Devil May Cry Anime U.S. Release Likely Canceled

The North American release of the Devil May Cry anime series may have been canceled by publisher ADV Films, according to a recent report from ICv2. The report, which indicates a broad number of domestic cancellations on ADV's part, including the Devil May Cry series, has since been pulled from the site, but is still available via Google Cache. Despite being announced in December for a February 5 release, absolutely no references to Devil May Cry currently exist on ADV Films' web site. These references, however, are also still available as cached pages.

From the episodes I saw, the anime was bad imo. It lacks a good storyline and theres very little action.

Yeah, it was a disappointment... I'll take the games over the anime any day. I kinda hope they do make anime or manga that is more exciting and insures that Dante's attitude is spunkier. =P

You can watch all of the episodes (at least you could) on Youtube with english subtitles.

There is only like 13 episodes and they revolve around Dante fighting off random demons that end up being sacrifices for a larger demon that was associated with Mundus. Dante doesn't devil trigger until the very last episode and even then you don't get to see it.

Lady and Trish are both in the series and they both meet for the first time and end up making Dante's life a living heck. Also, Dante has an agent named Morrison and one of the girls he saves (a little girl named Patty) ends up hanging out at Dante's "Devil May Cry" store for fun while all he does is sit around all day and eat ice cream in between killing demons.

The anime is more humerous than serious, and Dante is more of a lazy bastard rather than the brash hunter we see in the series.

HOWEVER, in the 10th episode he comes across two characters who seem to be connected to an organization that seemingly worships Sparda. SO! I'm assuming since the anime IS considered canon material that the organization in the anime and in the DMC4 game are one and the same.

I recommend people to pick up the anime if they can ever find it. It isn't as bad as most of the crap that comes across the TV in terms of anime, and it sheds some light on a few things about day to day life with Dante, Lady, and Trish.

Considering that Japan ONLY sees as an "official" Anime & Manga market the US and some parts of Europe and Asia

for example South America is one of the biggest Anime & Manga markets and yet japan has done nothing about it and never really paid any attention or tried to gain that market even with the fact that a LOT of the popular animes in the 90s arrived first to South America than that US and most of Europe (except Spain) and some animes seem to be more popular there and they were ever in Japan (Saint Seiya for example) and due to japans lack of attention what were people left to do? download, buy pirate DVDs or import (OLD stuff) from the US in astronomical prices because there was NEVER any other choice

then we go to other example the US the worlds latest anime bloomers were the HUGE anime popularity began to be mainstream by the beginning of 2000 and thanks to our friend globalization the US late bloom hype is reaching back to the world with easier and cheaper to access merchandize and seeing how the buying hype for anime and manga in the US seems to grow exponentially I don't know exactly were is anime "slowing beginning to die" if not thanks to globalization actually reaching and being of easier access than before

Wow.. they are really behind.. the anime came out last year.. 6 month ago or so... and it was fansub... It was a ok anime not that bad as many think... But if You really wanne watch a good Action anime watch Black Lagoon.....

I agree with you the point. However I feel it's a two street. Those other markets such as South America have to show japan or the companies that are in this type of business that their is a market for em over in those areas. Because if japan learns their a market for em over their they might just release some Anime on DVD's over their. Also before I finish I like to point out your first Agree came from me!

One thing I find strangely questionable with the whole South America japan market thing is for example to license an anime for TV you need to do it with the japanese dudes ok you do it and considering that in the 90s in South America regular/local TV you could find more anime than the one that is aired today in the US wouldn't be that a indication for japanese companies that they have a market that they should exploit? also interesting enough Japanese companies shoot themselves in the foot because once people start watching this strange animation on TV they seem to love they found that there we NO DVDs or VHS or ANYTHING (not even pirate versions) and due to demand and the fact that you couldn't find neither pirate nor original copy did people began downloading and selling pirate DVDs

now in South America for almost 2 decades japanese companies haven't even bothered exploring the market (that is willing to pay) and worse how in the 90s it was a still virgin market with low to no pirate versions that could have been easily exploited with original merchandize

but NOTHING hell even the new US (and even European) distribution companies are trying

I had no idea south America was crying out to japan to given them some Anime. The reason why I say the Anime & manga market is trouble is because of bad things happening on both sides of the fence.

For Example theirs somewhat of a Manga Civil War going on bewteen fans who to make it in the Manga Biz & Fans who want to keep the Manga market pure as they would say!(By not supporting any Manga that is not created by a Japanese person)Also sometimes companies such as ADV will sometimes bring the Anime they want to the US or EU not the Anime the Fanbase wants. Also they sometimes halfa$$ the work put into the US or EU release of Anime series such as bad Voice acting or cutting out stuff that was in the japanese version to make it more for kids.

Also To top that off Anime companies in the EU (Such as ADV UK) are being shutdown because of because of all the downloading of Anime series done over the internet.(Does Something Called BitTorrent ring a bell to anyone?) This why I say (or think at the least) the market for Anime & manga outside of japan is dieing.
