New DMC4 info (PSM UK): 1080p @ 60 fps confirmed for PS3

The hands on report from PSM3 UK made note that the PS3 version was running at 1080p resolution at of course, 60 fps.

-The game is said to be long, the longest DMC yet. The bestiary is larger than all previous games combined.

-Both Nero and Dante are playable. However, Nero is the focus so Dante in DMC4 is a replica of his DMC3 combo system, but this time they've added instant 'style' switching to the instant weapon switching. They also updated the animations.

-This game ran at 1080p and 60fps when PSM3UK played it.

DMC looks good so far. But I rather have mind blowing GFX @ 720p than good GFX @ 1080p. What gives? Give me motor storm / Gears of war visuals @ 720p and I'm cool. We are getting weak visuals for resolution that most of us don't have support for. BTW, I have support for it 1080p on component and HDMI.

i think he's talking about compressing and resolution and the consequences of upscaling. See, if you have more resolution, you can see all the faults of where the graphics are lacking. At 1080p, the fuzzyness and lack of detail have no where to hide, at 720p, the lower resolution, it can be masked and less noticable. I think thats what he's getting at.

You don't honestly think the game will have all graphical enhancements turned on running at 1080p on a 256MB graphics card do you? I seriously doubt that the card could handle that. I dont think either of the systems could handle that unless it was a game such as golf or maybe a fighting game with very consticted evironments. And before everyone starts talking about cell processing being the difference please stop before you start, because most of the graphical instructions and load is taken on by the graphics processor itself and not the main cpu.

because M$ specifically stating that 720p is the sweet spot in gaming. They don't feel that 1080p is neccessary, so I would assume they want all their games to be 720p..you know the sweet spot. Why aim for anything other than the sweetspot.

From what I understand you can only get true 1080p resolution through a digital connection I.E. HDMI. Component cables are an analog signal and are only capable of 1080i at the most. From what I understand anyway.

1080p and 60fps, thats awesome as hell. But I havent ever played the DMC series games, and I most likely wont either. But I might give it a rental, or maybe some demo comes out. Anyways, good news for Sony. I wonder if the 360 will support the same specs. Remember, just because they announced this for the PS3, doesnt mean that the 360 wont have it either.

I would take a rock solid 30fps over a choppy 60fps anyday regardless of resolution.

Assuming that 60fps is solid I would go with 720p/60fps over 1080p/30fps but maybe I would feel different if my TV wasn't 1080i :(

i just find it funny that there were so many people, industry and fans alike that were stating we'd never see a 1080p, 60fps title on the PS3...EVER.

now, we have two: Devil May Cry 4 and Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Lair is also running at 1080p, though i think the framerate is probably 30.

it's nice to know that devs are learning they can do things they didn't think they could before now that they've actually got their hands on the system, instead of basing their premature assumptions off of tech specs.

there are things the PS2 is doing now that no one thought would be possible when it launched. you'd think we'd have learned by now to not jump to so many conclusions, and be so presumptuos. guess not.

it doesn't matter if the 360 can output at 1080p 60fps or not. it probably can.

the point of this post is that we all should watch what we say about the consoles we don't like, because you never know when you'll find yourself eating crow.

i'm more on the PS3 side of the camp than any other, but that doesn't mean i don't have an interest in a 360 or Wii. i'll get those two eventually. i love video games, regardless of console, but just like those that love sports, or books, i have my unique individual tastes, just like you guys.

whether we love or hate Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo, one choice isn't any better or worse than any other. it's all about the games, anyway.

i may give DMC4 a try, but i'm not as into the series as i wanted to be (i guess because the first one kicked my @ss so hard back in the day). i'm always up for a sweet action game, however, so i'll give the series another try when this one hits this year.

I'll wait and see what it'll be. They also said Motorstorm would be 60fps @ 1080p. They talked about it almost till it's release and suddenly it was downtuned.

What's also important to know, 1080p comes with sacrafices. It has less detail/objects then a 720p. The XBOX 1 could do 480p/720p/1080i. A specific amount of games could run 720p/1080i, although 480p was the standard.

720p is sharper, but it also had less detail/objects. It's a sort of trade off. So I don't know where one should be happy with. I think I'll prefer the sweet spot 720p with a richer game then 1080p just for the sharpness.

You may reach for the sky, but I'll simply tell you, for the majority of games 720p will be the max, as well as on PS3 as 360. A few games may be in 1080p but the hardware is optimal for 720p.

It's not for fun that almost all games are in 720p. If it was that easy to get 1080p especially for the most demanding games, they would have done it already.

Plus: how many people own a 1080p screen? 7% of all TV's are HDTVs. Rest is CRT. 7% of all TV's. Of those I bet 99,5% is 720p/1080i. And no 1080p.

You can bet I play games, more then enough. And multiple friends from N4G are able to confirm that. The thing is: I don't spread my gamertag here because those same PS3 morons that send me PM's here don't have to know it.

Do you play games? If you did, you wouldn't have bought a PS3 just for playing BluRay movies!

Ask any PC gamer and he/she will tell you that often you must reduce the res in order to improve the performance and fx qualities.This applies to consoles as well.If PS3 is running DMC at 1080p 60fps, then thats brilliant,no doubt. You do have to bear in mind however,that logic says if you drop resolution you can improve fx, because more power is available.If you don't need more power for fx or other requirements, then 1080p is great. If for instance,you require large complex environments then i suggest devs might consider dropping to 720p to maintain a good frame rate while including large environments.Bottom line,if you have power to spare, then up the res. If you need the power for other things, lower the res. My conclusion would be that DMC,doesn't require the processing power of say, Halo3.If you disagree, then look at games on either platform that are currently 1080p, there are definite similarities in power requirements.Will the 360 version compare? Thats a fair comparison to make,lets wait and see. BTW this has nothing to do with PS3 vs 360 crap.

in DMC the camera is pretty much on rails. Rail'd cameras are a mixed bag, but with the right game, (think God of War 2) it adds dramatic directing and free's up processing (at the expense of limitless exploration.)

So it will be 1080p, 60fps, most probably better than the XB360 version etc etc. Great graphics etc etc. Just a pity I don't like DMC much. Rented the two previous ones to give it a spin and see if it is worthwhile getting, ended up playing something else after two hours.

And if I was a PS3 owner, I'd think the same thing. Unless you're playing the game on a 100-inch projector, 720p/1080i should be just fine. Especially, as it frees up the hardware for more graphical effects.

I'd really like to see a graphics comparison of DMC running at 1080p on the PS3, and a fully optimized 720p version for the 360. I think that'd be a pretty interesting comparison... and I bet it would change some minds for people who always get excited when they see "1080p!!!"

The 360 version could as well be 1080p if you want/need it. This is only news about the PS3 version. IF you need it. Because a lot of Sony fanboys are shouting about 1080p while they all have CRT tv's or just plain 720p native HDTV's max.

While all of you are stuck with 720p people have been above and beyond that resolution with much higher AA + AF + other effects (multisampling) enabled.

If your not playing in 1080p you dont have the money to. It looks better, if you cant tell your blind, litterally. Movies you might not but games and Windows you sure will.

1080p TV's come in all sizes and prices now a days. 32" 1080p tv's can be bought for under 1000.00 now a days.

For those of you thinking higher resolution means better graphics are mistaken. Resolution count doesn't mean it looks good. Yes it does it it's own right because has more pixels but the engine has to also be made to take advantage of the # of pixels being drawn. In the Tv world. I have a LCD 1366* 768 toshiba. I also have a 1024*768 panasonic Plasma. If I take the resolution size as being better I would think my toshiba is better. But lets be real here. The lower res panasonic looks wayyyy better than the higher resolution toshiba. Just like I would much rather get a 720p bravia or pioneer elite than a whitewesting house 1080p. Higher pixel count doesn't mean better. Just like more horsepower doesn't mean faster or higher clock speed means a faster CPU. Some lower clocked CPU's outperformed others that are higher clocked. It all depends on how it's done and the overall performace.
