PS3 is a great multimedia device, and a great game console, but speaking strictly GAME console, the Xbox 360 is better imo.

i predict PS2 console will come as number one.
it is still a best selling console, slim, dvd player, list goes on and on.

I could say PS3 would be number one but i reckon it will be between number 2 - 4.

Xbox 360 could be number 2, there are some other older consoles out there that could be better. i predict this will be somewhere between 4 - 7

anyway this is my prediction.

Top 4 will be some order of PS2, SNES, NES, and PS3, IMO. 5-10 will be some order of Atari 2600, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast, Playstation, Gamecube, and Xbox.

The 360 will fall somewhere after Virtual Boy.

I don't think any of the current gen consoles should be on there. There's still a few years to go before we can really decide where they sit in the grand scheme of things.

And no, the 360's admittedly absurd failure rate does not justify it being "after the Virtua Boy". The Virtua Boy was a failure from the moment of its conception, rather than suffering from a severe hardware flaw. There's a difference between the implementation being bad and the IDEA ITSELF being bad. At the very least, the strong library of games for the 360 would put it far, far above the Virtua Boy.

I think it will be either the SNES or PS1 at #1. My top 5 would be the PS1, SNES, NES, PS2 and Sega Genesis.

top 5 are easy but in what order is the thing. Very difficult to decide but I do think the PS2, SNES will fight for #1 with the genesis in a close 3rd especially considering the CD add-on attachment (personally prefer Genesis over SNES)followed by PS1 then NES. Possibly followed by the the PS3 (what's been out and what's known to be coming out even though the gen isn't over), Saturn, N64, 360 (lack of true exclusives and hardware reliability issues hurt it's standing)Gamecube, Dreamcast, XBOX, Wii, Turbo Duo and Sega master system. Very difficult to decide the order but the rest of the older consoles not mentioned to me don't matter much.

I think every post above mine is well thought out... too well--for IGN.

You're all forgetting IGN are HUGE 360 fanboys. I wouldn't be surprised AT ALL if they ranked the 360 above the PS3 and other consoles you've all named. They'll say it's because of the "superior online experience", of course, and play it off like that's enough to justify it. They'll make no mention of the RRoD, or the slim library of first-party/exclusive titles.

The article is overflowing with uninformed statements IGN is trying to pass as facts (the Wii runs distant second to the 360 in profits, for one) and at every turn the author tries to hype up the 360 and downplay the other consoles--bash them, even.

If you can't see that IGN is biased you've got some reading difficulties.

Im an older gamer.Have had a Atari 2600,Colecovision,NES (launch with the stupid ROB robot),Game Boy,Atari Lynx,Genesis,PS1,PS2,Dreamcast ,PSP,and a 360.
Theres been a ton of game systems over the years.
Predictions..
The PS2 will be first.The NES will rank high (2nd??) as will the Atari 2600, Wii and PS1.Dont even want to guess where the 360 and PS3 will be as fights will be here soon enough over that.
The NES BROUGHT BACK consoles,so dont underestimate the importance of that. Nintendo had to market the NES as a "toy" to retailers to even get them to stock it! Thats why they originally had that silly robot.
There was a huge console backlash in the early 80's as several companies were all competing to be the next Atari 2600 (in terms of popularity that was like the PS2 in its day). That and PC sales were starting to take off.

I have fond memories of the "golden age" consoles (pre-NES). Those games really don't hold up well today - just not enough system power to duplicate the arcade experience. Atari 2600 & Colecovision were my favorites.

The TurboGrafx 16 was dead on arrival in the US, but it deserved better. Fortunately, it has aged very well, and it's inclusion on Wii Virtual Console is a definite plus as new gamers can experience some really great games.

I own both consoles, the Xbox 360 is great man, and its never failed me, statistics mean nothing to the individual, you really going to sit there and tell me the PS3 hasnt had/doesnt have its problems?

My personal #1 would have to be the PS one. I would say the PS2, but thanks to the DRE I got in 2002, I missed out in about 6 years in gaming goodness, and am currently playing catchup(wasn't to resourceful in getting it back at the time either, mind you).

The PS2 definitely has, in my opinion, the best startup of any home console to date( http://www.youtube.com/watc... Turning on that baby on for the first time ever on Christmas of 2000 was a moment in gaming I will never forget.
