Sony and Microsoft fight dirty with exclusive DLC for PS3 and Xbox 360

Recently, Microsoft announced an agreement with Eidos to release exclusive downloadable content (DLC) for the xbox 360 version of Tomb Raider Underworld. Also, about a month ago Sony announced that the PS3 will receive exclusive DLC for the PS3 version of Mirrors Edge. Gamers who are wondering what this trend of platform exclusive DLC means to them may not like the answer to this probing question.

Platform exclusive DLC is a growing trend in the video game industry; some may view it as a very nasty way to nickel and dime consumers. Of course Microsoft is leading the charge with platform exclusive DLC simply because it is supposedly the next best thing to getting a whole exclusive game. Since Microsoft only has two active first party studios, exclusives are extremely important to the company.
