Mars confirmed for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC

Gamezine: Spiders' previously thought PlayStation and PC game has been officially announced for the Xbox 360.

We revealed the action RPG last month, with only the PlayStation 3 and PC mentioned as the game's available platforms.

We presumed the sci-fi game might come to the Xbox 360, but when Spiders' CEO Jehanne Rousseau explained that the PlayStation 3 was their lead platform, since its development was based on Sony's Phyre Engine, an Xbox version seemed unlikely.

A new sci fi action-rpg is always a win.

EDIT: ya know, unless it sucks.

These games are "uninteresting"?!

I don't think so, Buddy.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi5491d ago

I meant for this particular game. If it were a ps3 exclusive i would expect it to try to utilize the ps3's hidden potential. But because its multiplat its just a doom clone now.

Funny thing is that i don't own a single game on that list nor am i interested in them lol. Except FF13 of course...and maybe mw2, though i highly doubt it with all the fps's i've been playing lately.

DragonWarrior_45491d ago

Just cause Sqeenidos says they are going to put fF13 on the 360 doesn't mean they will. In theory it looks viable, but lets be real here. 7 disc game on the 360? Use your brain.

lowcarb5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

PS3 is the lead platform so I doubt anything would get cut. Quit hating and keep the fanboy talk in the open zone. The PS3 seems to be the console always trying to keep up with 360 multiplats so just be glad this game could reverse that trend.

xabmol5491d ago

Devs don't have to "utilize the ps3's hidden potential" to make a great game.

"because its multiplat its just a doom clone now"

WTF?! Are you... I mean... Uh... I don't... WHAT?! Doom Clone? Do you even know ANYTHING about this game?

"Funny thing is that i don't own a single game on that list"

Actually it would be funny if you did own a game from that list. Seeing as they have yet to be released.

Dude what are you doing here? I feel like I'm talking to my grandma about games and she is just trying to make conversation.

xabmol5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

NVM

Nice edit there.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi5491d ago

"Devs don't have to "utilize the ps3's hidden potential" to make a great game."

Didn't say they did... but i shouldn't have to tell you that multiplatform games usually don't do well on ps3. And its not because either platform is better or worse... its because multiplat engines don't do well as dedicated engines on ps3 or any other console for that matter. That's something that no one can deny. I like the best games and the best games and exclusive games..... most of the time.

"WTF?! Are you... I mean... Uh... I don't... WHAT?! Doom Clone? Do you even know ANYTHING about this game?"

Mars? The rpg that takes place on a politically divided planet where the sun has a negetive effect on gameplay and you play as 2 different people with two different stories... why yes...yes i do know something about this game.

"Actually it would be funny if you did own a game from that list. Seeing as they have yet to be released."

I know that. When i wrote that comment i misread some of the titles i guess. Thought you had listed some games that were already released.

"Dude what are you doing here? I feel like I'm talking to my grandma about games and she is just trying to make conversation."

The real question is what are you doing here flaming me. I simply posted my opinion. If you didn't agree with me there is a disagree button... you could even take away a few bubbles if you're actually that petty. But what i don't need is a guy wasting my time with dribble because he can't accept that some ppl just like exclusives better. Get it?

Sharingan_no_Kakashi5491d ago

"PS3 is the lead platform so I doubt anything would get cut."

Who said anything about anything getting cut?

"Quit hating and keep the fanboy talk in the open zone."

I never said i hated the game. I've never played it. i said i was uninterested in it because its multiplatform. As i stated before... i'm more into exclusives.

"The PS3 seems to be the console always trying to keep up with 360 multiplats so just be glad this game could reverse that trend."

*sigh* You completely missed the point.

original seed5491d ago

Xambol, thats a good list. Im gettting at least 6 of those for sure. Some others later down the road. Some people dont see good games when they come around. Some people only care for high-profile games and miss out on the hidden gems.

Dragon warrior, Maybe i misread your post, it seems that you are saying that FF13 is not coming to 360. If so, it is common knowledge that it is. It has been confirmed at E308. It was the biggest gaming news of 08. A major blow to Sony.

Killjoy30005491d ago

Because I got the initial impression from HHG's show about a week or two ago that this was going to be an exclusive game for PS3.

I like HHG, but his information, not that I've ever fed into it, is very misleading.

Weird how the Phyre engine works on the 360...
Hopefully they will improve the game's graphics from now till next year... I would love a new fun and good looking sci fi rpg...

siyrobbo5491d ago

was colin mcrae dirt not based on the phyre engine? If its being developed for the PC then it shouldnt be too difficult to port over to the 360, and as its already ps3 compatible its win win

good move on sonys part

Ju5491d ago

Never heard the phyre engine runs on the 360. PC, yes, 360, no. That would man Sony is an official registered MS developer, which I doubt will ever happen. PC is open, 360 is not. (this is not a technical issue, though).

If it runs on the 360, it does not use phyre engine (on that platform).

anh_duong5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

this is just a question - i would rather you give me an answer instead of just disagreeing or agreeing:

"where in the article is there confirmation that the game will come out on the xbox360?"

if there is no proof then this is just another example of gaming journalism going down the drain...

RadientFlux5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

while not in the article, they did mention that game was announced to be coming to the Xbox 360 in a press release ( http://www.mcvuk.com/press-... ).

techie5491d ago

Not in the article? "Spiders' press release states that Mars will be released at the end of 2010 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."

anh_duong5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

they did not provide any link to the actual press release they provided a link that gave complete the opposite information.

following their own link takes me to the official website :

http://mars.spiders-games.c...

that still states that the game is only available for the ps3/pc

i have NO DOUBT this game is going to be multiplatform but why not just link directly to the official press release instead of just pasting links to an official website that gives confliction information.

techie5491d ago

Because press releases are not posted on the internet, they are sent to journalists - like Gamezine.

anh_duong5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

then print the release verbatim and post it on your website instead of making some comments and contradicting your own comments with links to official webpages that aren't up to date.. most news reporting agencies publish press releases. i have both bloomberg and reuters in front of me and they are continually streaming press releases from EA, Eidos, Sony etc etc

also you will actually find that a lot of companies do publish press releases on their homepage - if not in their newspage then often on their investors relations page.

eg:

http://www.ea.com/news/

techie5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

It's made very clear that this is a new press release made today, with a link to a previous article on the game to detail its features, not to contradict them - they state they were originally wrong.

And all the press release says is the last sentence (plus previous details on the game) which is posted in full. The only thing you're complaining about is that there aren't quotation marks. Posting press releases, instead of writing up the news, is lazy journalism. If I wanted to read press releases I'd go to Bloomberg and Reuters - but I don't.

anh_duong5491d ago

i actually prefer to read the companies press release then rely on someone else's interpretation or just assuming them to be true.. i think you are wrong to assume that reprinting a press release is lazy.. reprinting a press release (or linking to one) is regarded as the norm but let's agree to disagree..

don't know about you but N4G has been inundated with CONFIRMED pieces of news of late that have not actually been confirmed... hence the skepticism...

techie5491d ago

Well why don't you tell them instead of complaining on here.

anh_duong5491d ago

Deep I am responding to your comments. This is a discussion forum. People complain here all the time. Tell me you never complained about a journalist in here beforr you make such a dumb comment

techie5491d ago

Dude - my point is. Why would they be reading N4G? Why don't you go and tell them to their face in a comment under the article in Gamezine. Maybe they'll change it.

anh_duong5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

are you stupid or something? this is a discussion forum. you are saying that people shouldn't complain what gets posted here???

i am complaining about the quality of journalism that gets posted here.

the whole principle of rubbish getting approved here day in day out that shouldn't be approved.

i have no complaints about games going multi-console - infact i hate exclusivity (i even have more xbox games than ps3 games) because all it does is deprive gamers of the chance to enjoy games but what i hate is crappy journalism that doesn't include proper sources and has links that says the opposite.

ie. i am against sensationalist lazy journalism.

to tell me to complain at the journalist directly is completely missing the issue altogether - especially after you realised you lost the argument with me about why the article is written in an unprofessional manner.

btw: most games journalists worth their salt look at N4G.

SoapShoes5491d ago

A simple google search will show you that. The only website stating this is Gamezine and N4G. Not confirmed by a long shot and also it's funny how they think Sony will let their engine be used on a different platform...

INehalemEXI5491d ago (Edited 5491d ago )

Sony built a multi platform engine (phyre engine)....its free for devs too.

http://www.psxextreme.com/p...

DiRT used this engine. So sony actually provides dev tools for some 360 games that are multi-platform. This is one of those cases...Mars uses the phyre engine.

Ju5491d ago

I'd like to see that confirmed. I doubt it runs the same (render) engine on the 360 (that is, what the phrye engine is, it is used as a render backend only).

M.A.R.S. Early Access Gameplay

Aside from being dated in terms of graphics and gameplay and riddled with bugs even in an early state; the game was just boring and no fun to play. But here is a look at the pending game.

Top 5 Upcoming RPGs Nobody Remembers

BNR: Mass Effect. Skyrim. Final Fantasy XY Chromosome. Tell me, what do these games have in common? For starters, they’re clearly RPGs- popular ones, at that. They’re also massively expected, hyped, promoted. It seems that this generation has been a good one for roleplaying games. Unfortunately, it seems that plenty of (awesome!) RPGs tend to get overshadowed by bigger, more popular ones.

THILLREBORN4402d ago

Yeah there are several games that people forget like Data Fly...what happened to that it wasn't cancelled I know that.

Jourdy2884402d ago

Aw man, I was just thinking about that game! If it was an RPG, the list would've been 6 ;)

snipes1014401d ago

Am I the only one who got no audio whatsoever for the trailer to that "Mars" game?

Anyhow, I always love hearing about new, under the radar RPG's (that's how I found Risen, diamond in the rough if you ask me), good article/research.

Statix4401d ago

WarDevil and Data Fly both struck me as extremely suspect and possibly frauds. Why a company would want to fake a game being in development, I have no idea.

deep_fried_bum_cake4402d ago

I'm not sure that it's "Nobody Remembers" with these. It seems to be "nobody has ever heard of".

Jourdy2884402d ago

That probably would've been a more accurate title.

stonecold34402d ago

still waiting for final fantasy vs 13 to come out and same goes ni no kuni

Outside_ofthe_Box4402d ago (Edited 4402d ago )

Those are the 2 rpgs I'm looking forward to also.

I was really hoping ni no kuni would have released either in Jan or Feb to get my jrpg fix now while hoping that VS13 releases by the end of this year to get another great jrpg fix at the end of the year and by that time I should've been satisfied with my time spent on ni no kuni.

kreate4402d ago

It may not be as great but...

Tales of graces?
Hyperdimension?
Ff13-2?

Outside_ofthe_Box4402d ago (Edited 4402d ago )

@kreate

13-2? HELL NO! lol

As for the other games you mentioned, those aren't my type games to be honest.

Dark-vash4401d ago

You should think Outside of the Box... FF13-2 was way better then the first!

Indigo1234402d ago

ninokuni is already out in japan for both the ds and psp, in the US the ps3 version should be out in october or november.

But theres plenty of other stuff to love this year.......

IRetrouk4401d ago

It's been put back to 2013, according to the official PS3 magazine.

Indigo1234402d ago

Kudos on listing rexx first, some of those other choices are suspect

TopDudeMan4402d ago

Yup, I didn't know any of these games existed. I'll keep an eye out

Mars development put “in pause”

this will never see daylight on any platform/console..

KingNintendoFanboy5016d ago

I couldn't have said it better myself. It's gone.

mastiffchild5016d ago

Meh, didn't everyone already place this one alongside the debacle we've had with Wardevil anyway? These games, both of them, had about one update every 18months since being announced(and Wardevil's usually includes wild promises, like 1080p, 60FPS and so on, and a platform dancing announcement!)and NEVER anything like a solid hands on for the press or anyone else.

I'm seriously surprised theyu bothered saying this as I'm certain everyone with half a brain already wrote Mars off over a year ago-maybe more. When you think how many people work on games like these, how much a team of one or two manages on a million indie games and it starts to make you wonder if they EVER started on the actual games post trial demo stage/presentation/concept footage. Certainly ALL we ever saw of either was vague and ion Mars case looked shoddy anyway while Wardevil was always what seemed to be animated target renders and little else. Doesn't anyone else feel we might have actually seen gameplay of both by now had there ever been funding and a team working on them?

Suffice to say we have very little idea how Mars would have played as a game beyond the odd dev interview here and there(best I ever made out was that it was a WRPG/Hack and Slash hybrid of sorts but with a game like that, see FO3, you NEED to see how it meshes the genres and we only got glimpses of combat or a few clues as to how and what you might get to level up). Bethesda made sure we knew all about VATS and so on before we got to play the game, see it for ourselves in the flesh or anything else and I think Mars would have done too, a long time ago, were they ever seriously going on it.

Sure, it's sad to see a game looking like it's biting the dust but I'd run out of hope for this one a while ago, tbh.

Quagmire5015d ago

Its ok, at least we still got Red Faction: Armageddon coming out soon

aselah5016d ago

Ya, which sucks, it looks like it might have been a good game.

JewelTheif5016d ago

Hope it still comes out. You know how devs are with this on hold crap.

TheColbertinator5016d ago

Looks like cancelled to me.Such a shame

coolasj195016d ago

this game existed today. But, it's never gonna get released. Never good when something gets canned.

mastiffchild5016d ago

IDK, I wish they HAD canned quite a few games recently! Where's the justice when a promising idea gets stiffed and Wet sees the light of day to pollute our consoles? And half hearted efforts get through, like Eat Lead:The return of Matt Hazard, which looked like a decent idea that they can NEVER have had either the licenses(a few actual game characters would have made for an hilarious gaming parody but generic wizards and FF chars made it weaker than it should have been and in the state we got it they would havce been better off not bothering at all. Both ways there's a shame to be made) or the cash to fulfil decent premises.

Nier, was another game that just, for me, justified existing in the threadbare state it did(honestly, some of the worst current gen graphics/textures and models and animations can be found within SE's seemingly mistreated baby-was it Cavia's?)while a bit more time and money would have possibly made it one of the freshest and most imaginative rpg twists for a while. Seems to me there's a big issue with funding and it's luck whether your new IP or sequel to a near forgotten franchise gets made and HOW well the dev is capable of making it right now.

There must be so much money wasted in this industry on half finished ideas, ideas that get green lit but then canned and then budgets awarded that make making the game a travesty of what it should and could have been. Personally, I wonder if they would be best finding out what makes a great idea earlier in the process, invest some more in this area to save all the half done, canned along the way and under developed games we seem to get more than ever.

But, yeah, it's always sad as every game is SOMEONE'S idea, someone's baby and as such it's sad not to get to see them being played. Notr that we dn't all seem to have a bif backlog of unfinished, half finished, just started and not even started games year round anyway but, yes, still a shame.
