Surfer Girl: Crysis PS3/X360, Driver 5 not PS3 exclusive, Spore, Skate 2

Surfer girl is back with four new rumors. Take these with a grain of salt:

"1) Crysis is coming to PS360, but not until Q3 of EA's fiscal 09 [October-December].

Crytek should make a console specific game instead of porting over one. I don't think the mass consumer market will be interested in Crysis in 09, let alone this year since it's on the PC with ridiculously high system specs...

fiscal year 09 starts in 08, so she means this game will launch in time for holiday season next year. Can't say I'm surprised, with the PC being behind consoles as far as game sales go, and with it being EA, the guys who just witnessed over 50% of their sales come from the 360, I think it was planned from the get go to release this game for consoles as well.

Well EA is definately not happy with the way Crysis selling, so porting Crysis to the consoles is a no brainer for a company like EA. Drivers crap and making multiplatform makes it even more crap because as an exclusive it was crap already.

I don't know about the sales figures but since it needs a beast of a PC to play it the way it's meant to be played I can see it cutting into the potential audience limiting sales. I'm not buying it for that exact reason. I don't have the money drop on SLI 8800GT combo (if you can even find one for MSRP) just to play one game. I have a feeling I'm not alone.

I really think the PS3 and 360 could run most of DX10 Crysis at 720p and 30 fps (probably less resolution apparently also, like cod 4 and Halo 3)...

512megs doesn't sound like much...but go read up on how much system ram is used to keep Vista stable while running Crysis, or any game for that matter...a PC isn't pouring 2 gigs worth of ram into any game...and even Crytek stated that CryEngine 2.0, like UE3, is still setup right now to only use 738megs (UE3 I think won't use more than 512 yet) of Vram from most cards...updates to the engine over time will allow for higher...but Crysis can be visually maxed on that much video ram...and that is at like a 2010 by whatever resolution at 60 fps...

both the 360 and PS3's operating system are capable of some DX10 effects...there is nothing in Crysis that either console "can't" do in terms of the programming...its just the resources...

it is very suprising how much both consoles can do though when you focus on just 720p and 30-60fps...resolution is the only area that PC's currently have advantages...and the 512megs of total ram on both consoles is way less jarring when you factor in how little their respective OS's use when compared to either XP or Vista...

I haven't been heavily into PC gaming since the Doom 3 and HL 2 launch...those two were the first games (along with Far Cry) that really taxed my last PC to the point where it the games simply weren't as enjoyable as I hoped...but...take for example Max Payne 2, a game with a settigs utility that absolutely crushes nearly every PC game since...

My college Dell Insipiron 8100 had a 64 meg GeForce 2 Go GPU...1.3 ghz Pentium III processor...512 megs of system ram...and the GPU supported DX 9c through some hacked drivers (most games wouldn't list that GPU as supported, mostly becaude Dell specifically owned rights two the GPU...resulting in Nvidia not releasing updated drivers for it...and Dell itself only released to new sets of drivers for the card in the 5 years that I owned the machine...there were some hacked up drivers that were not extremely stable for DVD playback or w/e, but worked great for gaming)...

I could run MP 2 with every single setting maxed except resolution...6x AA, 4x AF, and all 15 of the individual environmental effects set to high...1024 X 768 resolution...and the game looked absolutely unstoppable at the time...

the native screen res on that laptop was 1600 x 1200 though...and the game supported that...if I would set that game to that resolution...it wouldn't even run on the lowest of other detail settings...

PC games since have really skimped on settings utilities though...even in Crysis, you really can't adjust every single aspect of the visuals...you can't run DX10 effects on anything lower than "ultra-high" or w/e they call it...a lot of machines could handle all those crazy DX10 effects, they just can't do it at an insane resolution like what the game requires...

resolution takes up the most GPU resources...then AA and AF...then effects...thats my only point...if game devs focus on the effects, and leave 2x AA and AF at a normal HDTV res...the consoles are capable of lot of stuff...I understand that the overal visual quality is far less crisp and perfect...but look at Quake III maxed out at 1600 x 1200 compared to CoD 4 on a PS3 at 720p...impressive visuals are not "just" resolution...

you would know that it would have to be severly gimped to play on either console. It is the most graphically demanding game EVER and will not run to full spec on the highest of high end consumer PC's at this point. The enemies would have to be severly modified because although the pc version provides support for the 360 controller, it is almost unplayable with a controller. aside from that i guess it would be alright the storyline is not only good so far but immersive (i think the visuals help with that) and the gameplay is alot of fun. In my personal opinion it is one of the greatest FPS i have played in a long time and it would be great to give this experience to as many people as possible---its not like porting it to the console will change my pc version in any way.

Crysis will not look the same on the consoles, the biggest difference being the textures. No amount of streaming and tweaking will be able to replicate the PC's texture quality on high settings, there simply isn't enough RAM. At best Crysis on the console will be similar to medium settings on the PC and thats with them going nuts with the depth of field effects to conceal blurry textures.

It doesn't matter what console, 512 RAM just isn't enough.

I own a ps3 and love my ps3, however i also own a computer with over $4,000 of parts in it and it will not run crysis at 720p in high graphical setting, does it in medium graphical setting at 32 fps, as a counterpoint to that it runs F.E.A.R. at an average of 140 fps. Crytek has come out and stated that there was not a single consumer grade video card on the market that could run the game in very high settings at a decent frame rate. What i think is funny is the fact that you have no idea what you are talking about because and still think that the consoles can run this game. Even if the ps3's processor can handle this game (which i believe that the processor can) the video card cannot. And like i said i own a PS3 and have been very happy with it and this is by no mean flaming the ps3, i just don't see it being possible to port it unless the graphics are severly gimped.

dude...that trailer has been confirmed countlessly to be pre-rendered...aka not rendered by a PS3 during gameplay...aka CGi...aka not "real"...

the real KZ2 stuff is impressive no doubt...but we haven't seen even a portion of the game...and there is no justifiable reason for it to destroy crysis yet...don't get me wrong, I can't wait to see what the game is capable of...but from what we have seen so far there is no way anyone can't jump to any conclusions...

you make a few posts doing a good job of pointing out obvious flaws with other's statements...then you bring up the old Crysis "consoles can't do DX10" argument that has been beaten to death...

any peice of hardware that is NOT running Vista (or hacked XP) can run DX10...its a driver protocol specific to the windows OS...the PS3 and 360 OS would have no idea what any of that code would mean...that is why it "can't" run it...

both the 360 and PS3 are capable of effects that DX9 does not allow...and that DX10 does...real time wind calculations, multisampling AA, amount of physics calculations...the drivers for DX9 left restrictions on hardware that the PS3 and 360 OS' do not have in place...

it has nothing to do with the RSX and how much ram it has...Epic confirmed this when comparing the PS3 version and PC versions of UT3...Rein stated "the PS3 is capable of most of the effects of the DX 10 version of UE3...and what it isn't is simply because of resources...not DX10 specifically"...it later noted that the resource hit was in terms of AA...256 megs doesn't allow 16x AA...

but the water refraction and insane HDR in a DX10 version of Crysis is not out of question on either console...Uncharted could arguably use HDR and bloom together more than Crysis, simply to get that "softer" look to the lighting...also the war hound tech demo has shown the 360 doing every bit of the physical deforestation effects of Crysis running in DX10...

I am sticking by my earlier statement...the 360 and PS3 can do most of Crysis...<720p @ 30fps with 2x AA and 2x AF...wouldn't look as "good" as the PC versions on an insane rig...but could keep all the crazy environmental effects and physics in tact...as well as the dynamic lighting (KZ2 easily proves that the PS3 can handle equally impressive lighting)...

EDIT:...I did read your earlier post...

"medium" settings in Crysis take out all of the DX10 support...that is where I was disagreeing...the PS3 could most likely do more effects than the PC game running on medium settings...thats all I was saying...

I was just trying to point out that the PS3/360 could probably handle almost all of the eye candy Crysis has, EXCEPT resolution and huge amounts of AA/AF...which is the same for every game...people don't look at Crysis and say "holy crap that game has awesome AA"...or "unbelievable resolution!!"...all games can do that...its the physics, the water refraction/reflections, the volumetrics, the lighting...all of which I think could be handled on either console if the resource hogs are toned down a bit (being the res and AA/AF)...

and no doubt things would need to be adjusted for a controller...I think we are more arguing about CryEngine 2.0 more than anything else...the consoles are capable of running the games engine in a more acceptable manner than I think a lot of people give them credit for...thats all...

i did not say that it would not run the game, i said that it will never be able to match the graphical abilities of the pc, i also said straight up that i believed that the PS3 and the 360 could run the game in what is the PC's Medium setting for graphics at a 720p setting w/30fps, however i also stated that the ps3 or 360 could not scratch the surface of the high or above setting of this game as well as play of this game with a controller makes the game unplayable due to the speed and precision of the enemies so i do believe the enemies would need to be tweaked to make it playable on console without support of keys and mouse. i believe a port would be a fine thing to do, but i dont think it would be able to deliever what the PC version has.
