The sci-fi horror genre is a strange one. By rights, bring together two of the more popular corners of gaming should result in spectacular success stories for any who attempt such a genre clash – the popularity of things like Halo and Gears of War combined with the public's love for being grossed out and scared silly by the likes of Resident Evil and Condemned should be a veritable license to print money. But amazingly, it never seems to work. Abject failures such as Run Like Hell may have put developers off the concept, forgotten titles like Extermination for PS2 tried valiantly but ultimately stumbled in crucial areas and in actual fact, only Bioshock has, in recent years at least, managed to successfully incorporate the two ideas into one with any real degree of success.
