Game Critics: Game of the Year Winners Announced

Major Nelson reports: Geoff Keighley just sent me an email announcing the winners of this years Game Critics awards. Here, through the magic of cut and paste, is the email:

Dont get me wrong Bioshock is a Good Game.......but really?? better than COD4 (Best Multiplayer and Graphics)?? better than Orange Box(5 Games and Features Galore)??? I think Not....

Bioshock had great visuals and art design. I found myself looking at the surrounding environment a lot more in Bioshock than CoD. And single player is something everyone can enjoy, online multiplayer isn't.

The Orange Box is a remake so that might be why it lost to Bioshock... But CoD4 is mainly multiplayer as mentioned, which is expierence based, and not content based... its what i call a Favorite Vs Best... Best is strictly content, where favorite is based off of expierence like remembering the good times with friends and such, stuff not meant to be apart of the game (not put in by the Devs)...its hard to explain, hopefully yall get what im saying

I have to say that's nice work of BioShock to take 1st place. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure COD4 is great, but it cannot have as deep and intricate of a story as BioShock holds.

People tend to forget that not everyone is playing the multiplayer part of the game.

CoD 4, in terms of story/single-player campaign, is nowhere near Bioshock.

Interestingly enough, the top three games were shooters. I also believe that Mass effect and uncharted should have been higher.

there were a few people who were saying if orange box was split...portal would easily be the best game of last year...

I've seen the orange box just being ignored because it's just too complicated. Should it be split up or kept together? Should it count if half life is such an old game? Portal was great, but was it long enough?
Personally I just think the orange box should just be recognised as one of the best games of the year and awarded as such.

Game for game COD4 is AT LEAST on par w/ Bioshock. Great multiplayer, good (short) single player vs Great single player, lacking in multiplayer.

But my hat has to go to COD4 because they made this GREAT game on not one, not two, but three systems, all looking equally good, and most importantly all playing equally well. The devs should be rewarded for putting out such a stellar game for multiple systems.

The orange Box is probably best value for the money because it has a couple of 3 yr old games, but it definitely shouldn't be #2 on the list.. I haven't played Bioshock, but I heard its a great game. But guess what Crysis is also a great game, where the hick is it?
Uncharted drakes fortune should be number one or two, since everyone who played that game thought its the best game ever.

I think i must be the only person to buy and play Bioshock and not like it, it had everything going for it, looked great, cool enemies, atmospheric but i just didn't like it, for me COD4 was the best multiplayer game of the year and it's good to see people talking about Portal, as has been said it could've been considered in it's own right.

I agree with you on CoD4 though, I think it is a great multiplayer experience. Portal is awesome as well, especially going back and trying the advanced maps.

came true. I knew Bioshock will be the 07 game of the year judging from critics review of the game. I am surprise COD4 was not second though as i expected COD4 to really give Bioshock a run for its money.

Wowo great, congrutalations Bioshock 2007 GOTY nuff said. The past year was so amazing, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassin Creed, Rock Band, Orange Box, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime and others, Wii60 great choice.

bioshock, call of duty 4 and the orange box are a dream come true for any gamer. bioshock i love, with a superb single player but, I'm addicted to call of duty 4 multiplayer. the orange box is a bargain for any gamer, and half life 2 is in my top 5 all time.

with that been said , call of duty 4 and bioshock are very close in my list for game of the year 2007.

Absolutly PERFECT. BioShock IS the best and the critics know it. Orange Box and COD4 are indeed the worthy follow ups though I would have put Mass Effect a bit higher.
