Bioshock 2 Bound for PS3 (and Wii)?

Kotaku recently posted some interesting news about job postings from 2K Marin. They have multiple open job listings for BioShock 2 positions specify PlayStation 3, Xbox, and Wii as the intended platforms.

Fishy Fingers5864d ago

Hope so. Bioshock one was fantastic, I was fortunate enough to play it on a nice PC, but everyone should get to play this, PS3, wii, 360, PC, whatever.

The more Bioshock the merrier!

Silellak5864d ago (Edited 5864d ago )

Indeed! Down with exclusive hoarding. Great games should be experienced by as many gamers as possibles - even those who can only afford a single system.

+Bubble for you, good sir.

reckoner5864d ago

This would be awesome. Bioshock is a great game.

fenderputty5864d ago

of PS3 fanboys yelling stuff like, "we don't care about Bioshock ... keep it ... yada yada etc etc."

to me this seems insane. While I understand why an xbox fan would want to keep the game exclusive to their platform, I don't see why anyone would want to turn down the chance to play this game.

I sure know that if Bioshock 2 (prequel) is PS3 bound, I'll be getting it.

C_SoL5864d ago

unless Mircosoft writes another $check$....I wouldn't be surprized

The Wood5864d ago

I think the ps3 guys didn't care about halo and mass effect. Bioshock was quite kool despite it being another FPS type game. The graphics and art style were memorable. Iron out the problems and the sequel, even if it stays exclusive to the 360, should be a stella game. Im not speaking for all PS3 fans don't get me wrong but from what I've read most PS3 fans would prefer that game other the other 2 I mentioned.

Torch5864d ago

Yeah, I bought the title at Christmas, and it's since been installed on my PC virtually unscathed.

Well, not true: I managed to swim through the burning wreckage and to the building, and down the elevator, and save the game.

Even during those meaningless five-ten minutes, I got a sense of it being a beautiful, intriguing game. The 'Under the Sea' background music was a nice added touch.

I'm almost scared to delve into it, because I have a feeling it's going to reel me in...been too busy ever-so-slowly chewing on the myriad of my yet-to-be-played PS3 titles, not to mention what I've got pre-ordered this month and the next.

This article's got me intrigued to fire it up again...do you recall roughly how long the game is?

chaosatom3335864d ago

My interest just went down.
Probably the #1 reason it wasn't made for ps3 in the first place.

fenderputty5864d ago

Trust me man ... there were plenty of Die Hards trying to piss on the game simply because it wasn't going multiplat. I understand these are not rational PS3 fans but, they did exist.

I really hope it comes over to the PS3. Maybe I'm greedy but, I don't care. Quality games are always welcome to my console of choice.

Fishy Fingers5864d ago (Edited 5864d ago )

What? What? What?! Torch, I highly recommend you give it a second chance, it will definitely reel you in, hook, line and sinker. But do it soon I implore you. With the impending release of GTA and MGS, poor old Bioshock doesn't stand a chance.

Hell, what are you doing on N4G? Put that mouse to better use mister!

Id say maybe 15-20 hours. Closer to 15 for the experienced gamer.

GiantEnemyCrab5864d ago

Agreed! Indeed down with console exlcusive hording!

So when is MGS4 coming to the 360 again?? Can't wait!!!!@

OHHHHH but wait a minute... I can already here the "F U" from the commentors.. Share the 360 "exclusives" but F U if you want MGS4 on the 360.

Jesus I hate PS3 hypocrites.

The Wood5864d ago (Edited 5864d ago )

but that was probably something to do with the fact it was meant to come and didnt so maybe some were a little bitter but Im sure deep down they respected Bioshock more than any other 360 exclusive other than gears.

@GiantEnemyCrab

You make a good and funny point that can be reversed. I personally would prefer if exclusives stayed exclusive. We should not pine every exclusive that the other console has. If you want a particular exclusive then buy the bloody console end off.

You either buy a BMW or a Mercedes. Dont expect to get all of the Mercs features in your Beemer or vice versa that's my opinion

↓↓↓ I agree with you also ↓↓↓

Fishy Fingers5864d ago (Edited 5864d ago )

Bioshock is running on a multiplatform engine (UE), it was exclusive because someone paid. A true exclusive is built from the ground up on that system.

Bioshock going PS3 will not effect the 360 version in anyway, the same cannot be said for "true" exclusives like MGS or Too Human which have been built to take advantage of a certain machine.

yesah5864d ago

uhh actually MGS4 is on a 50 gig disc, soo pretty much not possible to put on a 17 gig Dvd, thank god Konami didnt downgrade it so that it could.

Also its not the people who owns the consoles decision, its the game developers so........your post makes no sense.

NO_PUDding5864d ago

I won't say I don't think it should be made for PS3.

But I genuinely don't want it. By the way, don't just read a part of this post, read it all.

I think Bioshock is totally pretentious. It makes it even worse, becuase it was never intended to be, but the people calling it a masterpiece just show me how pathetic this generation has been so far, in terms of games. It's a shooter, and I played the pivotal parts, but I am waiting for it to actually effect me, in a way, that doesn't make me feel like I am losing IQ.

NOW... not that it is a masterpiece, but I think the depth that went into Mass Effect made it a title I would much prefer become avaiable to PS3 users than Bioshock. I loved Mass Effect, even thoguh it was as mainstream as they come.

hazeblaze5864d ago

Well personally I prefer for exclusives to stay exclusive. What's the point in having different systems if they all have the same games. That's why I really applaud Sony and their first party devs... with the exception of Bioshock and Mass Effect, Sony has truly had the most impressive exclusives on their system this gen.

Having exclusives makes it fun to own different systems though. Personally I feel that the 360 needs more quality exclusives, not to lose some of the best they have. If Bioshock AND Mass Effect go multiplat, I'll be kinda dissapointed.

Silellak5864d ago (Edited 5864d ago )

The PS3 version doesn't surprise me. The Wii version does.

I wouldn't think the Wii could handle the Unreal 3 Engine, but then maybe it'll be subtantially different than the other two versions. I could care less, as long as the presence of a Wii version doesn't hinder the others - but then, it doesn't seem to be with other games.

ChickeyCantor5864d ago

Does it have to support the UT engine ? really....isnt it getting obvious they arent gonna use the heavy engine.

A few hours a go i saw this article about a an engine called Q....from the makers of Direct3D i hope they make use of that in some way it seems that Q can do allot with the Wii.

Richdad5864d ago

Epic was saying that they are gonna support it but they have not said anything abt it. Yeah but if Bioshock 2 comes to WII than UT3 too will come on it.

JVIDICAN5864d ago

could always be mini-games only with a bioshock theme to it lol
JK =P

LOL.

EDIT you dissagree because I think this is ridiculous?, BioShock is *suppose* to be on other consoles all the time Hell I can still find sites saying part one is going to be on PS3.

Fanboys found a recyled version of the original news that was posted today because it was largely ignored and passed off as nonsense lol.

JVIDICAN5864d ago

keep telling yourself that lol
strangely i can feel your fear in your posts =P

power of Green 5864d ago

BioShock is going to appeal to the masses on the Wii platform ;<.

GiantEnemyCrab5864d ago

You are right. This is just a rehash of the same story. Don't worry this game with be 360/PC again no PS3. Mark my words.

Pain5864d ago (Edited 5864d ago )

Then That way xbox 2 version wont be 3rd best looking PC/PS3 versions>>>RROD2 >>>Wii version

If it's going to PS3 I can believe it. But the Wii? Come on, it'd have to be a cartoon or something.

Gee...can't wait to see how many things they change and stray away from, oh don't forget the miscast actors

Neonridr802d ago

I have such high hopes because the first game is so near and dear to me. That being said, I'm sure they will mess it up. I'm hoping it's adult rated, and violent. I want to see a Big Daddy put that drill to good use :P

camel_toad801d ago (Edited 801d ago )

They're great at butchering stuff but there have also been some gems and surprises.

I never in my life thought I'd like a series based on League of Legends but it was pretty great.

Maybe just maybe they'll do Bioshock justice.

Netflix did well with Dare Devil and the Punisher and I hear the Witcher is pretty good I know when I had Netflix at the time Stranger Things was also good. But Bioshock I love the franchise Bioshock Infinite is my favorite game I would pay the $21 Canadian just to check out Bioshock. Normally I would never renew my Netflix after they did their price hike but Bioshock would be worth it.

LoveSpuds801d ago

When firing on all cinders, Netflix do produce some brilliant stuff so I am not feeling pessimistic at all here. If Netflix deliver to their potential then this could be incredible given the quality of the source material. Personally, I am quite excited.

EvertonFC801d ago

Agreed, Netflix originals etc are fantastic in general, it's rare I don't like something they do.
Certainly not feeling negative with Netflix doing bioshock quite the opposite infact.

Ashunderfire86801d ago (Edited 801d ago )

Bu bu bu bu but what about Cowboy Beebop though? That was a little miss opportunity. Just a little nervous that Bioshock could turn to crap 💩 like that show. If they do a Horizon Zero Dawn show, I hope they don’t screw that up as well. I know a few good actresses that could play Aloy like Jon Snow’s girlfriend from Game of Thrones, and his wife in real life. Definitely see Aloy in her.

Livingthedream801d ago

Netflix does a lot of great things, recently finished the first season of Arcane and it was brilliant.

MadLad801d ago

Arkane was so damn good.
I just hope they keep up the quality with later releases.

I'm not even a LoL player.

Livingthedream801d ago

I’m sure they will, I don’t play the games either, I love the fact that I didn’t need to play them to enjoy it.

Michiel1989800d ago

Arcane was insanely good imo, I was hooked almost all the way. Im not sure of this but i think Netflix didnt have much to do with the production of the show? More like they just bought the rights to have it exclusively on there?

Some of their original shows are really good so im quite hopeful this might turn out to be a good show. Lets hope they wont F it up.

Nacho_Z801d ago

Love Bioshock but I'll prepare myself for the likelihood this will be both crap and a pale imitation of the source material. That covers most video game adaptations and Netflix films.

dumahim801d ago

How many have they done? It sounds like Witcher and Castlevania have done well.

Nacho_Z801d ago

I meant Netflix films in general, there are some good ones but most are average at best in my experience. Castlevania is good but I didn't like The Witcher, although it is successful.

Not sure if there are any live action video game film adaptations on Netflix as yet but they don't have a great track record.

dumahim801d ago

@ Nacho
For movies, I think it’s very difficult to cram he narrative from a 10+ hour game into 2 hours. I think that’s why series are much better suited for video game adaptations. Seems we have a bunch coming up, so we’ll see how well it plays out.

Terry_B801d ago

Why are PS2 and Wii and even the PS Vita tagged?

Atom666801d ago

The Vita tag stung a little bit extra.

Atticus_finch801d ago

Starring Tom Holland I'm guessing.

FlavorLav01801d ago

Haha. Now if it was a Sony movie, very likely

Outlawzz801d ago

Lol the Tom Holland craze is real

Kevin Nash is going to play the..Big Daddy.

Infinite better than 2? No way

roadkillers973d ago

IMO Infinite is better than 2... The only thing I remember from 2 is playing as a little sister. It felt too much like Bioshock (which wasn't bad). Infinite was the right stepping stone.

Inverno973d ago

Infinite was a huge step back. It played like a generic fps because it was dumbed down to be an fps and it's not at all the gameplay evolution Bioshock needed. It was a mindless shooter where story and it's world building took a backseat to repetitive shooting galleries against dumb AI while making you look for health in trash cans cause they removed mechanics that worked in favor for a more action oriented gameplay.
I think people are remembering Infinite all wrong.
It's story is a mess and it's world isn't as fleshed out as Rapture was in the first Bio.

LucasRuinedChildhood973d ago (Edited 973d ago )

@Inverno

"It was a mindless shooter where story and it's world building took a backseat to repetitive shooting galleries"
Sounds more applicable to Bioshock 2, tbh. B2 has wave-based gameplay where Subject Delta casually goes through large hordes of splicers to protect Little Sisters. C'mon. I still wouldn't call any of the Bioshocks mindless shooters though.

If you want to criticize the lack of the weapon wheel and the replacement of certain mechanics in Infinite in favour of increased mobility (e.g. addition of the sky-hook), fair enough, but the story and world-building of 2 are less memorable, noteworthy and interesting than Infinite by a huge margin. Most people don't even remember much beyond the basic premise of 2 (including any of the characters) because it felt so unnecessary. It's not even close.

"It's story is a mess and it's world isn't as fleshed out as Rapture was in the first Bio." Needing to use Bioshock 1 to criticize Infinite instead of 2 is an admission that 2's story is the weakest.

roadkillers973d ago

@Inverno

I remember it being very imaginative and a breath of fresh air, while still being familiar. The last hour or two was big on shooting.

SegaSaturn669973d ago

Infinite was the most boring and repetitive in terms of gameplay. It lost the suspenseful atmosphere of the first 2

SonyPS360973d ago (Edited 973d ago )

Am I reading that backwards or are you really shocked that people like infinite more than 2?

Just wanna make sure I have it right because you're literally the first person I've seen say that 2 is better.

Inverno973d ago

I understand 2 is more of the same but I much prefer more of the same than going backwards in terms of gameplay. It wasn't the step in the right direction. But thats just my opinion, I'm not surprised at all. Just to me I much rather the first 2. However what they had planned for Infinite originally sounded very interesting and it sucks we won't ever see it

Concertoine973d ago (Edited 973d ago )

Imo 2 is tied with 1 as my favorite Bioshock. The gameplay is the natural evolution of the first, with more freedom to experiment. The story and locales are more intimate and less grandiose than you would see in a Ken Levine story. I love the atmospheric break of the underwater sections and never understood the hate for them. All 3 games have pacing issues but imo 2’s are less severe. The level design has a lot of ex-Looking Glass alumnis and is generally more open ended.

The endings are more tailored to your moral choices than the other games.

Infinite hedges on a admittedly cool twist that is poorly executed when scrutinized. The gameplay takes a huge step back, it isnt the game that early gameplay and trailers promised. The world is less fleshed out. It was prescient politically and that makes it interesting but otherwise i have no desire to replay it.

Yui_Suzumiya973d ago

2 had better gameplay but 3 had a better story

leahcim973d ago (Edited 973d ago )

Hurts to see the word "worst" related to Bioshock saga.
The 3 games are masterpieces.

ScootaKuH973d ago

Bioshock 2
Bioshock
Bioshock Infinite

That was easy

Rebel_Scum973d ago

oh great. Can’t wait to see the posts of game titles in a ranked order without context as to why.

BioShock 2's director reveals what could have been a different BioShock

In a podcast with Wassup Conversations, Jordan Thomas, director and the writer of BioShock 2 reveals his initial ideas for a new rapture and how they were shut down by 2K.
"My first proposal was about a little sister, it was playing as a little sister and it was much more horror-oriented pace and about vulnerability, closer to Thief frankly, but I was told no, we want it to be our Gears of War, this need to be a big shooter franchise with an emphasis on the shooter element, and so what I think of the protagonist of a shooter as is a big lumbering sort of porthole on a stick with guns sticking out in front like you’re almost a vehicle."

Nacho_Z1493d ago

It's surprising the game turned out to be good with this guy at the helm. The combat mechanics were actually the biggest improvement in the sequel as much as he wouldn't want to hear that, everything else was inferior.
