CNET's 2021 Game of the Year awards

These are the most exceptional games of the year, along with some honorable mentions.

Different strokes I guess. For me the Psychonauts gameplay is ripped directly out of the PS2 era.

CrimsonWing69892d ago

I mean the gameplay is solid, but yea the design does feel very old-school. I’m not knocking it for that. I just see where you’re getting at. I haven’t finished it, but for me, Psychonauts isn’t the best game I’ve played this year.

Tacoboto892d ago

Have you even watched a trailer for this game? All you do in any article that paints an MS studio/game in a positive light is complain, downplay, or insult it.

Magog892d ago

Yes. It's very similar to the first game. Far too much for my taste. It's like Shenmue 3. A game out of time.

Tacoboto892d ago

And yet it's getting nominated for many GOTY awards, and even wins one. Totally like Shenmue 3, damn you're a bitter piece of work.

Tacoboto you might as well just ignore his type/dupe troll account -if its anything Xbox they always say the same thing like a broken record= "nah its not that good".

On topic Psychnauts 2 was a great game, it wasn't my personal favorite this year but nonetheless its good to see it receive a well deserved GOTY Award.

EmperorDalek892d ago

Yeah but find me a better 3D platformer on the PS3 and PS4 than Psychonauts 2. There's just some things that were done better back then.

Magog892d ago

I'll take any Jak and Daxter or Ratchet and Clank. If you want to count VR (and you should) throw Astro in there as well.

Ratchet & Clank A Crack in Time shits over Psychonauts 2 in every single way as a PS3 game. happy?

EmperorDalek891d ago (Edited 891d ago )

@magog - There weren't any Jak & Daxter games after the PS2 & PSP (not counting the remasters). Jak 1 is possibly my favourite 3D platformer of all time, but the sequels went heavier on combat and driving. Ratchet And Clank is usually a great hybrid of action and platforming, but it doesn't excel at platforming on it's own.

@badz - Same as above. Ratchet has more than serviceable platforming, but it wouldn't carry the game on its own. A Crack in Time was fantastic, but as an out and out 3D platformer? Psychonauts 2 has it beat there.

I have to question if people are getting aggressive over such an opinion since Double Fine is now an Xbox studio. I could easily lump the 360 and XB1 in there, and Psychonauts 2 would still be better than any other 3D platformer on all four systems.

ABizzel1892d ago

Of the three platformers I thought Psychonaughts was the weakest IMO. It was a really good Adventures, but I agree with the gameplay parts being good but dated. Ratchet and It Takes Two were both the better "platformers".

However, I still think Forza should be winning GOTY.

The fact I haven’t seen fist on anyones list bothers me. Not Tales of Arise
