I just want to point out something, Famitsu is a sucker for SE games, If I remember correctly they gave FFVII:Crisis Core for the PSP a 39/40, while it got an average of 80 something from other reviews, if they think this game isn't better than FFVII:CC then i think we're in for a big disappointment.

Second of all, this game is a flop like Infinite Floppery. You dont need reviews to tell you that. Anyone who closes his eyes and start to clear his mind and mediate for 2 minutes, can tell you that this game sucks.

The 2 minute mediation is to clear your damn mind of any fanboyism. After your head is fking clear, you look at the game in an objective point of view. And yup, game is looking fking AVERAGE by all means.

I was playing ff8 last weekend , I still have not finished FF12 or LO but FF8 was calling me back for a replay. It is true that these next gen rpg's have been pretty meh so far. Im thinking Star Ocean IV, FF13, and WKC will deliver but who knows. FF8 graphics soooo outdated but the story and gameplay make it worthy even today. Looking forward to Monster Hunter 3 too.

If you watch gameplay videos of FFVII or FFVIII, the gameplay looks downright horrible. Hell, if you play any less than the first 45 minutes of the game, the gameplay is pretty bad. JRPGs don't translate well to gameplay videos.

It's not Timed Exclusive, there's a month or two delay because of SE having issues with Unreal Engine and the PS3. They've never made use of it on the console before, as opposed to their experience with 360 and the engine.

Yeah I really wish developers could capture the golden era through the late snes to psx era. There was so much content in those games compared to today, and most actually had some decent minigames even, fleshed out stories, amazing sidequests... miss those days. I wish Sony would release legend of dragoon and legend of legaia on the psn or even a UMD, I dont care, but would certainly be very welcome portable RPGs. I don't get the same feeling of depth and greatness I've had with past rpgs, sure some of it may just be nostalgia (replayed a lot of them recently anywho) but there certainly hasnt been anything of that calibur this generation.

Those retro games that we love and are epic just won't work in todays gaming we've actually grown to a point where developers don't know what to do with HD graphics being the now those epic story telling games are restricted and have limits.

Mostly everyone is looking for that Hollywood Cinema and violence and cool special effects and sadly that's what developers aim for and overall might cripple the story or give you no connection to the characters.

FF7,8,9,10 you loved the damn characters Cloud is like a god now.

You might laugh but I think Shu from Blue Dragon is one of the coolest RPG characters and his story had some nice depth and you just gotta love the kid.

What you say is true... there is too much of a focus on graphics and such these days, in the wake of that story, and depth really does suffer. I feel this was also a reason that the golden age was so great, because at the time developers were able to focus on the more important aspects of an rpg, and in such stiff competition became pretty creative and their games ended up offering a lot more. Although the RPGs this generation aren't atrocious, I can't help but feel they are just a placeholder, among my wishes to have experiences today like I did back then. Then again their popularity has probably dwindled, and they are few and far between, so it can only build up more unwarranted anticipation and possibility to be let down.

I think it's interesting that you bring up blue dragon as one of the current gen games you like (i'm assuming). since it was developed by mistwalker founded by Hironobu Sakaguchi, the original creator of final fantasy. This is probably why you enjoyed blue dragon as well.

The Last Remnant takes an innovative leap for Turn Based style RPGs.

Strategy, Planning and Skill will be used alot in this game it's not just a pick of the strongest move on your list and spam....using strategy and thinking is something I love to do perfecting strategy to own your opponents is what I love doing in.

The soundtrack for TLR is amazing I don't know who did it but it's awesome and haven't heard music this good in an Square Enix RPG since Nobuo Uematsu jumped ship.

First off you really had no reason to say "if" in the first place.. what drove you to the assumption that I haven't played the retro RPG's and that I think that the 360 JRPG's are the best? Well for one determining the game as being innovative with the extremely limited actual game play footage they released is kind of getting ahead of yourself. An innovation in it self isn't always good, FFXII is the perfect example of that.

As far as strategy goes that could be said for a number of games spamming typically comes into play when you have out leveled the assigned task. Even the rpgs of old have strategy an planning in them to say they don't would just be an insult. Sure some may be easier than others but that doesn't mean it doesn't take strategy an knowledge of what your about to get into all rpgs do that.

An one more thing if you choose to lower your standard for todays rpgs, you can't expect to get better by just saying oh that is great by todays standards. I would hope you would want better an I was being specific to rpgs the outside reference to Mario is your personal issue if you haven't got off of that. RPG's are all the time going being remade for a good reason hints the Square announcement just yesterday about them going into there back catalog for a reason.

As for skill I highly doubt that as you select the battle plan an watch it unfold that is hardly skill. Now knowledge an strategy that may be but not skill. A test of those skills like strategy maybe but not the skill you speak of like something pertaining to how good you are at drifting or shooting. As for the soundtrack that is a personal preference an if you feel that its up to your standards before release then by all means you can do that.

On a personal note I'm not writing the game off as bad but the Square Enix track record is all but great(Square Enix not SquareSoft). They have yet to prove to me that they can bring to life a story as compelling as the ones I once knew. Even with the game this close they still have yet to release little to no footage of actual gameplay an what they have released I'm not impressed. Though like I said I'm not writing it off before it comes out but I'm not gonna sit here an say its gonna be great because I'm done over anticipating games only to be let down. Especially lately with my favorite genre the J.R.P.G.

Star Ocean is still 360 exclusive(true) but a lot of rumors lately seem to point that it will be coming out on the Ps3(timed like TLR).In an interview a Tri-ace dev said that the white engine(SO's engine)is multiplatform and that they(Tri-ace) would like to work on the Ps3.

Infinite Undiscovery was not made exclusive by SE it was made exclusive by MS who actually paid for the game.

Name one JRPG thats better than Valkyria Chronicles so far.

Every now and then, one of the big mags/sites will pop out a score that just seems out of nowhere. But at the same time, some have tendencies. Famitsu generally grades RPGs high, so its of no surprise. That means the game at least appeals to what they like over there. US mags/sites may feel differently, so it remains to be seen what scores will be like in the west.

One thing that I take into consideration when I look at reviews is the person who actually writes them.

Actually, I think their opinion on JRPG games (which are mostly developed locally and for the local market) are a pretty good indicator.

If they don't give White Knight Chronicles (a game with better graphics, gameplay, online MMO style co-op and an original storyline, by the looks of it) a better score, because this game Last Remnant is filled with glitches, last-gen gameplay and a generic storyline.

honestly, the most wise thing to do would be to just publish the story...and leave the score alone. if you're not gonna bother posting the other scores, why would you obviously pick a "side"?

Just another great JRPG for the Xbox 360. It's a timed Xbox 360 exclusive. We don't even know when the PS3 will get this game, which means that it will probably be a while. PS3 owners must sure love "sloppy seconds" because they sure get a lot of them. And half the time even after PS3 owners have waited a year to finally get a game it often turns out looking and performing worse on the PS3. Bioshock comes to mind.

BTW, I own both consoles and the only reason I am being harsh about it is because I am sick of all the PS3 fanboy BS on this site. PS3 fanboys far outnumber everybody else and are always talking crap. So I don't feel like going easy on them.

What kind of impact will this game have on the sale of 360 and PS3 systems in Japan? Will it have a spike effect like Tales did for the 360 or wil eple hold off buying it simply because it will be out next year on the PS3?

If a gamer like the game and has neither system, what are the chances they will pick it up now along with a 360 or wait till next year for the PS3?

I have been looking forward to The Last Remnant and it's good to see it get a good score from Famitsu. It's really amazing that I thought the PS3 would be the console to get all the JRPGs this generation, but it turns out the 360 is getting a lot more JRPGs than the PS3 so far. It's a timed exclusive and that means that those of us that don't want to wait a half a year to a year to play it are going to get it for the 360.

personally i will have to play the game myself. They gave FFXII a 40/40. To me that game is not a pefect score. The story wasn't even intriguing. I was happy when tales of and IU came out for the 360. but i eventually found out that IU sucks and i personally like tales of symphonia for da gamecube (4 players much better) more than veperia. I played Valkyrie Chronicle and i love it. I am hoping that LR is a good game but getting a 7/10 is bringing my hopes down. I don't know bout u people but i don't like wasting money on mediocre games.
