Modern Warfare 2 Matchmaking Explained

on pc you can pick from literally thousands of servers.....see what map, game variant and with how many people you'd like to play with...the console way seems so inferior

If anyone here Twitters and follows Fourtwozeros page they should try to ask him if the PS3 version this time won't be gimped. I'm getting my MW2 for PS2, but I heard that MW1 had some serious problems compared to the 360 and PC versions.

I wonder if that'll be the case again this time, because I'll be more than mad for picking a game on my console of choice if they don't plan to make them equal in quality. (I could care less if map packs come later on PS3, but I want the same amount of support as the other two for quality gaming)

Whoever told you that PS3 version of COD4 had serious problems is an idiot. There were no problem with PS3 version. It ran identical as 360 version. The only problem that they had with PS3 version was the lack of Dualshock 3 support and Trophy patch but the game came out long before DS3/Trophies came out and IW was already working on MW2.

MW2, like COD4, won't be gimped on PS3.

Yes the ps3 version had some serious issues, some that still aren't fixed.

Host Dropping is extremely frequent.
There is no rumble.
There was no trophy support.
Downloading game settings is still and issue, and IW refuses to fix it, instead users have to fix it themselves.

All in all, this is a piss poor company.

Actually, the console way is not inferior. The console way insures that a player is actually a good player.

If a player could nitpick at a list of matches to choose from, they would never play on the maps they are not good at, which means that their rank is useless. A COD4 player who is only good at the maps Countdown and Vacant wold only play those maps since they can choose only those from a list, and their real skill would never be tested.

The current matchmaking setup in Halo 3 and COD4 is a better test of skill, since it pits everyone in different environments and situations constantly, and the player only has one veto before being forced into another map. In other words, bad players must actually try to be a good player on the maps they suck at. Its better that way, and it goes for everyone, so its fair.

Yeah that's what I thought was the case. Didn't the first patch for fixing some issues with the PS3 version take months, but the 360 patch was released much sooner? I'm not 100% sure on that, but I do remember an uproar from the PS3 folks over how IW treated the PS3 community in comparison to the 360 community with their game.

I'm gonna piss and moan at my local Gamestop if in 3-4 days of playing it on my PS3 there is some major BS going on with it in retrospect to the 360 version. Things like multiplatforms not being equal are just not accepted by me. If it ends up the PS3 version is gimped I might take it back for the 360 if I like the games multiplayer when the BS isn't present, but otherwise I'll demand a full refund and stick to other games.

...but building it in behind the scenes to me is not good enough. I want to be able to select a local game that I want to join. Hiding this behind the scenes will not fix one of my major annoyances with the COD4 multiplayer lobby (on consoles). That is, join a game, see that its laggy, quit, then only to join exactly the same game over and over and over again. My record was 16 consecutive times of quitting and rejoining the same game.

Lobby systems are not rocket science. Hell, Halo 3 and Resistance 2 show how it can and should be done on consoles. Anything less to me suggests IW don't consider a lobby system important. Well, when a game is all about multiplayer then it damn sure well is.

If you can, I've not noticed that option. One thing about matchmaking in Halo 3, for me, was that it always seemed to take ages. COD was great for getting you into games quickly.

u can select your preferance to how it searchs for games in halo 3. like choose fastest, or best connection etc. the reason halo 3 matchmaking was slow was cos it matched u up with people of the same skill level. in COD4 it didnt do that. it just matched u up to the quickest game available.

I hope they have larger Team Hardcore matches 6v6 isn't enough and all I play is hardcore. its just annoying not having enough room for my clan.

What? Anything more than 6x6 is silly on hardcore. The grenade spam would be epic, and you have almost no health. I don't know how you can wish for more people, when in COD4, 6x6 was perfect for most maps.

You 360'ers were lucky to even have options to search for local maps on CoD 5(and 4?). PS3 had no options to do so, which is dumb considering PS3 is more worldwide.
