Cyberpunk 2077 Review | PC Gamer

CD Projekt Red returns with an incredible setting undermined by an onslaught of bugs.

TGGJustin1268d ago

I'm glad that some reviewers are actually calling the game out for the bugs and technical issues. Unlike all the hyped fanboys that are just handing it 10s. Just wait until console impressions come out when they finally send those out to people.

FlintGREY1268d ago

I agree. Some reviewers are giving this game the Nintendo treatment and are ignoring everything wrong with it

AnnaDea1268d ago

Maybe that's because bugs can be fixed in the future. When you play the witcher 3 you don't remember the buggy mess that was in the first release.

TheColbertinator1268d ago

@AnbaDea

I do. Witcher 3 was at times unplayable from all the bugs in the first 4 months

TGGJustin1268d ago

@Anna You shouldn't be ignoring bugs and severe technical issues just because they may be fixed in the future. They should get knocked for that just like games like Fallout 76 did.

SullysCigar1268d ago (Edited 1268d ago )

I skipped TW3 at launch due to the bugs. Played it years later and enjoyed it a great deal, but it's still shonky in many ways - those menus lagging, the fast travel, etc. The game was great for many reasons, but technically it's still wonky in some ways even now. EDIT: Same goes for Skyrim. Even today there are game/quest breaking bugs that make it impossible to 100% complete it - not impressed after the time I put in.

Bugs - patchable or not - should be acknowledged in reviews. Even if they say "but CDPR have promised this will be resolved day one", the reviewer should review what's in front of them now, not what it could potentially be. If devs don't like that, the game needs longer in the oven before it makes it to reviewers.

stupidusername1268d ago

Finding bugs in Nintendo games are very rare though.

AnnaDea1268d ago

"I do. Witcher 3 was at times unplayable from all the bugs in the first 4 months"

Oh, so when you play the game now you remember the bugs instead of enjoying the game? Sounds normal....

"@Anna You shouldn't be ignoring bugs and severe technical issues just because they may be fixed in the future. They should get knocked for that just like games like Fallout 76 did."

Of course they should be mentioned. Never said anything else.

"Finding bugs in Nintendo games are very rare though."

lmao, speedrunners finds so many bug in nintendo games that it's not even funny. The nes and snes era are full of them.

RaiderNation1268d ago (Edited 1268d ago )

@AnnaDea

Games should be reviewed on the merit of the status they are in at the time they are played. Not on the merit of what they could potentially be in the future. Days Gone was a buggy mess at launch and it got reviewed as such. It's a vastly better game now but do I think it should've gotten better scores at the time it launched? Nope! The game was what it was at that time. These 10/10 scores are ridiculous. Bravo to PC Gamer for giving an honest review.

RauLeCreuset1268d ago

@AnnaDea

You have a point. I have a blast with Skyrim. But doesn't that speak to the inherent challenges of trying to convey an experience using a review score? The honest reviewer has to find some way to translate the experience into a number (or letter) AND ensure they're consistently factoring in the same variables proportionally across reviews.

SegaGamer1268d ago

@AnnaDea

You can't just ignore bugs that may or may not be fixed in the future. If they are ignored, then there is no incentive to fix them.

stupidusername1268d ago

@AnnaDea
"lmao, speedrunners finds so many bug in nintendo games that it's not even funny. The nes and snes era are full of them."

What's that got to do with it? Most people aren't speedrunners. Of course you're going to find bugs if they spend hundreds of hours with the goal of finding them. The point is that people who play Nintendo games as they should be played usually find incredibly few compared to other games.
Reviewers who played Cyberpunk found tons of bugs playing the game as it should be played. Imagine how many they'd find if they spent hundreds of hours trying to find bugs.

1268d ago
TheColbertinator1268d ago

@Annadea

"Oh, so when you play the game now you remember the bugs instead of enjoying the game? Sounds normal..."

Maybe if they fixed the bugs before launch I wouldn't have brought them up. How come Nintendo games can launch with barely any bugs? Because quality control is kryptonite for greedy publishers.

-Foxtrot1267d ago

It's the issue with much loved developers who have earned their way to the top, once they are there gaming journalists are either scared to touch them incase they get blacklisted or they worry about the studios die hard fanbase.

TGGJustin1268d ago

Reviewers weren't allowed to use their own footage in reviews either. You only do that and refuse to send certain platform keys out when you are hiding things. Reviewers shouldn't be there to market your games for you. They are there to critique it and that isn't being done right with 2077.

darthv721268d ago

So what is TGG's take on it then Justin?

TGGJustin1268d ago

@darth When they send us a console code to review it like other outlets are also waiting on I'll tell you. No game that has gone gold should be refusing to send out certain platforms.

neutralgamer19921268d ago

AnnaDea

What really? You review the game that is playable now not what it could be. And this game will launch with bugs and glitches due to this pandemic and unrealistic amounts of hype

Most early reviews will be extremely biased because most reviewers have themselves bought into the hype. I will wait for ACG and Nick930

AnnaDea1268d ago

You sound biased by telling yourself that others are biased.

It's like you want the game to be bad lol

neutralgamer19921268d ago

No as a gamer for more than 30 years I know when media members buy into the hype it is very hard to get Fair reviews of any product not just for gaming. Why would I want this game to fail it's one of my most wanted games but I also want the developers to get actual feedback on what they need to fix instead of just handing out perfect scores

porkChop1268d ago

It's crazy that not a single reviewer was given console code. What are they trying to hide? From what I've heard the game itself is fantastic, it's just the bugs that really drag the experience down.

Honestly reminds me of when The Witcher 3 launched. That game was essentially broken on release and took a month or two for them to get the game in an acceptable state.

I get that reviewers are playing without the day one patch, but a day one patch won't be enough to fix all the issues. I might hold off on playing and just finish Like a Dragon in the meantime.

RazzerRedux1267d ago (Edited 1267d ago )

CDPR has always been a PC developer first and foremost.

"Cyberpunk 2077 got updated last night, fixing many of the engine quirks I had. Also NVIDIA released drivers specifically for it. "
https://twitter.com/JezCord...

Father__Merrin1268d ago

the only fanboys that have been claiming this as the second coming are the pc crowd if twitter is anything to go by. my observation over the last few years is the pc crowd just show you witcher 3 non stop as they feel its a defacto exclusive possibly because they can get it to run good.

AnnaDea1268d ago

So minus 2.2 for bugs? Kappa

neutralgamer19921268d ago

Yes bugs and glitches shouldn't be promoted and we shouldn't be saying it will be fixed in future. Review the game in its current state

AnnaDea1268d ago

So we should ignore the upcoming day 1 patch then according to you?

neutralgamer19921268d ago

Give that patch to people reviewing. It's not that hard and CDPR have been acting very weirdly around the launch of this game

AnnaDea1268d ago

It's a day 1 patch that releases on release day like any other game. It means it's not ready and will be on wednesday night.

Why would they even stress a patch for some reviewers when they are more worried about what the actual players think?

Rachel_Alucard1268d ago

That "Day 1" patch is the Day 0 patch they keep throwing around. There is no "Day 1" patch.

njitram20001267d ago

The review mentions the 50GB patch and that it made little difference to the bugs.

gleepot1268d ago

You shouldn't review a game with the assumption that a patch, even if day one, will fix everything. It won't. A game should be reviewed based on what is delivered at the time.

StoneyYoshi1268d ago

I think the review should also be updated if the game is patched to make the experience better. With how often games are patched these days, I believe reviewers should do this for the sake of late adopters not being scared away by issues that aren't happening in the game after a patch.

I personally know a few people who avoided Days Gone because of the reviews they saw that were talking about the performance issues it was having. A month later the issues were for the most part resolved but they didn't know that because the reviewers didn't update the review. Don't you think those games deserve an update to their review stating that the said bugs mentioned in the review have been fixed?

AnnaDea1268d ago

Yes, the day one patch is for all to download on release day. Of course it will not fix everything, but what patch does that?

This is beginning to remind me of all the hate TLOU 2 got and that was mostly from retarded millenials that couldn't accept anything outside their own limited ass lmao.

EazyC1268d ago

I guess tolerance for bugs will be a major deciding factor. Personally I'd still rank Fallout New Vegas as my favourite game, and at release it was horrendous re bugs.

Funnily I've decided to not play it until l can get my hands on a PS5 and that's increasingly looking like it won't be until sometime next year so hopefully will be better when I get to play

neutralgamer19921268d ago

I love NV but that game had major points docked for all the bugs and glitches so why should this be any different

CantThinkOfAUsername1268d ago

Skyrim was just as buggy as NV, and got 94 from this very site.

Kane221268d ago

hell them not allowing console review should send red flags. but since its consoles they don't care..

neutralgamer19921268d ago

They should care since the game will sell more on consoles

StoneyYoshi1268d ago

You sure about that? W3 sold more on PC compared to consoles, so what makes you think this will certainly sell more on consoles?

neutralgamer19921268d ago

Maybe you are right I think many pc gamers are potentially xbox gamers too but they don't have to buy a game console since pal those games are available on pc

But no doubt oc gaming is huge with or without xbox gamepass/games

waverider1268d ago

Finally someone that isnt bias. A game with bugs and glitches cant have perfect scores. The game was delayed how many times? Because of stuff like this reviews shouldnt have numbers....opinions...

Cyberpunk 2077 Director On 95% Positive Steam Rating: "Never Thought I'd See It"

Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way from being one of the worst games on the planet to being one of the best ones.

DustMan13d ago

I shelved it after a few hours in game at launch, glad I didn't refund it. One of the few games I've actually completed in the last year, and after finishing the campaigns I wanted to just jump back in from the start. They pulled a No Mans Sky and finished one of the best FPS in the last few years.

Games That Were Bad on Release, But Are Now Great

BLG writes, "Some of the most popular games have had a rough start, with some of them being downright unplayable.

Despite that, developers have managed to turn it around for them and make their game worth playing. Here are some games that had a rough start but were pretty great."

Good list..hoped to see Street Fighter 5 there..and it is.

Vits25d ago (Edited 25d ago )

Sea of Thieves... I'm not disagreeing that the game has improved in terms of content. But I feel that the most significant change between now and its release is actually the public perception. Nowadays, most people are aware that the game is a multiplayer PvP-focused experience first and foremost, and not "Black Flag made by Rare". Consequently, people dismissing the whole experience because the single-player aspect is lacking or the story is plain are much less common.

darthv7225d ago

Several years ago, i submitted an idea to Rare that would change up the mechanics of battling opponents in the game. whereby if you died in battle, you turned into a skeleton warrior and had to fight your way back to the land of the living. It was an interesting twist on respawning and would allow the player to experience both sides of a battle.

I keep hoping to see something like that get added to the game.

Kaii25d ago

They consider FO 76 & ME Andromeda to be great now 🤭

anast25d ago

Every game in the last 2 decades...

INMATEofARKHAM25d ago

It's sad that this quick retort is more often than not true... The industry's acceptance of release and patch has gone too far.

gunnerforlife24d ago

Days gone! By the end of the game I couldn't drop it down! I went around so many hours killing zombies! It was addictive by the end.

S2Killinit24d ago

That game was just plain good game. It didnt improve, it was just good.

gunnerforlife24d ago

I don't know, I got it abit late, and struggled for a few days, and then all of a sudden it just got good!!

Well they are using unreal engine now thanks to there work culture and horrific job on making cyberpunk so for the future no impact.

But it will be interesting to see what mods will be made

just_looken37d ago

7 disagrees shows how many look at one dlc that had a rip off fight from ghost in the shell and goes wow what a goat team i love cdpr while ignoring that they only made 2 games that were good witcher 2/3 in 20yrs.

But its a new world we want a criminal that support's legal murder as president/support shoplifting love toxic work environments and have a mass casualty event every other day.

GhostMirror37d ago

I’ll admit I didn’t play it at launch, but Cyberpunk 2077 is a really good game now.

And who the hell knows what you’re even going on about in your second paragraph here.

EazyC37d ago

Wait a min...I swear to god CP2077's source code got leaked before. CDPR needs to stop using "password123" for all their accounts 😅

just_looken37d ago

Na its hundreds ex employees no doubt just getting there revenge.

Profchaos36d ago (Edited 36d ago )

This is the same leak the threat actors have been trying to sell the source code after cd project didn't pay the ransom.

They didn't manage to sell the source code to any company largely because it would be unethical for say EA to buy it so the threat actors failed to find a buyer.

After they failed to make any money they went through with their threat of simply giving it away.
