First Impressions: PlayStation VR 2 Review

The PlayStation VR 2 is a substantial upgrade on its predecessor, with a high-resolution OLED display and more ergonomic controllers.

From all accounts, it feels like there's a solid place for this in the market. I actually see Quest 2 as a very different proposition. It's like the Switch, where the PSVR2 is like the PS5. There's a place for both, but one is just higher end.

Tacoboto509d ago

I do agree. I've decided to hold off on PSVR2 until there is a wireless solution and/or connection with PC, but the tech at the price for PSVR2 is a steal compared to the tethered competition.

The Quest 2 has been a dream for VR held back by weaker power since it is wireless, but that freedom is so unmatched when there are solid experiences not reduced to mobile games for the face. Which is too few and far between because it's needing a Quest 3 as much as Switch needs a Pro or 2, and the biggest competition I'd realistically imagine was PSVR1 confined to the 2013 PS4 power level.

not bad thinking, yeah I agree with you

You can connect to your PC via WIFI with Quest 2, or tethered. But if you're talking stand alone power, i mean it's a mobile chip.. what do you expect really.

Someone will probably easily get PSVR2 working on PC, whether games will take advantage of features is another question unless officially supported, or games being modded for that.

Good thing with Quest 2 is it's great for streaming full blown games using virtual desktop

Charlieboy333508d ago

So a single thin wire limits your freedom too much? What...do you sprint around the room like a headless chicken when you play?

Tacoboto508d ago

"what do you expect really."

It's years old and Meta even said they're intending to release a new one in 2023...

"So a single thin wire limits your freedom too much?"

The only open space in my living room is diagonal from my system by 10'. Like normal people, I have furniture, and an active dog. My PSVR1 got used a handful of times because it was a hassle. VR2 is better but a cable dragging a dozen feet is still a cable.

Yeah so Sony should do it too. Officially.

lucasnooker508d ago

I was also going to purchase the psvr2 but held back because of no compatibility with pc and/or wireless lol

VivaLaManual508d ago

Streaming PCVR games to Quest 2 is simple. In fact, I don't think I play a single native Quest2 game on mine.

Very nice analysis. I have my PSVR1, my Quest2 and eventually this year my PSVR2 to go alongside them!

My wife did ask why I needed so many headsets, thought I was crazy for wanting a PSVR2. I think of them like consoles though... and they do look really cool on the shelf together!

crazyCoconuts509d ago

Ive sold my PSVR and Rift S on eBay so I've got an empty stand that I hope to use for this.

deleted508d ago

@crazyCoconuts I would sell my Quest 2 also if we knew 100% PSVR2 is compatible w PC.

I play about 85% of my Quest 2 on Steam VR. MS Flight Simulator a lot lately.

Abear21508d ago

This is my problem, already have a Quest 2 so it’s all about must have exclusives for PSVR2 to get my purchase. GT7 is a good start

SullysCigar508d ago

No official announcement, but it's just a USB-C and I can't see it taking long before a workaround is found. An official solution might as well follow soon afterwards lol

crazyCoconuts508d ago

Drivers would have to be written by the community, and seeing what they did with PSVR 1, I am hopeful someone will figure it out for 2. I'd be surprised if Sony released the drivers themselves, but the more I think about it the more I think it makes sense for them to do so.

Kurt Russell508d ago

I wasn't going to, but FOMO is starting to set in.

Kurt Russell508d ago

I did this afternoon Sully, saw a few more 1st impressions and FOMO won. Picked up the version with Horizon on pre-order.

DigitalDaniel509d ago

Waiting for my pre-order, less than two months away now =D

S2Killinit509d ago

I LOVE it. I want it to be here already

Palitera509d ago

Honestly, though, a lot of console indies are being released only for Switch and some for XBox. Sony has the best AAA by far, but it's time to open for more indies, as it was in the previous generation. Otherwise, it would be just a handful of VR titles to use the VR dispositive.

jznrpg509d ago

There are so many indies out I only play some of them . Store is flooded with them .

shinoff2183508d ago

Ps has as many indies as Xbox though so I don't exactly follow palitera. Maybe more to be honest

crazyCoconuts508d ago

Based on my PSVR experience, there will be no shortage of indie VR games lol. It's the AA/AAAs that are difficult to get until the market gets bigger
