Hands On: Unicorn Overlord Has the Potential to Be One of 2024's Best RPGs - Push Square

Anyway, the bottom line here is that Unicorn Overlord has serious potential. Between Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Persona 3 Reload, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, RPG fans are already eating ridiculously well in 2024 — but you need to keep an eye on Vanillaware's latest, even with the likes of Dragon's Dogma 2 closing in. If any studio deserves a smash hit, it's this one.

The demo sold me on the game. I will be picking it at some point.

I know they're branching out and evolving and that's great, personally though I'd have liked them to carry on making games like Dragon's Crown and take the genre to new heights.

Great game. The last game Grim Grimoires didn’t interest me much at all but I enjoyed 13 Sentinels a lot. I would also like an upgrade and expansion of what Dragons Crown did as well but I do enjoy tactics games so I am happy about Unicorn Overlord. Actually Grim Grimoires is the only game that I saw where I wasn’t really interested from Vanillaware that I can remember. Muramasa was great also

PS5 is killing my free time. I will definitely get this game and I’m fairly sure I have it preordered but damn when will I have the time for this FF7R, Rise of Ronin, Stellar Blade Eiyuden Chronicles etc etc etc.. I will have to push something aside and buy it a little later there’s just too many games to play in the next 6 months.

Me too. I'm literally looking at unplayed games in my library and trying to figure out the time to play them.

I was told we didn't have games.

We still don’t have first party games or even a roadmap. Sure we have 3rd party or times console exclusives but thats not what we’re talking about here. It is what it is but I expect better from Sony.

The demo was really good. I’ll definitely pick it up.

And I can't play it due to one stupid oversight.

The frame cuts in combat give me motion sickness.

Why...why in a turn based game did you think the enemy and player needed their own frames and cut between the two?

Enjoy. This game is so much fun and so addictive.

I heard great things and I am a fan of most Vanillaware games so I’m looking forward to it. Waiting for my kids to fall asleep and I’m good to go

Wonder is it like Valkyria Chronicles or Fire Emblem.

NotoriousWhiz38d ago

I only played the Valkyrie profile on the DS. I'd say it's most similar to a cross between Ogre Battle and Fire Emblem.
