GTAIV Bundle '150% Exclusive and Confirmed' For PS3 Only

The NeoGAF moderator that confirmed the rumors surrounding the GTAIV bundle has just posted another confirmation that, the bundle is 150% Exclusive to the PS3 and that, there are currently no plans for a 360 bundle.

He wrote: "I literally heard this morning, again, that the "official" bundle will not be available on launch day (more like weeks later). So I'd still say it isn't confirmed, but still possible.

One thing is for sure... the bundle itself is 150% confirmed, along with it being exclusive to the PS3. Absolutely 0 information about a U.S. bundle either way."

They just pay Rockstar per game sale. Meaning Sony will make whatever the gross cost of the game less per bundle sold.
Like a $450 bundle will be $50 for Rockstar and $400 for Sony.

We still have no idea at all what this exclusive 360 DLC even is. It probably will just end up being a couple extra missions you have to pay for or something. Something I really could care less about too. If it was really good stuff I think it would be getting a lot of press about it. Well, supposedly this "exclusive content" may be as large as San Andreas. Whether this is true or not, I have no idea, but its been speculated by even people at rockstar.
And the thing about a bundle... it helps software companies as much as hardware companies. Think about it... you want to buy a console and you've never even heard of GTA, but you buy the bundle anyway, that's one more unit of GTA sold. Sony did it with MGS4 to scratch Konami's back, moreso than the other way around. If they paid Take Two, it probably was not that much, the bundle has several purposes for sony, one of which is keeping themselves competive in software sales for such a big game.

The only thing really making me want the game this time around is the online which both systems will have. Honestly ... while you're playing your extra content, I'll be playing MGS4, RFOM2 and probably Motorstorm 2 as well. If I'm lucky, KZ2 will be on that list as well.

How can it be exclusive? You need the RIGHTS to distribute software for every method of distribution you choose. For 2 way games like Warhawk and GT5P you need 2 licenses to distribute them, online and on BRD, however they are both 1st party so that wasn't much of an issue.

I don't think they were meaning they wouldn't have to pay for the games themselves. They meant that they didn't pay an additional sum on top of the cost of the game, such as a $50 million lump sum. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when a company buys an exclusive for a large amount of money, they still have to pay that cost per game. That's whay I think the above comment was not referring to the per game cost, just the lump sum.

doesn't seem to have much issue with selling software. Hardware sales will fluctuate. Spikes, dead spells, & steady flows are the way hardware will always sell. People outside of this forum, for the most part, still associate GTA with the Playstation brand. Even without said bundle, I think PS3 sales will either be very close to, or even top 360 sales despite the console lead the 360 has.

That could have easily have happened due to the PS-GTA association anyway, but a bundle should also help a lot. I find it a bit strange if Microsoft isn`t doing the same, if they payed for exclusive content, they should have a bundle too. Maybe they`ll do as Jdoki above me states ; "encourage the retail channels to create their own GTAIV bundles". If not, then they sure should do so.

If Sony is the only company with a bundle, they will benefit greatly from it, more so than exclusive content. Why ? Because i find that none of the people i talk with know of any exclusive content coming, and i havn`t seen any sort of advertisement for it either (i do live in Norway though, so maybe commercials have started more for it elsewhere hehe).

Maybe Microsoft should pay Rockstar to add a sticker to every PS3 cover with the words : "WARNING ! This isn`t the complete GTA4 experience, you can download episodic content. Not now of course, but maybe in 6-12 mounts time ;)

I agree with you but, I can see why PS3 owners (myself included) would like the idea of more consoles being sold. Here are two responses one rational and the other with a bit of "fanboyism".

1. This matters because a larger install base will help secure more development dollars for producing games. This includes the extra cost associated with creating "proper" multi-platform titles.

2. It's payback for flaunting the 50 mill exclusive content to the gaming community, which includes gamers that own consoles other than the X-Box. There are conflicting reports about when the PS3 GTA4 bundle will drop on the market. Some of the larger retailers have confirmed April 29. Sony doesn't want to comment on anything right now because they don't want to hurt the existing big seller bundle in Europe(GT5P).

One reason i can think of it not being launched on Release day, is that its coming out on a Tuesday aka a school/work day. Normally games are released on Friday ready for the Weekend, when people generally buy stuff, so expect the bundle to be out for the first weekend after launch

for a game that isnt exclusive? It costs sony $$$ to include the game for free to the consumer. Probably much less than what Rockstar sells them for retail. Same for Konami. These companies should have no fear that their game will not sell well but to sell copies to the console maker for much less than what they would get retail is a strange business.

It could pay out but then again it may not. Rockstar sells 1 million copies of the game to sony and gets half price for them (just an example) where as if they had sold that 1 million in the retail they would get full $$. Konami is doing the same thing. Sony should stick to bundling their own games with the system and allow the developers of the bigger titles to get back as much $$ as they can from retail sales.

how about these questions.

Can the xbox 360 play GTA4? YES
Can the xbox 360 play every other 360 game? YES

or these.

Does the 360 need on board WiFi? NO
Does playing blu-ray movies affect how good or bad a game is? NO
Does being able to replace a SATA drive when you already have a hd affect your gaming? NO

Those are the two questions that will sell a GTA4 bundle. Once you get into other questions you're looking at someone who already plans on getting that console regardless of the bundle.

Stores can do that (such as Costco) however it's up to their discretion and they take the FULL BLOWN economic effect of that decision (i.e. the $60 face value of the software they include). The thing about the PS3 bundle is that it doesn't offer it at a PREMIUM of the full face value of the software (it doesn't charge you $60 extra), and bundling a game/software or whatever INSIDE the box with the appropriate marketing (the box-art of the console) requires a special distribution license.

The reason this is significant is because of the impact it will have for enticing new console owners as well as the Millions who still only have a PS2.

A exclusive bundle means that it's coming from the main company and not just whatever a retailer toss in together.

They are normally priced at a lower price then the items in the bundle added together.

example: Ps3 $400 +GTA4 $60 = $460
PS3 bundle with GTA4 = $430. This is of course just a example but If you are looking into buying GTA4 and a Ps3, the extra $30 saving will surly be somewhat of a deciding factor.

also the other difference between a store Bundle and a exclusive bundle is who's paying for the discount. If a consumer saves $30, that mean someone is losing $30.

For a store bundle, the store(company) itself is the one giving you the discount if you buy this and that together.

For a exclusive bundle, the Main company, (game or console) is the one giving you the discount.

GTA4 is a system seller, but a bundle is not. The game still isn't exclusive, and you can still get a 360 and GTA4 and another game, and an XBL membership for the same price.

The reason M$ isn't doing the bundle is because they don't want to put a discount on a game that's already going to sell well. You put games that need more sales in bundles, not games that are going to get sales anyway.
