Eurogamer: Xbox 360 vs. PlayStation 3

The delayed European launch has left the PlayStation 3 with something of a problem - a sizeable proportion of its debut games are already available on the Xbox 360. Indeed, the likes of Fight Night Round 3 have been maturing on the shelves for over a year, while many of the others debuted on the 360 over four months ago. Internet gossip and many online reviews also point to several of these PS3 conversions suffering in comparison to the 360 'originals', an astonishing state of affairs considering that Sony's hardware is newer technology with a price tag that dwarfs that of Microsoft's console.

New consumers and late adopters should be able to get on the net and get this type of feedback about the two top performing next gen consoles out there so they can base their decision on something other than impulse buying (what many nintendoy fanboys use) .

It's a good thing for the consumers to know what they're investing so much money in and why. I don't cuss out the Satellite sales man when he calls my house talking down Cable making comparesons i just hang up(phone campanies also). Millions of consumers do care and they actually held off because Sony was going to deliver-pre launch. People do want the best for their money. My buddies dad just now replaced his Nintendo 64 with a 360 and he decided based on just what this articals about it has the same games i like and 360s cheaper.

And it shows that the differences between the graphics are negligible.

So finally all this "360 cross-platform games are superior to the ps3" can be finally be put to rest. They are comparable and in some places the 360 wins, and in others the ps3 wins.

So the ps3 is not worse for cross-platform games. They are the same. So if you weren't sure which version to buy if you have both, "the 360 is superior is better at cross-platform graphics" should be far from your mind - what should be there is "live" and "achievements".

It is very possible that at the end PS3 will be victorious.

I also think that the MAIN reason XBOX360 will win is because of it's 1year headstart.

The 1year head start has equalled into more consoles sold (logically) thus their are way more XBOX 360 users then PS3.

The SECONDARY reason IMO why XBOX360 will win is because this higher fan base/consoles owned will obviouslly cause multiplatform/exclusive & crossovers as we have already witnessed and read and at the least the xbox 360 will attract MANY MANY developers and game creators etc etc..

HOWEVER it isn't over until it's over,
even if we all like to admit it or not, wether you are a ps3/xbox 360 fanboy or just a gamer and not a fanboy.

We cannot deny that the Nintendo Wii is winning in monthly sales, we all say it wont last, that it will die down this Nintendo Hype but ever since launch Nintendo has maintained great sales for several months, yes you can say that Nintendo is not NEXT GEN, BUT at the end NINTENDO, XBOX, PLAYSTATION are all gaming consoles.

IS only half the story. For instance, this whole article is irrelevant to someone without a HDTV. Which console will have the games you want? Are you more interested in online play (360) or hi-def movies (PS3)? What can you afford to spend on a system, games, accessories? Lots of reasons why some people choose one system over another, for instance if low price and novelty are your thing (apparently so for a lot of people) you would want a wii the most.

Our true competitor is Nintendo , whom hopefully after the boom sales effect and novelty ware off , sony and ms will hold the top spots . Nintendo coming out on top would be disastrous and not good for gaming in the sense that we are not moving forward visually. MS and sony take strides to enhance your gaming experience visually which is how you first digest a game , only to see nintendo pass us and laugh in our faces with their devolved , retro-graphics ....it really makes me mad at all the dumb consumers and gullible people out there...i mean come on now... i will use this analogy:
if a comercial artist's album sells platinum off the strength that their main demographic is stupid teen girls and whatnot , does that mean that that artist is better than an underground one whom does everything right but doesnt have the same PULL towards this truly ignorant demographic of a beast?
Nintendo's third party support is pathetic , always relying on first party titles like the mario's , metroid's , and zelda's and the like. Its the love the mascot mentality that you see in fans of popular sports like baseball and football. Ms really has never adopted this dumbed down version or type of marketing , it maintains INTEGRITY and doesnt rely on hooks like character nostalgia to get the consumer to buy their console...they are looking to the future and using user created content , robust online communities , exclusives and leveling the playing field when it comes to them , mmorps , and other things that the public (the knowledgable ones) are asking for.
The point is that until the majority of the population wisens up as to what is "getting more for your money" , then we are stuck with fanboys guiding and padding nintendo's numbers on the montly sales stats.
Meanwhile , instead of concentrating on fighting each other , we should combine and fight the ignorant and tell them what they are missing until they get it.

Sony and MS themselves have invited these comparisons, first by targeting the same market, and then actually going after each other through their PR and marketing departments.

Fence sitters should be able to find these sorts of comparisons useful. They're done with cars, microwave ovens, dishwashing detergents, sanitary napkins, etc. So why not game consoles?

The only people that would be bothered by these things are those that have some ego investment in a particular console, much like a sports team or political party, such that they experience that console's setbacks as a personal defeat. I don't think this is the smartest thing to do, given that people's psyches are sufficiently exposed to potential injury even without extending their emotional vulnerability to cover commercial products. It's just an appliance boys and girls, don't make it a part of you.

the reason PS3 fans care about this is because of all the taunts from the 360 camp over how the 360 had better graphics on cross platform games. As we have seen, if developers take their time to fully get a grip on how to program the PS3, the graphics are as good. Sometimes its a bit better on the PS3 and others on the 360. Overall at this point I would call it a draw. Also keep in mind that the developer's want their games to look the same or as close to the same on both systems. Where we will see the biggest differents is on exclusive titles. 360 is currently the champ with Gears of War. It will be interesting to see how the PS3 does with titles such as Killzone 2, Lair, Heavenly Sword, etc. Hopefully as these 2 systems battle we will seem them continue to one up the other and all of us as gamers will reap the rewards.

the only reason 360 people have been saying this is because ps3 people where like "dude just wait untill the ps3 drops, it will have 5x times better graphics...bla bla way more powerfull... bla bla, im a sheep and i belive everything sony tells me" and then the ps3 comes out and it isnt 5x times more pwerfull the cross-platform games look just as good on a system that is $200 less and better online support. so if a sony fan cant take reality they shouldnt be pissed off at anyone but sony. if a system is just as good for gaming and is $200 cheaper and have all the gmaes that the more expensive system have and more then why would anyone want the more expensive system? its simple logic. and dont call me a 360 fanboy cuz if anything im a nintendo fanboy more. i have every nintendo system aside from the wii (becuase i think that payering $250 for a beefed up gamecube with a new controller is dumb) i went wiht a 360 this gen becuase it is plainly the better deal and will bring me the most games and fun for the littlest $$.

I have played every multiplatform game for both and the 360 version always looks and plays better...sometimes its close and others its a notible difference. I'm sorry if that offends fanboys..but thats what I see playing the same games on the same tv...61 inch 1080p Samsung.

On the online aspect of both....I once again give the clear edge to MS. Sure I love the fact that the ps3 network is free...But many games aren't taking advantage of the online and lack in the many features xbox live has.

Exclusives titles coming...I once again give the edge to MS. Who can comare games coming this year....2007...with what the 360 has coming out? Its truly amazing the "BIG" next gen games releasing this year for the 360. Now the ps3 has some "BIG" games coming in 2008...so we will see how things pan out....But gamers on the fence don't need to know which system pushes the most numbers via their processor....they need to know which system has the features and games they want....And which system performs better in a head to head for "GAMES" since that is what you buy a game console for...."games" not "numbers".

Cross platform titles are comparable and in some cases look better on the ps3. Eurogamer - an unbias site, that can indeed be overly hard on the ps3 (6 for resistance) prove this with their propper input and 1080p hdtv.

Exclusives better for the 360? I think the ps3 has just as many good titles and ones that attract me more as I'm not a fps fan. Heavenly Sowrd, Lair, Uncharted, The Getaway, MGS4, Killzone2, Ratchet...all in 2007. Those are just the ones that come to my mind.

Oh and some of those 360 exclusive titles are coming to the ps3 as well. So it's all good.
