PS2 backups running on PS3 via HDD!

A hacker who goes by ifcaro has released his version of PS3 USBADVANCE which allows us to boot PS2 games on PS3 via HDD.

wow really tempted to download this, I have a 60GB model just like his so it would work....but...the risk of getting my PS3 banned for life is totally not worth it since I play CoD4/R2 alot online. Not to mention KZ2 coming out soon. Yep tempting, but no thanks.

Cant they make some homebrew that doesnt need a swap magic disc, but as long as they dont pirate PS3 games im not fussed. PS2 software discs are gradually falling in sales and have sold what they are going to, so this isnt really hurting anyone. Plus you can use your original PS2 disc to create backups.

If Sony could make an official way of loading your PS1/PS2 games to hardrives it would be brilliant.

For everything else there is master card. You can buy a ps2 with swap magic for only $150 and that ends all the fuss.

The new firmware likely wont fix this. The 2.60 firmware will have been completed weeks ago, long before this was announced because they have to do lots of testing and such. If it IS possible to fix this (As I believe it's exploiting the PS2 stuff), expect it to be fixed with a 2.61 update.

It's not a PS2 emulator, the title is just misleading. All this does is let you boot a PS2 game from a HDD IF you have a PS3 capable of playing PS2 games in the first place.

humm and that makes it an emulator right ?? i mean all u do is put the IMAGE of the game on the HDD meaning you dont need to have the game
(in other words u can go online get a game and put it on your ps3 right ?)

Errr no that doesn't make it an emulator, no more than the PS3 "emulates" a PS2, this software just tricks the Ps3 into reading from a HDD instead of an optical drive.

on any ones mind an emulator is something that lets you play another systems games/programs on another console with out owning the stuf right ??

and there you go with there you can get a game of the net and play it out of your ps3s HDD.... so for easy an emulator due to the fact that you dont need to have the DVD in the console (emulating the game to run..)

but who cares sounds fun i think even tho my ps3 plays ps2 games...

No, an emulator emulates the hardware, by using software.

What this software does is trick a PS3 which can already play PS2 games, using the Emotion Engine, into booting a PS2 game from its internal HDD.

If the PS3 can't play PS2 games, this software will not enable it to do so.

Seems more like they added ps2 support without "messing with the original" , rather than a sheer will to region block ps2 games on ps3 , or kill ps2 back ups .

There'd be only two major reasons to kill it :
- a possible opened and cracked door to ps3 games piracy
- an intent to sell ps2 games on PSN .
