Noting to do a 180 for. It's not a gamepass competitor. It's just additional service for extra games per month. No watered down first party games on release date. Refresh of games each month. It's just PS+ but extra. TLOU 2 and R&C will join at some point.

The fact is everyone bought those games, because they're awesome. That's why those developers are thriving. They try hard and are duly rewarded with critical acclaim and money.

Day 1 exclusives on a subscription service are a bad idea, imo. You risk ending up with low-end or big-brand-but-sub-expectation experiences.

People will play it regardless of quality, so corners get cut.

It's ideal for older classics and indies though.

Well, unless you know something we don't, Sony (so far) has zero NEW first party games set to be released in 2023. So I would be careful before run my mouth. Those "issues" can hit both sides.

Besides, we don´t really know which or/if any first party game will be released for Xbox this year before 12th June.

In a perfect world all games would meet their deadlines and exceed expectations by delivering a high quality experience for everyone. Some people love spell bs about how Gamepass will drive development of low quality games. But when a Xbox game gets delayed to meet the desirable high quality, it´s doom and gloom for Xbox.

It is what it is. When comes to Xbox, be damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Gamepass isn't demonized. I think you have to stop internalizing the opinions of other people. You have to be willing to allow people to have ideas that differ from your own. I understand both sides of the Gamepass discussion and think that just because something doesn't work for Sony doesn't mean the same for Microsoft.

The line-up isn't bad at all for the Extra Tier, and that's only around 1/8 of the planned releases (stated to have up to 400). I assume there are more Ubisoft, Square, Capcom, Bandi-Namco, and WB games coming considering they've already been announced and have 3rd party releases.

EA, Activision (we'll see), Take-Two (Rockstar is listed???), Konami, Sega, Tecmo, Embracer, and more are currently missing, so I guess those contracts are still being worked out as last minute. Activision is a weird one to place, because it would have had to had been done prior to all of the acquisition stuff. EA has EA Play and likely will only put their content on PS+ if it's still shown as EA Play or they get a portion of the profits. But the others should be there.

The Classic side....needs a lot of work, but again this is just a sample as it's supposed to have up to 340. So we'll see.

I really like that approach as i have several digital PS1 and PSP games on my PSP and PS3 that I would think should be part of this. Even better would be if they allowed you to validate your owned disc games and get the enhanced digital version as well but I wont fault them for doing this as its a nice first step that could eventually lead to the next. So this is very good news indeed.

well, the good news seems to be that you won't have to signup or pay to play some of the old games if you own the digital licenses.
Seems to be in line with what MS is dowing regarding OG Xbox titles.

Backwards compatibility isn't exactly behind a paywall the article does state that if you previously brought classic PS1 and PSP games you can download and play them without the need for a subscription.
There's also an added benifit of higher resolutions and frame rates on these games with save states.

But yes PS3 is still behind a paywall due to cloud streaming.

PS1 , PSP and PS2 games will all be available to download from the store at no cost of you brought them digitally on the PSP, PS3 or psvita.

I believe PS2 may be an extention of the PS4 backwards compatibility program which already works natively with ps5 and the games are still up for sale I'm not sure if they will merge with PS3 games brought on the PS3 at this stage but I hope so as there wasn't to many PS2 games that reached psn on ps4 but the PS4 had many including all the GTA stories games

Well it’s covered my first year or 2. Signed up for next 18 months. Don’t need to buy demon souls, Returnal, ghost of tsushima or buy death stranding again, got ps4 version and not started so directors cut it us. Classic games seem a bit lacking hopefully they’ll be adding many more on each month, want tekken 3 not 2 😏🙄

Nice list, I'm in! I love 100s of games for a reasonable price. I see some games on the list I have yet to play. Ubisoft + being added is a nice touch as well. Sony is off to a rocking start with this service imo.

Look I am all for these services and bet I will be on PS++, but their hypocrisy is real and I guarantee the goal post will move again, Kinda like what you just said based on your personal preference, " PS owners get the Best of both worlds" which is nonsensical, If you like MS games more then a person will be happy, "in that world", I got a lot of day 1 games with GP and it carries over to my PC and cloud... love it. the "best of both worlds" for me is owning both systems and having ALL the good games that can be had by either console...as a consumer, I absolutely love it.

Frankly, GP still is my preferred proposition, but I will gladly jump on Sony's great out-the-gate start. I am thrilled MS motivated them to invest more in PS plus/now...competition is great for this industry.

Personally I don't like the sub model regardless of whether ms or Sony push it. Mass adoption of convenience over quality is the thing I'm against. As long as it stays a small part of the market it's fine, but if everyone flocks to it, it'll start impacting the big budget titles in the same way Netflix impacted the movie industry. Adding Hulu, Disney+, etc. only makes it worse

Considering the long ass gaps between when ms actually release a first party game, whats really the difference?

With the recent delays we could be waiting from nov 2021 til march 2023 at the earliest fkr a 1st party exclusive.

U are literally paying just for bc and older titles at the moment, only dufference is sonys back catalogue is massive and this is just the tip of it.

Native ps3 would be awesome though although id take the os3 streaming at this point as im in australia so i wont evwn get that option.

Well one would assume those gaps will be far smaller once GP has Xbox Studios + Zenimax + Activision pumping out games on it.

We also don’t really know what’s coming to GP this year though, we’ll likely learn more at their E3 conference assuming they do it like last time and announce that most games are GP games.

We’re also still coming out of the COVID period and delays unfortunately are still common - so I’ll cut them a bit of slack on it, same thing I did with PS5 during its dry spell.

But yes MS first party is a bit dry right now, from what we know.

PS3 back compat, for discs and for PS+ would be king, heck I would pay a subscription for a period for PS3 BC from disk to reimburse the dev costs… the streaming is better than nothing but it isn’t great… and for a while it was the only way to play MGS4 without an actual PS3 (Konami are now pulling that from the service though because… Konami).

You don't need to stay subscribed, people! Gamepass is a rental service to me. I will probably do a month or 2 a year. I tried one month of gamepass and beat Quantum Break and Yakuza like a Dragon. Played a little of the games i was interested in and I'm done.

Why do people stay subscribed?
Most of the big games won't be on a subscription service so why pay 2 months of a subscription service while you play elden ring?

It'll differ per person. If you're just starting out in the world of Playstation, this is great. If you're the average gamer it probably varies, but if you're a hard-core gamer, you most likely own or have played all or most of the PS4 and PS5 offerings. I’m a hardcore gamer and I’m subscribed I’m done buying games day1 to drop in price days after launching. Half assed and broken I’ll still support great devs but my day1 purchases have massively dropped too many games add extras,. Or finish post launch so I’ll finish a game and it’s oh we added a photo mode, too late, or how it’s half price
2-3 weeks later. I get to play Returnal £69.99 and ghost of tsushima that’s my years membership paid for and I can try out all the other games I want for an entire year without an extra spent, for less than £90 (for me anyway got cheaper PSN credit) I can’t grumble still got my backlog with some absolute belters in it and I’ll still support top devs day1 but not half as many as I used to. Gonna be saving me loads of money at least not every game needs buying a lot of gsmes I just wanna play it smash the campaign etc and sell it while it’s still worth something (ie Ubisoft or EA) this service will eliminate that as I can just play them through here, different strokes for different folks. To suggest no hardcore gamer should get it is a bit extreme majority of hardcore gamers will get this it’s purely games 🙌🏻🤷

Wow i havent bought a PS5 yet, this morning i went to buy a phone for my mother and saw one ( with a 4k tv, since dont have one yet ), and my money saved for a new computer almost went down right there .. Also, players who have previously purchased the digital version of select games from the original PlayStation and PSP generation will not have to make a separate purchase or sign up to PlayStation Plus to play these titles on PS4 or PS5. When these titles are released for PS4 and PS5, players can head to PlayStation Store and download a version for the consoles at no extra cost if they already own the digital version of the title. Some of the titles will also be available for individual purchase.

This is a excellent program. Looks like Sony took the initial feedback into account. The line up is solid the backward compatibility also looks to be great with enhancements to the PS1/PSP games and best of all if you already owned the games (like this guy) then you can redownload them at no cost without the membership. Even better that they will be available for separate purchase for those not wanting to pay for the service. I am very pleased with this, I'm also glad its not a GamePass clone. Let the services offer something unique and whats a sustainable business model for each provider.
