And fanboys will find more meaningless reasons to hate on this Killzone game, too.

PS3 is on a roll. God of War 3, Heavy Rain, MAG, the next Insomniac game, and Gran Turismo 5 all coming next year....and possibly Killzone 3? Holy crap.

SlamVanderhuge5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

So because I think that Killzone 2 was completely uninspired and unbearably generic, that makes me a fanboy?

It also doesn't help your case when you follow such a line with the praising of one particular platform over the others. Just sayin'.

Haly5300d ago

I was pretty unimpressed by Killzone 2 as well, although will check out KZ3.

Can't wait for God of War 3 and Heavy Rain though!

Greywulf5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

Halo3/Gears1&2/Modern Warfare

Sure you may say you don't like shooters.. but then you wouldn't have such exacting comments to say about KZ2.

Thats the reason 99% of the people here are fanboys. Sure I can agree with your blanket assertion with all games this gen, but not just Killzone2 alone. Its rare for a FPS to have inspired unique gameplay thats never been seen before, and there haven't been any examples of it this generation outside of Mirror's Edge.Yet unlike the other games that get a welcoming pass with uninspired gameplay, and broken features, the buck stops on the PS3 game, then its compared to worldly innovation. And its struck down for it.

So simple enough, can you apply your same criticisms to the rest of the games I've mentioned? Or is it just Kz2, and if so, why bring it up if its the status-quo?

I'd say if you cant find it in your ego to also include the other titles in your description of KZ2, you have your answer. Are you a fanboy?

Again, its a valid point. But its kind of the problem of the modern day FPS. Not exclusive to the Killzone franchise.

As far as the story goes, Killzone3 got its first round of funding already. So its in the works. 2010/2011? Who knows. Lets just remember Uncharted took 18 months to become the most advanced/best playing/best looking console exclusive game known to man between the 360/PS3. And GG had a kinda-head start in that department.

Noob5300d ago

And again, before it was released a lot of people were expecting the game to flop because of the metacritic score of the first one. Where are those people now?

evrfighter5300d ago

maybe they'll get rid of those horrible controls and auto-assist when not iron sighting.

If they had responsive controls and no auto assist. I might have told you ps3 fanboys that you had an fps game I wouldn't have minded having on the pc. As it stands.

It's a piece of junk.

skwidd5300d ago

.. astounding! My game of the year and I'm not some newcomer to games. Owned half the systems out there and been playing since Atari and my PS3 got it's full value when I played KZ2. Now seriously, for those who say they're unimpressed, seriously I'd like to know if you've played past the demo. Did you go beyond Stage 5? Did you play Multiplayer? Because otherwise I don't understand how people cannot be impressed unless shooters and this kind of game isn't their kinda thing. In this case.. don't bother commenting!

Godmars2905300d ago

It does if you can't even accept the possibility that your statement applies to Halo as well.

saint_john_paul_ii5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

idk, because it makes the game fun when AI is unpredictable?

isnt that what Halo Fanboys praise about Halo all the time?

when killzone 2 outdid Halo 3 in terms of AI, people like you tried to play it off.

i love the Double Standard, it shows who people really are in disguise.

i like when people say Generic. you want to see what a Generic game looks like? wait for about a month from now.

Maddens Raiders5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

like the only system standing when this console war is finally over.

Based on the number of 1st party IP's that Sony has to bank on-->>already (at such an early stage of the life-cycle) and the inherent benefits of its architecture, is how I draw this conclusion. Often overlooked is the absolute brilliance Sony has, benefiting from the trials learned with the mighty PS2, even in lean times.

Troll_Police5300d ago

Everyone who says Killzone 2 was generic and uninspired are the same guys who bought Halo ODST and have MW2 on pre order. Talk about double standards.

ABizzel15299d ago

I thought KZ2 had one of the best single player experiences this year. I loved how the game felt like the ISA and the Helgahst felt like they actually hated one another. I thought the multiplayer was good, not great by good enough, so overall I think KZ2 was a really good game, and it's being unfairly bashed.

Tavaras5299d ago

Killzone's graphics were great. I was really impressed by them. I just thought that the "feel" of the game was slightly off. They just didn't hit that "sweetspot" that I feel that the best shooters out there have. But Killzone was fun, and I will check out KZ3...

locos855299d ago

I would take MAG off of your list. I'm in the Beta and think that the game is horrible

bruddahmanmatt5299d ago (Edited 5299d ago )

Regarding KZ2, I thought the story was very mediocre. It had the potential to be epic but IMO the only true "oh s**t" moment came

*SPOILERS*

at the end after Rico kills Visari and Sev looks up to see the makings of Killzone 3 flying overhead. What's odd is that the backstory behind the Killzone saga which you can find over at Playstation.com or Killzone.com is ridonkulously detailed and amazing and I so wish that they had incorporated some of it into the game. Don't get me wrong, the single player experience was very fun and fairly varied with the EXO suit segment and fairly intense boss battles considering their smaller scale compared with say Resistance 2. They weren't as huge but they were much more difficult and required the player use cover rather than run and gun. That being said while the gameplay was top notch the story was not on par with everything else. Did anyone really feel anything when

*SPOILERS*

Garza or Evelyn were killed? Their deaths just lacked the emotional punch you're supposed to feel when a character is killed off. Not to mention the voice work was crap and very uninspiring.

Putting the single player aside though, once the controls were patched and the horrendous analog stick dead zones were removed, Killzone 2's mutliplayer became absolutely fantastic and is by far my favorite FPS multiplayer experience on the PS3. I get really annoyed when 360 fanboy websites refer to KZ2 as a "potential Halo killer" because the simple fact of the matter is that KZ2 plays nothing like Halo. If anything, Resistance is closer to halo in that you need to pump dozens of rounds into your enemies and circle them before they go down. KZ2's multiplayer is very tactical, requires teamwork and the pacing is much more slow and methodical and for those reasons I love it. There really is nothing else out there like it AFAIK.

1. Killzone 3- It's in development but IMO it won't release till 2011
with MAG and some say RESISTANCE 3 and STARHAWK plus QUANTUM THEORY coming 2010, that's too much Exclusive Shooters for the PS3 for 1 year, not only will they be eating at each other's sales but online play time as well, so I think Killzone will be held in reserve.

2. It will depend on how the PS3 version will do in the west.

3. Who knows? But one thing is for sure MS loves money.

HDgamer5300d ago

Just because you like COD4 noob style controls doesn't make this game horrible especially if I finished it on Veteran and Elite without any problems. Try again fanboy

silvacrest5300d ago

these stupid noobs who need CoD playstyle mechanics just to play this awesome FPS should adapt or GTFO

and to the people calling it generic, tell me, what did CoD MW or Gears do that was so.....innovative? yes, thats right nothing, but they are fun so they get a free pass while killzone gets criticized for anything fanboys can find

evrfighter5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

LOL. Actually I prefer cs/battlefield controls. No recoil gets old fast.

ZOMG you were able to play through that snorefest once. I couldn't bring myself to finish it and why are you goin on like it takes skill to play? I've only played the game twice online in fact I've only ever played an online console game twice and I'm already fraggin the top spot. Very sad considering I have no clue what the maps are called, I don't know where to go in these maps, I'm only rank 2 or 3, I don't even know how to tell what my kill/death ratio is with those stupid symbols.

It really doesn't help your cause when the so called game for the hardcore has aim-assist. Something that's considering cheating/aimbot on the platform I play on.

HDgamer5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

Most likely you couldn't play because you rented the game and well you're not on the top spot. You're not at number one, you didn't beat the game, you never experienced the amazing enemy AI along with Radec's fierce waves of enemies or the beautiful environments the game has to offer. This game is gold and not generic. It's no wonder the servers are always full every day. This game doesn't have aim assist like cod4, or arcade style controls. Hate on a game you can't possibly have any actual experience playing or completing because it's too much of a challenge for you.

evrfighter5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

why would I care about AI in an fps game? Let me ask you something and I'm being serious.

Do you really get excited killing bots? Is it fun for you?

And yes I own it unfortunately. If you need a screenshot I can provide it. I took a pic yesterday (2nd time playing online) in hopes that someone could tell me what my k/d ratio was. Give me a few minutes maybe you can help me out.

Pumbli5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

Bot. evrfighter. online.

... Conecting to MS master server...

Mission - Bash Killzone 2 on N4G to enrage PS3 fans.

All hail to MS and the all knowing Bill Gates.

HDgamer5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

Playing the single player is a good experience. The AI is just very good especially at changing it's tactics. Online well, thats good too but the interactive environments such as when the nuclear bomb is launched just adds to the impeccable experience. Killzone 2 offers a lot that other console shooters just aren't doing.

Graphics, Gameplay, Entertainment and Online. Lots and lots of replayability. I'm sorry you couldn't even play online or the single player. Rather play you in the game online for 2 hours. But then again you're not willing to do that.

shadow27975300d ago

@everfighter

Kills: 43 Deaths: 23

I can't believe that you don't enjoy single player experiences though. When did you start playing videogames?

Ravage275300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

KZ2 has added something new for both single player and multiplayer modes, and if you refuse to give credit for that, you are either
(1) not a FPS fan (2) a 360 fanboy

cyberwaffles5300d ago

i agree with cod being a noob game, but playing it on veteran will piss you off. doesn't matter how much skill you have, they will flush you out with grenades like it's nothing and drop you dead as soon as a millimeter of your body is exposed around a corner to an enemy. i enjoy the single player a lot, but some segments are total bull**** like when you're in the television station and there are nothing but choke points and cubicals all over the place tailored for the AI to spam grenades.

IcarusOne5299d ago

I love when fanboys make generalizations about how fanboys make generalizations. Killzone 2 was fun. Why does it need to be god's gift to gaming? Why does any game need to be? Enjoy what you want and let others do the same.

So were getting Resistance 3 and Killzone 3 in 2010

really... heres a thing how bout after that lets work on the action

HDgamer5300d ago

Demon souls is out, The Agency and DCU universe next year.

silvacrest5300d ago

DC universe is confirmed for a 2010 release then?

Relientk775300d ago

I want Borderlands, when they fix the online/co-op

White Knight Chronicles and Final Fantasy 13

and for Sony to announce new RPGs

like Grandia 4 ... Legend of Dragoon 2... and stuff

Anorexorcist5300d ago (Edited 5300d ago )

But what the author of this opinion piece (I find it funny it is called rumor killers, when the entire piece itself is rooted in nothing but pure speculation of a single individual, but anyway) doesn't see is that the Killzone graphical/development base has already been established. Certain tweaks here and there can be made to the underlying engine that ran Killzone 2 in order to complete a sequel to Killzone 2.

Does the so-called Rumor Killer here think Guerilla Games is going to take all the technological capital and knowledge capital that it accumulated over the past 5 years developing Killzone 2 and just flush it down the toilet, start anew and take another 5 years of development for their next project?

Edit:

Yes I did read the article. Specifically focusing on this portion: "That Killzone 2 took five years to develop makes the suggestion that Killzone 3 will be out a mere 18 months later very questionable."

Haly5300d ago

Did you read the full article? ;)
'Presumably Killzone 3 would be using the same game engine as its predecessor and possibly the same multiplayer structure. '

rob60215300d ago

from what I heard Guerilla was already pretty much done with the game in fall of 2008, they just delayed it for a more open schedule and not to eat into resistance 2 sales. So they have been working on KZ3 well before KZ2 was done, actually.

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3h ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

CrimsonWing6914h ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker14h ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing6914h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt2h ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos20h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto19h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger8819h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies9h ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
