GTA IV sales up on release date for PS3, Xbox 360

Advanced orders for Take-Two Interactive Inc.'s Grand Theft Auto IV for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 increased at retailer Amazon.com following a finalized release date of Apr. 29 this week.
By Thurs. afternoon, sales for the Xbox 360 version increased 284 percent, the PS3 version 239 percent, and the Xbox 360 Special Edition version at 210 percent.

very strange why the ps3 is selling more special version i personaly would not pay it unless we got something great but and bag and stuff not my idea of special lol

GTA is just a special series. It will sale multi millions on both consoles.

Well a lot of people who are buying the special version are the hardcore and pretty much the hardcore know about the GTA4 avalibility preorder currently. Me personally this game is a rental.

Anyone who goes to Target to buy video games knows about GTA IV preorders. They have tons of $10 preorder cards for both the 360 and PS3. And Gamestop has it up on the preorder board. Everyone who plays games knows about GTA IV preorders.

The PS3 version is about 25 places higher than the 360 version on the US Amazon top list.
And 40 places higher on the UK amazon top list.
Both Xbox contries. Is this a hint of PS2 users getting ready :s

It only makes sense IMO the GTA series is just better on the Playstation consoles(PS1,PS2,PSP,PS3 etc.)

I can't wait to pick up my copy of GTA IV for my PS3!;)

Wow, I knew it would not be long before someone said the PS3 or 360 version is better or this or that.

Kermit, GTA was only a Sony exclusive on the PS1 and PS2 so there was no way to compare them. I am sure both games will be spectacular on both systems.

The 360 has larger install base so it will probaly sell more due to this fact. If the PS3 had the larger install base it would sell more. Which means what to us gamers, nothing!

As far as special editions, I think the hardcore will buy it.

USA - 360 version sells better
Europe - Ps3 version sells better (however 360 version will sell better in UK)

Its preatty obvious judging on current sales trends, amazon sales aren't really the best things to go by, this has been proven many a time in the past

I debated for a while which one I was gonna pre-order MGS4 or GTA4....

after much diliberation I decided that since MGS4 wasn't comming out til June sometime I automatically opted for the Special Edition of GTA. Now if MGS4 comes out with somekind of Special Edition (highly likely), then I guess...

I'll be slappin' down another $90!!

Coming from someone who's name is Xbox is the BEST I'm not exactly surprised by the comment.

I'm sure it'll sell well on the 360 but only a moron would think that it would only sell a Million on the 360 and not the PS3.

Both versions of the game will sell well and there doesn't have to be any stupid fanboyism about that.

@Drakelore-I agree the fanboyish comments are getting old, but I did not see XboxisBest comments as fanboyish. If would have said something in comparison of the PS3, like the 360 version will be better, or look better, etc. I think he is going off all of the trends from all the games that were released on both platforms the 360 hs sold bot twice as much, which is due to the larger install base. This does not put down the PS3, as I own one. Wht will be interesting is the fact that this game series was only Sony exclusive until this gen. I wonder how many MS fans will buy a game and how many PS2 owners will finally shell out th bucks and bu a PS3. Interesting...

I realize now that his comment wasn't really fanboyish its just when i first read his comment it sounded like he was saying that the game would sell millions on the 360 and not sell at all on the PS3 so apologies to Xbox is the BEST.

yeah I'm a big fan of Mass Effect I've already completed it three times and i think its a great game defiantly one of the best I've played this year i just hope the 2nd one will be as good.

@season007- I too am so tired of onesided fanboy comments so I see what you are saying. Maybe he was just commenting on the only system he owns the 360. I am just guessing I am not saying this as fact though. I think it is better when people only comment on systems they own instead of praising their beloved system and thrashing the other system(s).

Drakelore- Oh no big deal. You seem like a unbiased gamer, appluads and bubles for you. People who bash a system becuase they love another is getting old. There is nothing wrong with liking a company, but when people take it to the extremes; I am like "what's your MS or Sony employee number (LOL). 360 version will sell more. FACT... there are more 360's and a higher atach rate for games = more sales. Also to whoever said it was ps exclusive until now must not remember Vice city or San andreas on the xbox.I know it wasn't released at the same time but none the less was not ps exclusive. Not saying either version will be better considering it's the same damn game on either console.

The GTA's released on the original Xbox were the same exact games as their PS2 counterparts with the exception that the Xbox games were graphically cleaner.The only thing PS2 had over them was the fact they were out on PS2 first since they were timed exclusives.

GTA on the new systems looks the same by early previews and will release at the same time. The Xbox 360 has additional downloadable content coming and a much larger install base.

The Xbox 360 version should outsell the PS3 version by the same margin as it's install base. Theoretically, if the Xbox 360 install base is twice the size, then GTA 360 should sell twice as many copies.

Keep in mind a game like GTA will affect console sales untill the 2008 Holidays season is over as well. A high profile release such as this has much longer lasting brand appeal then most games. As more consoles are sold this year, GTA should be on most peoples short lists of games to buy.

don't forget, in the xbox versions you could play your own custom playlist over the radio. now that was awesome !

i am sorry, but the ps2 versions had nothing better over the xbox. there weren't bad or horrible they just didn't have anything extra.

anyone saying it was better on the ps controls, well thats cos you are use to the controls, just like anyone with the xbox would say the xbox controls were better. i personally liked the xbox controls a lot more.

I agree with you fully. Custom soundtracks were awesome on the X-Box . . . I just didn't like the controller, but that is indeed a personal preference. The graphics were also far superior to the PS2, which should come as no shock. The only thing was, by the time it came out on the X-Box, I'd already played each of the games and pretty much had gotten tired of them.

That's wishful thinking unless Sony sells a few million consoles by then. The only thing Ps controls had better than xbox was when your shooting out of a car it was such a pain to use the black and white buttons to look.
