The hardware sales data from Japan last week according to Famitsu.

Yep. So much for all the people claiming(hoping) the PS3 would drop down to 20k or so after the initial surge of sales at 299.

So far just for Japan it has been:

300k for the past four weeks. And wow at only 13k for the Wii.

The dsi is really selling. I like that unit. I like the dl games for it but they need to address sd card launching like they did with the wii. I am running out of room internally.

PSP go is like the dsi in that it isnt a replacement but an alternative to the other model. I am betting psp will really boost in sales once the go comes out and people see just how expensive it is next to the 3000.

At least the dsi wasnt to much more than the lite price wise.

Wii is at the saturation point until the next quirky waggle game takes JP by storm.

sony hit the nail right on the head this time

- 299$ the sweet spot for the PlayStation brand ( the Launch prices of the PS1 and PS2 )
are now the Launch price of the new PS3
- still going strong
- FF out = HUGE spike in Japan
- GT = HUGE spike in EU and Japan
- uncharted well do very good in the US add to that MAG and GOW3 and AGENT
- all the other big games that the PS3 already have and that well be out soon well really help to move ALOT of PS3's
- holiday season we'll se another huge spike with the new price
- motion controls coming out soon that well attract the PPL that are interested in a HD wii

I was at home watching TV last week and there was a programme on NHK International called Imagination. They visited a Japanese school in Osaka that uses DS Lites and a Kanji training game to teach kids Kanji. And it worked so well. It was actually approved by the board of education.

You know they have a bunch of college prep exam and educational memorization titles for the DS... kinda like brainAge but more for schooling and less for casual IQ/mental exercise/gaming.

So the PS3 is battling - with no current hope of doing better - against the DSi, while the 360 goes back and forth against the PS2.

And just think of all the money MS spent in advertising in Japan. How that could have gone into games...

Especially if u compare the 360 numbers to the original xbox which didnt even sell a million units despite being a very reliable machine & a BEAST of a machine at its time. Despite the 360's low sales in japan im sure microsoft is happy with the 360's accomplishment despite rrod, u wouldnt think japan would even touch the 360 but hey no matter what fanboys say, theres no denying the 360 has great games aswell.

Its selling worse than the PS2 right now - there is no fu*king way they're happy with that. Not after backing Dreamweaver only to be outsold by a remake of a game they already had on their system.

They were literally giving - *GIVING* - away Xbox1 one towards its end. That they now have something that's doing "a little" better despite 10X the effort to sell it is only a cause of joy to a fanboy. Not a businessman.

You guys think that with the recent announcement from developers that they were utilizing MS contract money to subsidize PS3 development costs might have to do with the decline in 360 sales in Japan? Thinking about it, if I were Japanese and read about that on the newspaper, I'd have second thoughts in purchasing a 360 thinking my game of choice might end up on the PS3 with much more. I mean, the 360 was sitting pretty well selling around 7000-9000 units / week and now it's duking it out with the PS2. Of course, magna carta 2 did come out but still... I think it was doing decent until lately...

No matter, I agree that the money spent on advertising in Japan would have been better spent on producing first party exclusives.

I'd like to see what MS 360 first party studios would be capable of if they were actually given the funds on the scale that produced kz2 and uc2.

I expect the PS3 to have approximately 4.5 million install base in Japan by the start of 2010. Which is good compared to the competetion, but I still think Japan console sales suck. The Wii is in first place with only 8.5 million sold. These numbers need to be in the double digits by now.

Looks like the Wii's rapid sales are slowing down fast. I'm pretty sure it's saturated the market as the Wii buzz has died out.
PS3 numbers amaze me as it's been out a whole month...and as for the 360. MS should be embarrassed they only managed to outsell a 9 year old, last gen system by 200 units.
All the money they are putting into marketing the 360 in Japan is being wasted and with neither FFXIII or DQX appearing on 360, they may as well give up as when those games hit, the 360 is irrelevant to a large number of Japanese videogame consumers. That sounds like an exaggeration but those games are what Halo is to America...what Gran Turismo is to Europe.
