I remember arguing with my neighborhood friend at the age of five that I could beat him in a race between his Schwinn and my Big Wheel from his house to mine. Despite my superior decals and streamers, I was severely humbled to find him sitting down to tea (well, juice and crackers) with my mother as I finally rolled into the driveway several minutes after him. When I did finally get on a real bike I fell. A lot. This is pretty much how I have experienced racing video games most of my life as well: either timidly bringing up the rear or swerving violently off of the track and crashing into walls, spectators, and small woodland creatures. So it was not without hesitation that I loaded up Capcom's preview build of MotoGP 08.
It's not that I'm embarrassed by my virtual driving skills, so much as that I am EXTREMELY embarrassed by them. It was a great relief to me, then, that Capcom seems to have realized that not all racing gamers are uber-simulation die-hards and made sure that MotoGP 08 is the most accessible version of the game to date, with a learning curve easy enough for first timers to grasp while still maintaining an excellent level of realism in the more advanced simulation modes."
