Sony Worked Closely With Rare To Port Sea Of Thieves To PS5

Sea of Thieves is the first Rare-developed game to launch for a PlayStation console, and Sony was heavily involved in helping the studio bring the swashbuckling pirate romp to its flagship console.

Out of curiosity could any of these ms games going to ps5 have been leaked by Sony themselves? Not Sony but someone at Sony

potatoseal87d ago (Edited 87d ago )

Why would Sony want to rock the boat? MS wanted to put the games on Sony's platform, why then would they jeopardize that and potentially damage that future game pipeline? Doesn't make sense. I think rogue Xbox employees leaked. Not developers though, they were happier than a pig in shit to have their creations be played and seen by more people.

shinoff218387d ago (Edited 87d ago )

I corrected it, I'm referring to say an employee at Sony. It wouldn't be the first time an employee from a company leaked something. I mean it's typically how things leak. I didn't mean Sony as a company like the president of Sony out here leaking shit. It's not far off if Sony had people working closely with ms it's not far fetched

GhostScholar86d ago

Rogue Xbox employees 🤣 you people are so far up your own buttocks. Maybe it was one of the many employees Sony just sent packing in favor of ai.

RaidenBlack86d ago

... now it the most wish listed upcoming title by PS community

Eonjay87d ago

Which games are you referring to? Stuff like HiFi seems to have been datamined. If you are talking about Starfield, I think that was a given. I think in general Microsoft leaked some details and that only makes sense and it's easy to see why they want to do that. Specifically which leaves are you referring to?

S2Killinit87d ago (Edited 87d ago )

My guess is that MS did the leaks itself (MS itself, not employees) because they needed to soften the blow to their fanbase. That is usually how these corporations break bad news that can shock consumers in a negative way. This way they control the frenzy somewhat.

SyntheticForm86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Who is this "bad news" for? The "frenzy" eh? What frenzy?

S2Killinit86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

I thought that would be obvious. The bad news was for xbox fans. Who else? Or are we pretending this news doesnt have a PR aspect?

And the frenzy, was a reference to wjat happens when every youtuber picks up on a news that triggers people.

Christopher86d ago

Why would they do that? Industry news is spread daily by internal people, do you think Sony would want Microsoft to leak what they obviously know about Sony's plans? Why would they go all toxic and do that when others could do the same to them?

Because it's coming to their platform...?

Profchaos87d ago

Because the last non Microsoft system rare made games for was the N64 this is the first rare game ever on a PlayStation system ofcourse there's a learning curve

SGT_Squirrel87d ago

They released Diddy Kong Racing in 2007 and Viva Pinata in 2008 on the Nintendo DS.

Obscure_Observer86d ago

Because Sony wants Playstation gamers to have the best gaming experience as possible.

Elda86d ago

Not with that game...lol.

Obscure_Observer86d ago

"Not with that game...lol."

Well, Sony clearly disagrees with your opinion, which means very little actually since the game is already a hit among Playstation gamers according to pre-order numbers.

Elda86d ago

The game looks whack. Some PS gamers play games that I may find uninteresting & vice versa. I highly doubt SOT will be that hit game on the PS5.

sony isn't about to let some console wars get in the way of trying to make microsoft become a third party dev by showing them that they make more money with them than without them. of course with that in mind they'd help them. it's also doubly so because microsoft are bringing what is considered a popular game over that can also make sony money

Tzuno87d ago

lost time and money, this game will have the fate of watch dogs legion

franwex87d ago

I would agree with you, but I guess the pre orders are high for this game. So I guess people actually want to play it.

shinoff218387d ago

I'm not interested but I think your wrong. People want pirate.

Asplundh87d ago

Watch Dogs Legion ended up selling over 10 million copies, not a good choice for an example there.

RomanPSX87d ago

Really? All I heard was ppl trashing the game. Is it any good? now I feel like trying it.

Asplundh86d ago

I haven't tried it myself. I remember thinking it looked good and then like you I heard it was bad and never touched it.

Michiel198986d ago

@roman I played it when it released, really fun game especially if you got a group of friends to play with.

Profchaos84d ago

Benifits of being a launch title it was a extremely bad game but the choice of what to play was pretty slim I know I had it and miles Morales not much else so I understand why it sold well

Sea of thieves has been around for 7 years. Watch dogs legion 4 years. Sea of thieves is about to get a whole new community so how on earth will it get the same fate at watch dogs.

Barlos87d ago (Edited 87d ago )

Nice.

Still don't want it though.

Tell me Killer Instinct is coming to PS5 and then we'll talk.

Barlos87d ago

Wouldn't it? I'd be all over the recently released anniversary edition.

darthv7287d ago

Which killer instinct would you want... the Rare one or the iron Galaxy one?

Barlos87d ago (Edited 87d ago )

Iron Galaxy. This is the one I played on my Steam Deck about a year ago. Deck ran it very well at 60fps with all max settings but the servers were terrible and 90% of the time I couldn't get a game so I got a refund. Would expect it might be better now following the release of the anniversary edition a couple of months back, if the anniversary ed came to PS5 then I'd be all in.

Mind you, I love the Rare originals as well, so I wouldn't say no to a KI classics collection with SNES KI, N64 KI Gold and the arcades 1 and 2. Not sure who owns the rights to these though, and if it's Nintendo - which I suspect it will be, we'll never see them on PS5.

darthv7287d ago

you should look into Rare Replay for the classic KI games.

One of many low hanging fruit that would have improved the game

anast1d 2h ago

Better tech, better devs, and Morrowind like freedom would have improved this game.

Wow, both options sound terrible.
