Regardless of what he said about skill, his other points about the game mechanics and Activision are spot on. People are playing the same game every year. Most It would easier to sell this as an update or patch, rather than a full fledged release. The last good game in this franchise was COD4:MW.

Seems that COD fans refuse these arguments point blank with "why change if if its good?"... Why buy the same thing? That should be the question.

I absolutely agree. MW take less skill than games like BF3 and Halo Reach. But it's still a lot of fun. The campaigns of MW 1 & 2 are some of the best I have ever played. Blockbuster worthy.

The MW2 single player was bland at best, I can hardly remember anything about it it was so forgettable. The story was moronic, even calling it a story is being generous. BLOPS was even worse, it's only saving grace being the zombies and having our old pal Resnov back for a while.

lol right, my little brother had a k/d over 2 at 9 years old. Once you get the feel of the game and can run at turbo speed with what ever the over powered gun is you win every match. Running fast with a small gun and shooting quick = a win in COD. If you lose in COD its because you arent sprinting enough.

Play both BF3 and MW3.

Both are fun games. Over the past year I played Bad Company 2 and Black Ops. Both the multiplayer gave me what I enjoyed.

Just space out the games and have fun with both. You cant go wrong.

Now Im playing BF3, eventually I will get MW3 and play both over the next yr or so.

Try not to let publishers,developers and ads get to your head and try to enjoy games for what they are.

Both games have been advertised cheaply so ignore all that hype trash and try out whatever fancies you.

Pretty much everything on this list is invalid.

1: New 5 hour campaign, 16 brand new maps, new mp game modes, specs ops survival, new spec ops missions is easily worthy of a new full priced retail game.

2: What does multiplayer DLC have to do with the campaign

3: CoD actually rewards "1337 skills' more than say Battlefield does. For example in BF someone can sit back with a mortar or one of those drone things and more of less keep pace with the top player on the server even though it requires no skill and has next to no danger. Also in a 64 player battle, one 1337 player has barely any impact on the result of the game, where as in CoDs smaller games a really good player can win a game almost by themselves.

4: There are plenty of worse looking games out there, and if console gamers demanded graphical prowess they definetly wouldn't be playing on consoles.

1) Most people don't buy it for the campaign.Those that do find the story story poor and mediocre. This is fact from the last three games.

2) Given point number one, the game hardly changes so it can easily be offered as DLC with new maps. Most maps look and feel the same, more of a copy and paste of buildings.

3) Skill is long gone in the COD franchise given the over the top and ridiculous perks and rewards. Not to mention death streaks, auto aim, reload and running speeds.

4) Forget graphics, the last 4 games were riddled with on-line stability issues, balancing issues, a large number of glitches and not even the same experience across the platforms.

With a game that sells so much, you'd think that more investment and time would be put into a quality gaming experience. Instead, the game is rushed out, with the same promises, with all the problems that it previously had, and fixed during a period of six months. Only for the next game to be announced and the cycle starts again.

3. "a really good player can win a game almost by themselves" thats exactly the lone wolf thing that a lot of people hate. you say in bf3 one person might not have an impact but in a team game like bf3 everyone has an impact; its not just about your total kills (cod fans). And yes, You could sit back with the mortar but, have you played bf3? I've gotten killed 2 times by mortars in hours of matches so, who cares there just taking them selves out of the game.
1. maps & game modes= dlc and is not worth 60$ by it self. The reason why it isn't worth the price of a NEW game is that it is just an updated OLD game you know, kind of like... dlc. Plus cod sp gameplay is the worst of the big fps's. Team and enemy AI is just awful, and they raise the difficulty by just making it worse. Not to mention MW2 didn't even make sense.

I have quite a lot to say in response here, so get comfortable.

3: I didn't say that 1 player has no impact in BF3, I said neglibile impact because he is perhaps only 1 in 32 players on his team. "its not just about your total kills" this is what I mean though. In CoD or any game with a small amount of players, a good player can more or less single handedly win a game. At the same time they can get a good k/d, put pressure on the people on the other team and just generally have a big impact on the game. In Battlfield a good player by himself simply can't, or at best can only on rare occasions have an impact on the outcome of game because they are outnumbered so heavily.

Put it this way, in BF3 my k/d is 1.75 and my win/loss is 1.3. In Black Ops my k/d is 2.2 and my win/loss is 2.2 as well. So in Black Ops I can by myself win a game, but in BF3 I can't because I'm stuck with a bunch of 31 or so other clowns. One of the main reasons my k/d is lower in BF3 is not because I'm worse or the opponents are worse, its because in order to try and win a game I have to sacrifice myself half a dozen times a game to try and clear a path for the other noobs who are content to sit back and camp unless there is an enemy free path straight to the objective.

Also, just yesterday I was playing a 32 player rush game and was killed about half a dozen times by mortars throughout the game. Once someone starts it, people see how effective it is at getting kills with a nice k/d and it starts to spread accross the server, at lest from my experience on PC.

1: Maps and game modes isn't all you get though is it? You get a pretty good campaign, a bunch of specs ops missions AND the new maps and modes, kill streaks, weapons, upgrade system, etc. You can say well I don't want the campaign and Spec Ops, which based on MW2 add about 20 hours of quality content, you just want it for the MP. OK, fair enough, but what game ever adds 16 maps in DLC?

And if you are going to be like that, I didn't want the campaign or Co-Op in BF3, I only wanted the MP, which given 15% of people have finished its campaign seems to put me in the vast majority. So all I'm buying is the MP, which is basically BFBC2 with jets and new graphics, new modes and new maps (Sound familiar to the MW3 situation?). Well, I don't buy a new game for the graphics, so all I got for my AU$80 (equiv. to US$80) was 9 new maps. So that sounds like less than MW3, yet it shouldnt have been DLC? Indeed you can't even include the upgraded graphics as a reason it should be a new game, because on consoles it looks exactly the same as BC2.

So what about UC3? I don't want the MP, I only want the campaign. This sounds familiar doesn't it, although MP swapped for campaign. Just the campaign sounds ideal for the release of an expansion pack for UC2 to me.

The point is, you can't just say that MW3 ONLY gives new multiplayers maps and game modes simply because YOU aren't interested in the NEW campaign and spec ops missions. If you want to be like that, then you can use the same 'logic' to prove that almost all games should be released as DLC or expansion packs.

You completely missed the point about how the fact that one person can win a game is one of the stupidest things about cod. Its crazy though to think that you cant impact a game by your self. The only way you would think that is if you are only looking at K/D and kills. Thats for cod not bf3. Cod is about TDM and BF3 is not. In BF3 you can help your team get the win in a number of ways, like flanking, planting/defusing, taking out tanks or aircraft, spotting everything, staying alive so they can spawn on you, defending C while they get B. Like I said its not about kills. The fact that you need you team to win a team game is the best thing about BF3. Plus we all know there just going to ship COD severely broken again, like every year.

In BF you need a lot of tactical knowledge, and room to adapt in different situations, since things change all the time, in CoD, they stay the same. Simple as that. Two TOTALLY different type of games, that is why some people don't like both.

All the other stuff, I agree too, and I mostly agree with the article. They are releasing stuff that can be literally made with good modding tools as full price game. don't worry about it. I have played every BF, and every COD and I say that you are spot on. Teamplay gives a much more sense of satisfaction rather than lone wolfing things.

TF2, Counter Strike, ARMA, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six. All amazing technical achievements. COD is along the lines of Unreal Tournament.

People would bring up the sports games argument,(i.e. madden, ncaa etc), but they fail to realize this is much much worse. Because it comes out yearly AND they realease very expensive $15 map packs EVERY 3 friggin months.

Some would try and counter my map pack argument with acitvision's new elite package. But that's even WORSE. They have you sheep forking over for almost the price of TWO games for the price of one.

In the past issues weren't addressed as quickly as they should have been. And that's true. But I'll be very surprised if mw3 isn't handled with utmost care. This is Activisions flagship title using elite sub, I expect things to be much better in terms of hackers and patching exploits.

It won't be perfect, but it won't be a rehash of past failures.

A lot of people are responding that they like the mindless arcade-style that COD offers. Because it's Fun! And they can just run and shoot, and don't have to think about teamwork. As well as have short matches in spare time.

But personally, I don't game simply for Fun, although it is. IMO it's more about the saisfaction of reaching, whatever in-game, achievement.

Knowing the game is designed to allow lesser skilled player reach such similar achievements, aka fun.

To me, it dimishes the fun about reaching in-game accomplishments.

@ The Wolverine... How long ago were the first four sonic games created? At that time there wasn't really innovation and change in any of the gaming franchises. When the game changed it was a poor because they were badly developed, with poorly implemeted ideas. Take Mario over the years. The story is poor, but the gameplay made several innovations, and changed many times round.

@ Achmetha... I feel the same way about sports game. I only get them every two or three years. I have raised this many times.

@Tachyon_Nova... Kill/death only shows skill in death match, nothing else. There is so much more in terms of online play that games should offer.

All I'm saying is that looking at the franchise, COD can easily be sold as an update, with the option of a single player. This can be done without killing our wallets. I am not all impressed with Activision map prices, or game prices. I agree with the article. If gamers dont stand up and say something (with their money) then they will keep giving us the same thing, with the same issues every year. Watch this space for the number of glitches and problems to be reported after release. With the money this franchise generates, I expect a lot more quailty to be offered.

Because with the current hardware as restrictive as it is, CoD's graphics are good enough because it runs at 60fps which is more important in an arcade-title like this.

I played every COD this GEN and BFBC1 - BF3 and I jumped on BLOPS with my brother this weekend. I couldn't stand that my gun felt like it was made of plastic and it shot BBs(lasers) instead of BULLETS like a real gun. You know the ones that they use in the REAL MARINES lol My player didnt feel wieghted in COD at all like he wasnt wearing any EQUIPMENT. Like they wear the REAL MARINES lol

My only hopes of getting a copy are by winning a tournament tonight at the store. There is no way I can afford to pay $60 for it when great games are coming out soon. Skyrim, Assassins Creed, Halo, Saints Row, Metal Gear Solid all fall ahead of this game. Plus I have still yet to play Batman. But If I do get first I'll be happy to play my free copy.
