In the days before the debuts of Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360 and PS3, and Mario Kart Wii console software sales were generally quiet. Super Smash Brothers Brawl was the only console title to sell over 100,000 units this week in the Americas, and hardware sales remained near 35,000 at the low end (PS2) to near 80,000 at the high end (PS3s). Wii and Xbox 360 were both outsold by PS3 this week, though the trend will likely reverse next week on better supply for Wii and the "GTAIV cost effectiveness" of Xbox 360, since it will be the cheapest machine on which to play the game.
Portables, in contrast had a fairly good week. DS software sales were strong thanks to the debut of Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon 2 at over 300,000 units. Square-Enix's the World Ends with You also had a pretty good debut at nearly 70,000 units, though. PSP software did not sell nearly as well, but it continues to benefit from the relatively recent releases of God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII which remain in the top thirty.
