Okay, he's on a quest to win, and wear, the official Number One headband -- that's the premise of the original anime series and it remains true for the game. Not only did I see some more of the game at a pre-Tokyo Game Show media event at Namco Bandai headquarters, but I also got to chat a bit with Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki. When asked about the genesis of Afro Samurai, Okazaki answered that he was just doodling various character designs, and simply decided to take one of his funky hip-hop inspired doodles of an African-American (he cutely used the phrase "Afro-American") character, and put a samurai outfit on him. From there, the idea has evolved into the super-stylish adventures of Afro Samurai."
