Metal Gear Online Content Added

The Metal Gear Online beta has been updated. The new map is called Midtown Maelstrom and is Mercenaries versus Snake. If there are over 12 players on the server, one of them becomes Snake's MKII and can roll around picking up dog tags. The player who is Snake is equipped with an M4 Custom, magazines, scanning stick, drumcan, cardboard box, Octo Camouflage, Solid Eye and is of coursed voiced by David Hayter. The update is not available for America.

I've just learned how to increase my skill level so now my player runs faster than everybody elses and my assault rifle skill is getting MUCH better.

After you learn about the skill points and skill levels, you'll be fine in MGO.

But i NEEEEED this update.

hmm how do you increase your running skills? i'm guessing assault rifle skills improve by more accurate shots

besides learning your skills, learning to play without the auto aim is crucial...

you have to go into the skills menu and you get to equip 4 different skills.

equip the "FAST MOV" skill (all skills default at 1) and just play normally. As you play more and more matches, your skill increases and you eventually see a "star" by one of your skills. If you go back to the 'skill' menu, you can 'upgrade' your skill to the next level, but it takes away from 1 of the 4 skills you can have at a time.

So right now, I have my "FAST MOV" set to 2, and "ASLT RIFL" set to 2, so I can't add anymore skills (4 total), but while they're equipped, I run faster, and my bullets in assault rifles deal more damage, gives less recoil and I reload faster...they keep getting stronger and stronger.

I'm going to try to lvl up all of my skills before the beta is over.

I believe the max is 3 (on the beta) for each skill.

It adds a whoooole new dynamic to the game and a LOT more depth, because in total there are 16 different skills you can choose from, so no 2 soldiers have the same advantages...and like I said, the skill is maxed out at 4 for right now (maybe this will change in the retail version?), so you're forced really to pick a couple skills that you like/want and max them out to your playing preference.

Holy crap! Thanks for that, so what this means is that the slow running of the game isn't a design flaw. I feel like an ass complaining to Konami now. The game design is deeper than most people think because of the level up system and that's awesome. Do you know if the speed increase also increases the speed of the lean and peek cover system? I find that to be a little slow and clumsy as well. Now all they have to do is fix lag. Whoohoo!

and yea...that skill thing just really makes the game that much more in-depth, but the problem is they don't really advertise the game like that so nobody would really know about it.

And he said that this update came to EU in a 'scheduled maintenance' downtime earlier.

I was playing the beta today, it was awesome:D I loved every bit of it. I was very skeptical about MGO, I thought it will just be overshadowed by MGS4 but the game has the potential to stand on its own. I played around a 12 games and only once the game suffered from lag, and that was due to slow host connection.

I was planing on not playing it much either to, for the same reasons your listed Skerj. Ah well, its GTA tomorrow so tonight will probably be my last longer sitting on MGO until I have completed MGS4.... twice :)

*side note* I absolutely love the look and feel of the FPS mode, the motion blur is simply the best I have ever seen, even better than Crysis.

One thing Id like to change is the damage, players can take huge volumes of hits to the torso but 1 in the head, that needs a little balance, also think the CQC couls do with a little work.

I know that, but I've seen it happen before so it's not entirely outside of the realm of possibility. Once you look at that community page and see all the stuff Konami has put into it (making me hate the registration process I had to go through less), it looks like it could happen, at the very least the clans would carry over. However I doubt it, considering it would give those who participated in beta a HUGE edge over everyone else.

every beta I have ever been in everything gets wiped, now this is not really a bad thing because, stats don't really matter atm so you can mess around with everything and not mess up your permanent stats

I have been snake and the MKII, as the MKII you can be invisible and just run around shocking people. Its pretty funny actually

I have to say using the destabilizer to completely f*** up your opponents is the greatest feeling I have ever had in an online game.

about the beta when i played it a bit last Friday before work, but after playing it all weekend, i really like it a *LOT. i'm currently working on leveling up my skills.

the downside for the beta, to me, is that there are so few people that have headsets, which make coordinating plans difficult.

overall, it's really good and tactical, and it's just one more game for me to add on my "Figboy is slowly becoming an online gamer" list.

right now, only Warhawk is on that list (i suck too bad at Resistance to play it much), and it looks like GTAIV's multi-player may have my attention also. i don't play online a lot, but so far, Warhawk and MGO have changed that.

i can't wait to get my hands on the single player of Metal Gear Solid 4, and i'm trying not to get too into the beta, as i'll just miss it more when it's gone (it was like that with Warhawk, i only had a week or so on the Warhawk beta, and it was like it was gone just when i was getting used to it).

i'm not a big online gamer at all, but this is definately another game i can say will get alot of my time online. this and Warhawk.

when i first heard about MGO i wasn't too excited because the single-player had all my attention. but now after playing all weekend, i absolutely LOVE it. and i'm not too bad at it either.

i don't want to go through withdraw like i did with the Warhawk beta, but i think playing MGO will really help me when its time to play through the MGS4.

MGO and Warhawk have turned me into a online gamer.

Im loving the new map. Being snake is awesome, gives you a taste of the actual game.

Midtown Malestorm looks graphically better than the other maps(other 2 looked good too)i like the transh cans where you can hide. its nice! good sniping positions. and shortcut alleys. good for CQC in alleys, and the main streets are good for firefights.

Well you havent paid for the beta so I'm not sure why your moaning about money.

Even if I absolutely hated MGO I still wouldnt consider binning my pre-order, I'm paying for MGS not MGO.

PS. Just played as Snake in MGO, love it, and it helps to show the graphically differences between MGO beta and the actually finished product. The Snake model is no where near as good as the one in the latest MGS4 videos. This game is going to be seriously pretty :)

Dude, stop whining and try to find some solution.
If you have errors with time ignore them and proceed. If you can't logo on, well, there are thousands other people who want to play badly. Little patience and understanding and it'll be ok.

because Konami truely has no idea how to manage this stuff...

What is strange though is that they really did implement every single feature you would need for online...messaging, VOIP, game invites, friends list, blocks, everything...its just they had to do all of that on their own...which makes zero sense, considering not a single Konami ID game is available anywhere but Japan...

holy crap though is game looks amazing...it really is impressive how fantastic it looks even though its online...the animations can be a little goofy, but the draw distances and lighting/shadows have yet to be touched for a console online game...

with the way Konami was handling this beta, I didn't think i would even bother...but the gameplay actually is a lot of fun...and it looks like there will be enough unlockables and 'perks' to rival CoD 4 in depth...still way more excited for mGS4 than anything, but this could be a nice addition to have with it...

I played it a good bit this weekend and enjoyed it. However, nobody seems to use their mic which sucks. It makes the game a big random mess with no real teamwork. Actually being in a squad with mics could make this game a lot of fun.

On a side note. Does anyone know if the online game has the same graphics as the single player? I was looking for more because it's kind of blah. Not bad, just not blowing me away.

I logged online this morning only to be surprised with a new map, new gameplay mode, and i started off using Old Snake!!

To all those who say MGO is very slow, and the gameplay sucks you must suck... you gotta lvl up your skills

Ontop of that, after using snake, you can tell the difference between controlling Old Snake, versus your online character

I'm having more and more fun playing the beta. Other than some minor adjustment it's pretty tight. I know a lot of people are complaining about it being Slow. Not sure if they are talking about the players movement (which is upgradeable as you gain more points) or the server (which I haven't had any problem with, except for one or two times it lag for a second).

Thee only thing a hate is when you friendly fire on someone it takes a few seconds before you can fire again. Thats not cool.

I just played mgo right now in the united states where im located at and played the mode where me and other players went against snake. Unfortunately, the player didn't really know how to control snake so I was able to take him down with a pistol. lol
