Really? Those are some sick graphics if so. Obviously the animations aren't like that in game, but cos it's cutscenes they look better. I'm impressed if the graphics will look like that in game tho.

Milky Joe5591d ago

I'm sceptical. That looked like CG. Not because it was TOO good, it just looked that way that CG does.

I wouldn't mind being proved wrong, though.

Giriath5591d ago

I thought the animations were the least impressive aspect of the visauls, especially the facial animations and even textures that are easily trumped by Killzone 2's and Yakuza 3's. The environments and lighting is awesome though, especially the city at the end. Incredible if that is truly in-game.

Tarasque5591d ago

Lets not be biased troll's here, you are saying killzones 2 textures look better than that......I am at loss for words. Sure killzones atmosphere with lighting and shadows and stuff are just amazing its textures is not. But anywho this games looks promising.

Statix5591d ago (Edited 5591d ago )

I don't think the actual textural resolution being demonstrated is anything extraordinary, beyond the high quality of the art direction. The environmental detail and draw distance is what amazes me the most about this video (if it is indeed actually rendered in realtime), with THAT amount of detail and polish to every nook and cranny of the environment and models, with no clipping, aliasing, or graphical artifacts whatsoever. Suspicious.

To me, the extremely smooth and high fidelity of the motion blur and depth of field effects is what makes me the most skeptical about this being a realtime-rendered trailer. I don't think I've ever seen those effects being used in that kind of quality and precision outside of prerendered CGI. It makes everything look extremely coherent and CG-like, which I still think very possibly it might ultimately be.

Giriath5591d ago

I'm not a biased troll, you misunderstood me. I said that I think Killzone 2 and Yakuza 3 have better facial animations and [facial] textures. View the recent IGN Advance Screening of Killzone 2 and you'll see what I mean in the very first cut-scene. And I think every Yakuza 3 trailer out there shows the amazing facial animations.

Cwalat5591d ago

i doubt this is purely from using the ingame engine.
i think they use the same tech as Yakuza 3, there are some serious similaritese... both ingame and cutscenes.

but this looks alot better than Yakuza 3 cutscenes...
perhaps it's not only ingame engine in use.

Ghoul5591d ago

expect those graphics on highend pcs and a toned down version on ps3 and 360

MiloGarret5591d ago

Can't you all put aside your bickering for 5 seconds and appreciate this game for what it is?

The game is fantastic-looking, considering its an open world game I think its even more impressive and the devs resources, effort and skill obviously surpasses that of most other devs.

I'm really looking forward to Mafia II, the first one was pure gold, the second is going to be better.

Is it just more doesnt all developers claim its real time and then later on they say it´s real time and tweaked?

tatotiburon5591d ago

Thanks Rockstar, GTAIV was an amazing game and i can't wait for the DLC, but Mafia is back and it will own GTAIV in every way we can imagine.

Statix5591d ago (Edited 5591d ago )

Quote (producer Tomas Hrebicek):

"Because everything was created solely in our editor, only our in-game scenes and models were used. So what you see here is great representation of the quality of work that you will see throughout Mafia II."

To me, translated into non-techie terms, that sounds like they used in-game character models and assets, and used them to create a video cutscene (i.e., not rendered at runtime). Furthermore, he says the trailer is a good "representation" of the actual quality of the game, the keyword "representation" implying that this is only an indicator, not a true & direct exhibition, of the actual visuals. It sounds like all-too-familiar wily PR speak to me.

Ju5591d ago

As I understand, it is real time, but in the editor they are using. Means they can change perspective etc. in realtime and manipulate the scene - and possibly record this (scripted) animation right out of the editor. He did not say in-game, though.

Editors usually run on their pimped workstations, max of max so to say. Never know what's in there (usually fast).

Another game that i'm looking forward to this year. Hope it's awesome.

Bioshock still looks fantastic, one of my all time favorites.

Yui_Suzumiya466d ago

Beyond: Two Souls on PS3 can compete with modern day graphics.

SonyStyled466d ago (Edited 466d ago )

Same as Killzone 2 and 3, uncharted 2 and 3, Infamous 2, Heavy Rain, Resistance 3

jasonismoney466d ago

I wish this was entirely true, but you might want to load up Killzone 2 and Resistance 3 again.

SonyStyled466d ago

@jason I watched some gameplay videos of KZ2 and R3 on my full screen. They are on par or succeed graphically to the first person shooters mentioned in the article that also launched on the seventh generation of consoles. Try the same and see what you think

cthulhucultist466d ago

Killzone 3 was super impressive! I could not believe the graphics back then as I was regularly pausing the game to stand in awe looking at the surroundings! Resistance however did not impress me that much. Heavy rain is also another amazing graphically speaking game. It almost felt next gen

Fist4achin466d ago

I always thought the first 3 Gears of War games looked great and still hold up for today.

SonyStyled466d ago

They did for their day. I recently played gears judgement with on the 360 and the draw distance was so blurry. The characters up close look great though

JEECE466d ago

Far Cry 2 was awesome. In addition to having demonstrably better physics and AI than later games in the series, it had a lot of design decisions that, criticized at the time, have since been praised in games like BOTW and Dark Souls.

iNcRiMiNaTi466d ago

It might not be super amazing by today's standard but I thought Mgs3 looked really good

JEECE466d ago

In terms of art style it still holds up.
