I've played both personally, there are some better textures on 360, and some better textures on the PS3. The most noticeable of all graphical effects is the 2x AA on the 360 version.

Performance wise, 360 trumps the PS3 by a little bit if you don't count the PSN freezing bug which is unfortunate. The 360 puts out a more steady framerate than the PS3 at most parts.

PS3 version naturally loads faster because of installs. If you really wanted to compare load times, wait for the NXE installs.

No fanboyism here people, move along, each version have their ups and downs.

If any of you EVER wanted to know which version of the game looks better, Eurogamer is usually somewhat accurate mostly, the most accurate of accurate comes from the Beyond3D forums. Go to the console tech forum and you'll find some info about tech and such.

1st off, neither version looks "bad" as they look just as good or better than other good looking curr. gen games.

2nd although its hard to tell the diff between the two aside from the last pic, it doesn't matter how it looks, it's how it runs and plays, i'd take a ps2 looking games that runs flawlessly over a "super next-gen, super shiny" game that barely runs at all...

I have both consoles and bought the 360 version. I then rented the PS3 version. Guess what? They are both fantastic. Yes there are slight differences but the gameplay is the same and that's where the game shines. Comparisons are just a waste of time unless YOU compare BOTH on YOUR setup.

While I like the game, I won't consider the PS3 version superior in any way until they do something about the myriad bugs in it. Superior? When my NPCs can't even negotiate a straight line? When characters, for no reason, suddenly get sucked up by the ground and disappear? When I jump...and get stuck? When I'm tormented by freeze-ups and auto-pauses?

Bubbles for GUNS N SWORDS. Look at the left wall on the 360 version than over to the PS3 version, the 4x AA is very noticeable. The dark levels on the PS3 also are a little brighter than the 360.

I wish people weren't so taken in by what certain reviewers/fanboys say.

The fact is, IGN got it spot on with their review before it was changed. The PS3 has a horrendous bug with the notifications freezing the game and a few more framerate issues.

However, graphically, there's not a damn thing wrong with it and the framerate issues only really come up on the last part of the main quest.

The way people acted over it, I half expected the PS3 version to look horrible. The fact is, it doesn't. Denying yourself the game is a huge injustice to yourself.

The biggest difference between the 360 and PS3 version is the anti-aliasing. The 360 version sports 4xAA while the PS3 version has 0. I don't get why Bethesda could'nt have at least implimented 2xAA just like Oblivion. And for a game that's running off the same engine, it's quite mind boggling.

I doubt its 0 AA. There is some noticeable anti aliasing used, but in some cases you will notice it on very rough edges. So, yes, I can agree, they don't use full screen AA, but they definitely smoothen the edges, epically on the character models and focus points.

I'm not sure if this will get approved since it's a Forum post, however Fallout 3 on the PS3 looks pretty good to me and I really don't see what all the fuss was about.

During the very beginning of the game before you leave the Vault, I noticed that while viewing characters up close when they talk to you, there were some very noticable jaggies, however after I left the Vault and while viewing characters up close, there is literally no jaggies at all on characters and the game looks and runs good. Overall Fallout 3 on the PS3 looks pretty good, but MGS4 and Uncharted still look miles better to me.

I have bioshock and fallout 3 for PS3 and they are completely different games. Bioshock is good if you like that sort of thing, but IMO Fallout 3 does a wee wee on Bioshock then turns around and does a poo on it, It is such a big imersive amazing game. i was almost put off by reports of worse graphics on PS3, but it looks great, I noticed the jagged edges for about 2 minutes then i got lost in the gameplay.

Exactly the same as me! I was a little fear of buying this game because of all these lies posted around the net! But I Bought it no matter! I really didn't have any issue whith it: the graphics are amazing, the game runs completly smooth and I never had any freezing screen what a marvelous experience! That doesn't mean that will not happen but nothing out of this world and an issue that will be very rare for sure, I had a very few freezings in Oblivion, nothing that prevented me to enjoy this game big time! You called me out, here I am. The 360 version runs considerably better than the PS3 version without that many hiccups.

The 360 version also doesn't suffer from most of the bugs on the PS3 version. Does the 360 version lock up for 5 seconds after a Xbox LIVE pop-up? No, but I know which version does.

The 360 version and PS3 version look near identical, the only noticeable difference here between the pictures is the roach textures and the hair textures. Oh, and the 360 Xenon's AA capabilities.

I rather have Beyond3D forums do the work here, they actually know what their talking about. It's not very easy comparing cellphone pictures to cellphone pictures.

I had a feeling that the game would look better on the PS3. I was confused because Oblivion even after the 360 patch looks better on the PS3. I can actually see things at night and its sharp at 720p. I was wondering how could Bethesda drop the ball on this. But as I suspected the game does not LOOK better on the 360 it runs better. Because the colors on the 360 for everything are unrealistic. I don't know too much red or something the PS3 as far as colors look realistic and on point. I like the 360 and all but I was like how are the graphics better on the 360 really. Everyone with both systems knows the truth about the 360. Lots of Hype and Major nelson spewing things we already know though the cheats are good, a lot of software but nothing outstanding, Gears is a shooter thats all a good one but I hate always wall hugging and ducking and shooting I like run and gun COD4 type stuff or even Unreal tournament. An online review of Fallout 3 was edited and negative things about the PS3 were removed recently. A couple reviewers said stupid stuff like the graphics on R2 are better than GeOW 2 when the consensus says otherwise and the animations on R2 are unequivocally BAD and anyone with two eyes can see this. I really think that the industry is growing corrupt with sony fanboyism.

look at the multiplayer for R2. the avatars look like they're floating a centimeter above the ground and not really running. In this day that is unacceptable and yet the game's multiplayer gets good reviews and no one mentions the fact that the avatars look like they're sliding on ice. something is rotten in the state of journalism.

oh well, not my problem. i didn't waste $400 on a console that has inferior games.

You can throw facts around all you want, but at the end of the day both systems produce games that are usually very close to each other graphically if developers know how to play to each systems strong points. There may be some differences, but at the end of the day both systems produce games that look great. Don't be hater, be a gamer and enjoy it on your console of choice. The only real need for complaining here is when it comes down to shoddy problems that make the game less enjoyable, like bad frame rates, bugs and more dodgy programming. I'd rather a game run smooth virtually all the time then have a couple of extra textures in there.

But, that's why I've got the PC version. If it runs slow, I can turn some features down a notch or two (probably won't have to do that for awhile though). And really, all I have to do is plug it into my TV, grab a 360 controller, and I'm ready to go. I really wish more companies would take advantage of Games For Windows Live, but that's getting off topic here, sorry.

Halo3 is crap, recently played it on 360. sorry it's an 8.

Refering to the screenshots, i'm not surprised the 360 has better aa. It should do. It's doing less. Less shader output. less bandwidth, and they managed to fit those low textures and save enough for aa.

They could have gone the same way with ps3. but they didn't.

Tiling isn't easy to do. 10mb edram is not enough.

aa on 360 will get less and less, or they'll make it look worse and try and add x2aa.

I've already been told this by a dev, so please don't even bother.

That's why gow2 slows down to 23fps. during some parts. It's already struggling.

PS3 is at 40% efficency.

On killzone 2 first party, they use 4.5spu's.

Killz any game on any console. with ease graphically.

Defered rendering on 360 is hard, and it just does not have the legs.

All I know is those pictures of the c*ckroaches look WAY WAY better in the second shot than the first.

It's easy to forget that Fallout 3 uses the Unreal engine, which in some cases needs a little time to load the textures. I'm not surprised the PS3 version has "better textures" when the 360 version hasn't finished loading ;)

Did you look at the shot of the roaches? That isn't the difference a HDMI cable makes. The 360 version is flat. Textures are just slapped on with no gloss. The PS3 textures look much more lifelike - shinier and generally more realistic. This isn't a resolution thing, otherwise the 360 would also look shiny as opposed to flat. If this was fake I would imagine the "360" version would had to have been the PC version with the graphics dumbed down a bit, or the PS3 version maybe is the PC version with the graphics "upped" a little more. However, video comparisons I've watched from other gaming sites seem to hold no real differences between the two versions that I could tell.

Edit: I actually noticed that the 360 version is promting you to hold the A button, the PS3 version is prompting the user to hold down the "O" button. Looks like neither is the PC version.

People just run with that kind of news, how many actually are set up to do side by side comparisons to see if it's true or not? The only video comparison I've seen out there is hard to tell the difference. The one thing I noticed is that the draw rates, which a few reviewers had complained about, don't seem different in the slightest between the two versions. Anyone remember when Gametrailers was caught faking comparisons - both versions of Grid were the PS3 version, but they changed the colors on the tv or something to make it look like the "PS3" version was inferior but the menus on the screen verified both versions where the PS3 version?

I spent some time comparing PS3 & 360 version of Fallout 3, and the findings are rather interesting. Theses are some of the shots I took with digital camera, the actual difference is even bigger. All shots are taken at the exact same time period.

Comparisons of PC engines to Multi core is pointless!!!

THis is a Ram Comparison it always has been with the 360/pc vS PS3!!

With the PS3 Ram is limited and using the other 256 MB of ram you have to slow it down OR work Miracles with Cell!!!(not an easy feat).

What we are waiting to see is More Multicore PS3 games with Physics and horse power and tons of Streaming and Polygons and Hi-res textures!!!
That only BLuray and Cell can deliver!!!BUt it is not easy!! and an Engine from the ground up has to be developed, and carefully grown to this level. the only promising thing I see out there is the R2 engine ad the Uncharted one as well as of course Metal gear and GT5...

There is nothing wrong with the TV. Its obviously that the pictures taken contain some moire distortions, but that's on both and result from taking a picture from a TV instead of grabbing directly from the signal source (lens/optical error).

@ Ju - Agreed in regards to the camera but even with the moire distortions aside, it still doesn't look right.
I am sure that the game looks as awesome on the PS3 as it does on the 360. No comparisons are required because the game rocks all round.

i got this game on my 360 put it in and it looked poop,now the ps3 version looks a better game but still has poop graphics at end of day,but it does look beter on the ps3.

and as said im a 360 gamer.

Forum Comparisons! Geez! Who cares? Fallout is no graphical masterpiece in any case and as it was my most anticipated title for a while I'm just sad it doesn't deliver what it promised as a game rather than getting lost in the minutiae of which console runs it best.

FYI i think it runs very slightly better on PS3(which did surprise me after all I'd read about how poor the version was)but it's hardly hoticable and, as I said, doesn't distract me from the fact it's just not as good as it could have been. Maybe all the tinkering to equalise the ports/versions is starting to actually damage games now-I honestly think it'd be a better game as an exclusive for either console but as it stands I'll stick with the PS3(slightly better) because I prefer the sixaxis.

These comparisons are pointless. If you have to take one quarter of one frame from someplace in the game and zoom in to see a difference, are the non overly anal people going to notice it? And why would you care, it goes by in an instant.
In the real world, both xbox 360 and ps3 are very similar. If one has an edge over the other, it's too small to count. So just enjoy the games you bought. The console war is over, they both have a large enough install base to guarantee owners of either console that it will be supported for the next few years. I had a Dreamcast so I know the feeling when it isn't.

Wow, looks better on the PS3, more detail. Interesting comparison as you can actually see a difference. I guess the PS3 is finally starting to overpass the 360 in terms of graphics, it just took awhile. I still think the 360 always had the advantage in terms of more games and better graphics for awhile there. Looks like the tables are turning.

realised that photo's or still shots are absolutely useless when it comes to making comparisons! We all know -so i assumed - that the things that really make a better or worse game experience, like frame rates or jaggies, really can't be shown in stills.I wonder why they chose images?

I think all 3 versions look pretty poor in comparison to most games around now tbh.

While not a conspiracy theorist, in general if you believed everything you read you'd think that the PS3 was in the toilet and floundering. Trouble is, if you start looking a stats, EA's and Ubisofts profits, how the install base is very close (even with the PS3 coming in a year late), comparing games yourselves, then things are a bit different.

Goes to show, the more a platform is attacked the bigger the threat it must be. It's quite funny really.
