I havn't bought a PES game since PES4 which i still play now. It is the greatest football game ever made and still beats all the modern PES and FIFA games. Havn't bought a FIFA game since FIFA97 and FIFA 98 world cup. I think 97 is the one with Ginola on the front. What a legend.

Gameplay wise pro will always be top, but fifa have really tried to up their game in the last few years which pes has lacked

I have bought this game first day for like the last 8 years, until the last one that is.

The online is a joke, and it is the only game this generation (possibly along side RE) where a brilliant game has taken a step backwards.

I really hope this years one is a lot better than the last two years.

He said after 07 that the new engine should be ready for the 2010 edition,and if the changes in the last update were any indication of the new PES then it could be special,the main thing I think needs changing is the animation system and have it more physics driven.Problem is it could be a barebones edition as it's a new engine it could take another year again to be up to speed.
But I'm sure EA have also said they will have a brand new physics system this year,as 09 is still based on fifa 07,so that could be interesting.

FIFA 09 has beeter gameplay than PES 09 did, there is no too ways about it. FIFA is officially the better franchise - hopefully Konami can do better this time. Their 4th attempt to make a decent football game this gen arrives in October 2009.

I can only disagree , Fifa is better in every form and presentation ... but at core , gameplay wise , still can't beat a PES that is currently at it's lowest (well not it lowest was '08 but still...)

You can do more moves in Fifa , but like PES it's horribly scripted , even more . main difference is subjective i guess ... a feeling . I dont feel my player in fifa .. he can do a lot of things , far too much spectacular stuff even , without a sense that i actually did something .
And the ball , it's too easy to steal a ball by running up to a player .
While in PES you do feel in control , but it lacks many moves .

I guess my ideal game would be a mix of both actually .

dude world cup 98 for ps1 was PERFECTION and sooooooooo effing FUN that i looked forward to playing it with my cousin More and more every time.
as for the generation after that i would have to say world tour soccer 2006 for ps2 was amazing as well and my favorite all time ps2 futbol game.

But as for this current gen,i dont know witch is better fifa or PES?
im looking for something real but not to the point of un-enjoyable realism.
i played the demo of both and found pes a little more sim then fifa 09 but fifa 09 was pretty fun with a lot of options available

can anyone reccomend wut futbol game would be the best for this current gen?

BTW on topic for this article: it sounds a bit to early for another pes announcment since it was less then 6 months ago that PES 09 came out but wutever i guess.

How is that early ? The game gotta get released around october , like every year , same as fifa .
Just dont expect a full coverage . Most likely a few shots the new graphics engine , if it's new .. some bones thrown about the gameplay and modes ... then later a teaser with mostly cgi ... before the full on details during the summer .

That's how both franchise goes usually anyway . And this time Fifa built a lot of momentum with many player convinced , only positive critics in the press .. and pes dissapointing , even for people still remaining pro PES like myself .
Quite frankly the only reason to remain on PES in 2009 , would be a default win in gameplay (only of course if you feel pes plays better ) and the career modes . Everything else was lousy , and the "superior" gameplay hasnt convinced everyone either . Konami got a lot of PR and damage control to do .

There is great risk that even if this pes 2010 was indeed great , possibly better , it could still sufer backlash from two years in a row of crappy pes .

should be fun to hear but in all honesty they say its improved but when you buy its the same nothing changes plus the online is the worst ive ever seen its been like that for 2 years i think and people have lost interest in it because of the online imo with fifa 08 to 09 you can see a dramatic difference i think fifa now has the crown its sold like 5+ fifa 09 and fifa 2010 will be better imo than PES 2010

This is the one everyone should judge harshly . This is the much promised revamp , the reason we suffered twice the same weak iteration of the game on next gen consoles , so it better be worth it . Unless of course he was lying ...
Weither he actually pulls it off , or it's again more of the same , no surprise either way .

I have always been a PES fan, but the last couple of years i've had both, and FIFA is getting ever better. I go through spells of playing each of them and can never decide which is best overall. Sometimes FIFA feels so nice when you put a good move together, I think that's down to the more realistic movements and physics. I'd say overall PES is just ahead but it's very close, both have strong and weak points.
It'll be interesting to see some news of PES 2010, I just hope Newcastle Utd will be in the game!
