PS Plus reviews: Maneater (PS5) – We’re Gonna Need a Lower Bar | TechStomper

Maneater is an uninspired experience that can offer a few hours of fun. Its early promise is erased by a lack of pacing in its difficulty or progression.

I don't agree. Yeah it was a short game. I ended up 100% it in about 19 hours with goofying around. I honestly had fun and I was sad when it ended. I like sharks and ocean life and I thought the game was fun. Given the limited gameplay the length of the game felt right.
I'm often critical of games but this game just felt goofy and off in all the right ways. I enjoyed the clumsy gameplay. I also liked the sound design and level design of the game. If the game had more content I would certainly play it more and I hope for a sequel because if they do I'll pick it up at full price.

I just ask that you give it a try before judging it off reviews from upty reviewers that think every game needs to be dark souls.

Thanks for reading!

I didn't have any issue with the fact the game was short, more that its progression system maxes out halfway through the game. I don't think this reason for me disliking the game is "upty", especially when Tripwire Interactive have given us such stellar experiences in the past.

I am glad you enjoyed the game though, I definitely had some hours of fun, especially being a bit of a trophy hunter. Still I personally thought the game felt rushed and unfinished in terms of its pacing, which is something every single game should at very least strive to get right.

Cheers :)

You can have fun with a bad game but it's still bad.

And 2/5 isn't irredeemably s**t anyway.

Maneater is no 4
It's easily a 7/8
Fun game
We need more like this

Glad you liked the game and I do agree that we need more shorter, fun games. Unfortunately for me personally, a game loses its fun when you reach its level cap halfway through the game. Especially when that same game consists of identical tasks and shallow gameplay.

Scores are fickle and lost in translation mostly, hopefully if you read the article you can at least see my reasoning behind the low score. I'd much rather discuss points in my review than differences over a number.

Thanks though, I appreciate the dialogue :)

The Hunter I still actively play but, eh, I got my fill. I'll grab it on the next Steam sale.

They probably announced and added most of these last showcase season and chances are they were on one-year deals. So makes sense June would see a high list of departing games than most other months.

Gamepass is starting to go downhill IMO. There seems to be more and more Indy games now and they dont seem to care what games come to Gamepass as long its something. There should be a quality standard or at least try and get more retail games, even if its just older 360 games and Xbox one.
