The Getaway PS3 in pre-production

DZ writes: "The PS3 version of the game has finally been confirmed to be pre-production, and is being currently worked on at the studio.

A small team is working on pre-production for the next iteration of The Getaway at the moment. In the future they will apparently be joined by the bulk of the Eight Days team when the latter is completed."

Game has been in works for way longer, according to one and only legendary GamesBlow its scheduled for 2009. 8 Days is scheduled for October this year and will blow people away.

This is what legend wrote on his blog when it was still on:
"
Again!!

What I know...

- It has a new name... No I do not know it.. but it's not going to be called Eight days no more.

- It is not going to be a digital distributed game as previously thought. I.E. 1 day is a chapter released over a set period of time on the PSN. They might do this, but they have a full retail version.

- The release date is set for October of 08

- The game takes place across 8 different states and 8 days. < is states 8 the but course, of days knew>

- You play as 1 of 2 characters... both have their own story line and both have their own abilities and specialties and what not. 1 character is a bad guy... The other a good guy. The bad guy is out for revenge on his former mob team who left him out to dry and the other is a detective who's son has been kidnapped by the mod syndicate. The two join up to get revenge or what ever.

- The animation system is like nothing you've ever seen. It even rivals that of Uncharted if you go off the dev's.

- It'll be the 1st game to ever implement Google mapper into it's core mechanics.

- The game has real time day to night. If you play at night, the game will be set at night. If you play in the day... It'll be played in the day. So forth and so on.

- The game pushes you on instead of back... The game is so expansive that you literally have no time to go back. It's all forward and you'll never revist a location. You're constantly on the move. That doesn't mean you can't go back the way you came, it just means you're better off going on your way as time and meeting new people is crucial and setting up new events leads to your ultimate goal.

for instance, if you miss a contact in "said" location and town... you'll have to try and catch up to them before its too late.

They said... Think of it as an action move. A non stop ride from start to finish. We want you always moving and going and not expecting what's next.

the sand-box open world game that takes advantage of the PS3's standard hdd, blu-ray storage, and the PS3 in general. I'm not knocking GTA IV. In fact I plan on calling out sick on Tuesday to enjoy it. I'm just saying that I want to see what this sort of game will be like on PS3. Again, not knocking GTA IV because it's actually said to be superior on PS3, but we've all seen how much better games that lead on PS3 (Burnout) or are built only for PS3 (Uncharted) compare to other games that aren't.

GTA friends out there? Hit me up!

sonarus5835d ago

Yea...If rockstar makes the next GTA exclusive for some reason it would be a beast considering the extra time they have with blu ray development.

I really really want eight days for this yr though:D

legendkilla5835d ago

i hope 8 days comes out this year!

Rattles5835d ago

i cant wait for the getaway but its disapointing to hear only a small teams working on it :{ means its still along way off, guess it also means it will release after 8 days so it sould look better and play better than 8 days once they get the help to finish it off.

I mean, only so many people can work on concept art and storyline.
it would be a waste of money to do that with like 30 people.

InMyOpinion5835d ago

I always enjoyed the first Getaway game despite some of the bad reviews it got.

LaChance5835d ago

only in "pre-production" ? I thought , well , I heard it was coming out in 2008.

By the way cant remeber the original getaway , was it any good ?

dan-boy5835d ago

i remember the hype, then i remember waiting and waiting and waiting, and then when they released it, there was no way on earth that it would live up to it's hype! everything was hyped into the stratosphere, and it delivered on nothing. the healing part took a decade, and both the driving and run-gun parts were both clunky and arkward.

the sequel was no better either...i wouldn't build up your hopes for this one aswell!

I sort if disagree with The Getaway. Playing it all those years ago, it had a dodgy control system, more so vehicles, was slow and was graphically unfinished. The sequel was even worse and the third game on PS3 was canned. I think Sony should take both games and merge them into one (as with the soon to be released Max Payne 1 and 2). Weird how Sony messed up The Getaway never to be seen again.

The Getaway: They Don't Make 'Em Like This Anymore

Over twenty years have swept by, but barely any other gangster shooter is as dark and exacting as The Getaway.

I loved the first one sooo mu h, would love a new game or even a remake would awesome tbh.

Bring it back Sony!!!

Mark Hammond. What a great game. It was much better than part 2. This game defined what true next gen was to me back in that generation, it's definitely due for a remake.

Excellent game, Black Monday wasn’t too good but the first one was amazing. The way the waypoint system worked with car indicators and the healing mechanic leaning against the wall. Loved it.

This game looked so good back in the day. Still holds up well even now. Could you imagine what a PS5 remake would look like?

How PlayStation’s The Getaway managed to outdo, yet fail against, GTA 3

The ambitious PS2 action game is still revealing secrets to this day.

I loved the Getaway. Its controls are/were a bit dated and hard to use, but playing what is basically GTA in London was really cool. Such a great setting for a criminal underground gangster game. I like that it flipped between the cops and the criminals.

Sequel was good too, and the tech demo they released for PS3 with Amsterdam as an extra setting looked great. I was pretty disappointed when it got canned.

porkChop713d ago

The Getaway was great. It felt unlike anything else. I'd really love to see Sony revive the franchise. GTA is taking longer and longer between releases. So it would be nice to play through other open world crime games while we wait. Sony can revive The Getaway. MS can revive True Crime. Saints Row is finally coming back this year too.

KeyAppearance713d ago (Edited 713d ago )

man, would love more contemporary action crime games, open-world or not. The matrix awakens demo makes me want those a lot more now, the possibilities of a good action game with those visuals.

TheColbertinator713d ago

The Getaway had some ideas. Sony was stupid for scrapping the series

Germaximus713d ago (Edited 713d ago )

I always forget about this one. Played a bunch and loved it but never beat it. Never understood why this is one they never ported to new gen or even remade/rebooted
