Rumor: GTAIV Episodic Content Coming to PlayStation 3

PSInsider writes: GTAIV The Lost & Damned will likely be released mid-year 2010 in the storm of hype Take-Two will be producing for it's next full release Grand Theft Auto title. It will come with at least the Lost and Damned episode available on Xbox Live right now, as well as the next episode, and will retail on a disc for around $40 on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The source also believes the second episode will be released on Xbox Live later this year, and we also have a very strong hunch we will see some more of the next episode by this summer.

I wrote a blog long ago about PS3 getting the DLC, and it will probably happen.

A PS3 retail version of GTAIV with both Episodes on one Blu-Ray around christmas is not a bad bet. Possibly a ultimate game of the year edition.

GTA V will probably not be here until late 2010 and this would be a great way to keep the GTA franchise alive in the publics mind...

Of course DLC will come to PS3, but not Lost and Damned nor the second piece in October, those were paid for by Microsoft's lovely Live subscribers. Dan Houser said it was very likely the PS3 would get its own content sometime in the future. And I sincerely doubt they will let such a profitable opportunity and commitment to the fans on the 'other' console slip by.

You may not be that bothered about GTA4 dlc and neither am I, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it crap dlc. as far as dlc goes it's up there with the best, but too many games and too little time means even if it did make it to PS3 (which I don't think it will) I don't think i'll be getting it.

The exact terms of the exclusivity deal are not public. It could be timed but, for the price they paid, I'm thinking that it's unlikely it will ever be on PS3.

I think this is a shame but, as other have said, I think PS3 fans will get by.

microsoft bough the DLC... but not necessarily the software itself, just the ability to sell it in downloadable form. and we all know how R* is about exclusivity, they don't sell it. they didn't with ps2, and they won't with 360. timed exclusivity is as good as it will get. however, that also doesn't mean that the ps3 version won't have exclusive perks of it's own...

Microsoft didn't buy the game and for 50million that's an expensive down load which is what it is where it could have been spent somewhere better little sorting out the red ring of death or a completely new game

It's not too far fetched tbh. The point of MS getting exclusive dlc is obviously so people bought GTAV on the 360 if they had a choice (which sales figures show) and also make a profit on all the downloads of the dlc.

Thats done now so i don't see what they would gain from it being exclusive rather than timed exclusive.

As i say timed or not the 360 getting the content meant that alot more bought the 360 version than they probably would have done + dlc sales. But R* would have been on to a winner if MS paid them $50 mil but it was for a timed deal allowing them to sell it on the ps3 at a later date...

Could be possible, Rockstar may have a clause in their contract that says that if the game fails to sell well enough then they can port it to the PS3.

I'm quite sceptical though considering how much money Microsoft stumped up for the content, unless it's actually cost Rockstar more than the rights were worth

I personally think it was 50 Mil for them to make the whole game multiplatform with some exclucise content. To be honest the game was well over hyped and the story sucked balls. Loved the other GTA's but they dropped the ball on this one big time.

From the story i have seen Lost and Damned looks good but i'm not going to go out and rebuy GTA just for it.

Hope they sort it out for GTA 5 as i have always been a big fan of GTA series since the first one.

In GTA:SA you can do so much more that GTA4 feels like GTA3 HD remix. I just knew they were going to take everything from SA, add some new features, and then top it all off with top of the line graphics. Well we got 1/3 of that list and thus the great disappointment.

I still haven't finished the game as I got bored right around the 50% mark. Don't know why but I just did. Felt like something, so much really, was missing from the game.

I'll be the first to say I was a little disappointed with GTA4 but to say it 'sucks' or that it's a bad game is ridiculous. Yes, it was overhyped and yes it had it's problems but at the end of the day, it was still a really good game.

Unless this PS3 GTA 4 DLC greatly improves the variety and content of the game, includes all the best missing features from previous GTA titles, (and NO biker gang main character!) - then I dont give a sh*t about it! And this is coming from a MASSIVE GTA fan. Even if Lost and Damned came out on the PS3, I just would'nt buy it. There is nothing about Lost and Damned that would re-ignite my interest in GTA 4 and the biker gang thing is so off-putting for me (maybe somewhere like Arizona or Alabama, but biker gang violence in NYC? I dont think so!).

@ Chozen Woan - you are totally right. GTA 4 is essentially just a HD re-make of GTA 3.

If GTA 4 was actually the game it had hyped itself up to be then all this talk of DLC would be a big thing. But in the eyes of many including mine, GTA 4 simply was not the great game it was supposed to be, even though it was still very good to play. It aint no fanboy thing becauuse I remember a few months after GTA 4 came out, on N4G many gamers both PS3 and 360 owners were saying how dissappointing the game was and how it was not all that good after all. And from what I can see on here, most people still hold that view. I just hope Rockstar make a much better GTA title next time (a modern Vice City re-make hopefully!).

lol 1st off in my personal opinion on the matter i dont think many ps3 owners will care much especially if it arrives in 2010 where the likes of god of war 3, GT5, team ico project , twisted metal ps3, syphon filter ps3, ff13 are among many of titles slated to make a smooth landing.

now dont get me wrong gta has always been fun, but for some reason it dont seem to carry a loyal croud behind it like other games do, i mean ff, halo, GT, god of war, MGS, twisted metal, gears, all seem to have a croud of gamers that would say (i cant wait for the next one,) behind it.

i mean loyal followers heck im psyche for uncharted 2 nevermind gow3 or gt game, to me gta just doesnt have that feel.

to me gta is something like those countless money sucking rockbands/guitar hero same sht, they sell but dont bring out that feeling, madden sells a boat load so logically there's a new madden out every year. however, do i feel the need or anxiety for the new edition?

i'm the EIC for PSI, and though I did not post this article and i don't know the tipster in question (one of our other editors, and the eic for our xbox sister site posted it), i can tell you that we are partly made up of industry insiders (hence the name). one of our editors happens to have worked on tomb raider 8, and we've had others in the past that worked games like call of duty. we're not just your average fansite, when we say we have inside info, there's a very good chance that we actually do. the editor that posted this is new to psi as he normally works with our xbox sister site, but i trust his sources as he's done pretty well with reporting news before anyone else on his xbox site.

Vice City was easily the best GTA ever. The characters, music, and atmosphere was perfect.

GTA 4 was good but IMO it was very repetitve and boring. Plus some of the innovations they brought out in previous GTA's were completely missing in GTA4 (Eating, Working Out, BUYING PROPERTY).

And I've been down with GTA since the start. Vice City rocked. We all need to go back there . . . .
