truly is a crowded gaming season this fall. I purchased Halo ODST, barely got into it, and then I dusted off my PS3 and have been playing Demon's Soul's ever since. Borderlands is next, but maybe not if Left4Dead2 sneaks up on me first.
