Doubtless few people are going to truly dissertate over the overarching power of video games during the years of Atari or even Nintendo. Those were good times and most can have a remembering chuckle at the Konami code in hindsight; the problem though resides within the Super Nintendo and Playstation generations. Now, what game has become a virtual Great Gatsby? Where is the white whale that so many preach about?
Friends, the white whale is in fact the long, white mane of none other than Sephiroth. Huckleberry Finn has been cast by Cloud Strife. The Roman gods stand vigilant in the form of summons. Yes, you guessed it: Final Fantasy VII. Far from being a bad game, this exposé into, what were at the time, miraculous graphics and storytelling has become the chief offender of the "Nostalgic Disorder."
Final Fantasy 7 has come back under the spotlight thanks to the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, but is it worth replaying the original?
Very much so. Graphically it's dated but the story and the gameplay haven't aged a day. It's still one of my all time favourite RPGs and for me is better than Remake in some ways.

Rise of the ronin sold twice as much as Dragons Dogma 2 this week...but no articles about that. It's only news if a PS exclusive is being outsold.
Final Fantasy VII is pretty overrated. I mean the story isn't good at all; it's just a badly done blatant copy of FFVI.
The characters are so lame: you have a talking wolf of some sort, a stupid cat on a moogle, and a spikey haired, emo metrosexual who has no clue a chick digs him. None of them had good character development. Yuffie and Vincent don't have a good personality, but luckily they're optional. The only good characters were Barrett, Cid and Tifa. Aerith annoyed the hell out of me.
Sephiroth is the most overrated villain ever. He pales in comparison to the sadistic Kefka and Albedo. Tell me: what is so great about Sephiroth? Nothing. All he did was a kill an innocent flower girl by stabbing her in the back, and then he gets defeated by an emo teenager. Behold the best villain ever. Kefka poisoned water and even put his men in danger. That dude has no soul which made him great.
Many claim that FFVII was innovative, but it's just the same battle system as the previous ones. The materia wasn't very good; it lacks depth. You want a good customization? Play FFV or FFVIII.
Crisis Core also sucks. The dialogue is horrendous. It's filled with stupid, gothic poetry badness. The gameplay completely sucks. All you have to do is press X, and Zack will run up and attack the enemies. You don't have to take him near the enemy; he alone runs up to him.
Final Fantasy IV, VI, IX, VIII, X are better.
I just bought FFVII again, from the PSN. And I'm liking it more NOW than I did when I first played it in 1997. I don't know what everybody's beef is with this game. I think the setting, the mode, the music, the graphics, the simplicity of the battle-system and materia-system ... it all comes together really well to make what's one of the top 3 Final Fantasy games in my opinion. And that spells AWESOME for me.
It's not that its a bad game, its that everyone craps themselves at the mention of the game and how its "OMG BEST GAME EBAR!!1!1!"
