I remember many saying that crossplay would revive dead lobbies of multiplatform multiplayer games, most likely for their platform which doesn't have many users as it were.

I've not heard anything since about any game having a continued increased player base due to this feature. No comments from anyone from websites to N4G commentors that championed for the feature to be implemented.

For N4G the question begs to be asked, if you don't like a particular console for whatever contrived reason, why would you want to play with the playerbase you deem toxic?

Finally, there's crossplay with PC which just highlights the reason why crossplay is not such a great idea with its rampant cheating.

I was against crossplay from the beginning and now having a good chuckle at its inevitable outcome.

Crossplay lobbies generally detect input and match accordingly. I would assume that this will be the standard. The ability to opt out of crossplay is becoming an option as well so I don't see this becoming and issue.

Additionally I am not sure if you are being purposely dishonest or just ignorant to the main reason why crossplay is appealing.

I want to play with my friends regardless of the platform. This is smart. This makes sense. Crossplay is the future. Get with the program.

@GamesAsAService although I did neglect to say in the above comment I do believe that there should be a choice to turn cross play on or off for those that do not want to use the feature. That has been my belief from the very beginning, it is good that for this game, Warzone, Sony gave the choice whereas Microsoft did not from what I read on N4G.

My bad I left that part out, but no one should be forced to play a feature they don't want to use. That's like PS and XB bout making it mandatory that to use your system for any reason you MUST have Plus or Live. I don't think too many people would be happy not having a choice and be forced to subscribe to a service they never wanted.

I know that people would like to play with their friends on different platforms which is fine, but many do not want to be forced into cross play because some like the ability to do so. Choice matters, no one likes their right to choose be taken away and told to get to with the program.

I am more against not having a choice more than I am against cross play itself, and have stated that from the beginning of console cross play. PC cross play speaks for itself why that's not the best of ideas in many genres besides FPSs.

some games seem to be more susceptible to competitive cheating, and even with tons of safeguards the PC crowd is really adept at being able to circumvent anticheat measures.

This. Crossplay’s great for PvE like DCUO, WWZ, Warframe (even tho’ Warframe doesn’t have it). The problem is PvP.

Personally I’ve never had an issue filling a PvP COD lobby. Certainly never asked to play against cheaters. If they can’t fill a lobby without us, that’s Leeroy Jenkins’ problem. Not mine.

Activision shouldn't ban players. They should create a few specific servers for cheaters, when each time they enter, the cheaters get redirected to those servers to play with other cheaters... that way, they never get mixed with other players on legit servers.

As for this news article? I don't know how it is news. So what they are saying is that gamers are exercising their ability to turn a menu option off in the game. That is about as much of news as someone telling me they turned down the music in a game. What would be news is if the game did not have the option.

Ps and pc have had cross play for a long time. No one really cares. I doubt many care now, but since it became a big thing it ends up having less than desirable results.

There is also the paradox that even if something good is done, that people apparently want, you'll have another group who doesn't want it, and will complain about it.

I turn off crossplay by default in any FPS. Cheating is rampant in PC FPS games on a level that I don't think the average console-dedicated gamer can comprehend (I game a lot on PC but these days avoid multiplayer FPS on PC for that reason), on top of the KBM advantage...it's a no-brainer to cut them off. There's absolutely no reason NOT to unless server/lobby population is getting low.

I really dont get why they dont just use hash tag tracing when booting a game, and with random inputs. Periodically do a system call that cant be intercepted on the OS level and you effectively kill bots. It would take a bit longer to boot the game or levels, and maybe cause a random input lag spike every million or so times its run, but the overall advantages are more preferable for the honest player. There really arent any games which use this stuff and it always baffles me why

Depends on the title for sure. It's generally a bad idea to have crossplay for FPS games between consoles and PC, but inter-console crossplay is fine. And crossplay with PCs works great in Rocket League (my rank is the same on both PC and PS4).

I play with cross play on due to some of my friends being on both PC, and play station (I’m on Xbone). I constantly come out on top, so this whole controller advantage arguments are BS. You just suck, plain and simple. Turn it off and play a match, most likely you will still suck. Only pro-pc players have and advantage due to having mostly superior hardware.

Now regarding cheaters, I’m not sure if I have encountered any yet. But that’s on Activision to make sure that they have the tools in place to detect them. It is to their advantage if they want to keep their players buying season passes and crap.

From the onset of the console crossplay push I said that I was against the feature. I said if anything the player should have the choice to choose whether or not they want to engage with other platforms. I got some disagrees and push back saying how it will revitalize dead lobbies of dead games.

Now people are saying that they would like to have the ability to turn off cross play because there are PC players who are cheating in games. Suddenly choice matters when before it did not.

PC has always had its cheaters which shouldn't come as a surprise, so what happens when you throw consoles into the mix, rampant cheating that's what. Although consoles seemingly doesn't have as much cheating, there should still be a choice to play with other fanbase and not forced against your will.

Developers/publishers and gamers think combining the two bases will breathe new life into the game, but a dead game will remain a dead game because people move on to the next hot thing, cross play can not work miracles.

Crossplay with PC/Console is not good for the FPS or RTS genre due to keyboard and mouse imbalance, any other genre is fine I feel.

The fact is that there are inherent problems with crossplay based off of the systems they come from. Switch has lag, PC has cheaters. Ps4 and xbone are the most similar, but dont really benefit from crossplay, other than some competitive games or shooters. In theory, yes, crossplay would be fun with the right type of game, but until then, most people will opt for turning it off, rather than keep it on.

Crossplay for console vs pc, should NOT exist in ANY game, period.

Cheating and KB/M are barely issues, which get highlighted a lot by everyone, and can be fixed with good anti-cheat measures and input based playlists.

But the underlying advantage of PC is FREAKING HUGE compared to a locked console.

Fied of view / framerate / resolution / level of detail / variable refresh rate / ALWAYS LESSER INPUT LAG THAN CONSOLES / any input device of player choice / ini file edits or even console commands from in-game, ON THE FLY / multi-monitor setups, and I can go on and on about the million other advantages we have.

The ONLY platform which enjoys an advantage of crossplay (if it's between all platforms) it's us on the PC, because most new big games, if theyre not from Valve/Blizzard/Riot Games and some games from EA (and of course the MMO's and F2P games and the odd viral titles like PUBG), die within weeks of launch and we enjoy crossplay with console because the buying population on console is 10 times more than PC, that's where the retail money is.

It sucks for those of us on PC, if they remove us from the crossplay future, but its the right thing to do, like PUBG crossplay between CONSOLES ONLY.

We just gotta push our people to buy more games, to retain a consistent daily active playerbase or just have to crossplay with mobile gamers I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can you blame them? One of the reasons i dont bother with pc online since 2006.

I still love my single player games on pc but all my other online gaming is handled by three consoles.

Cross play can be a great thing if companies can do better at detecting and controlling cheaters. As well as an option to allow controller players to only pair up with those who use controllers. But I know theirs a device that helps PC cheat and get around that to. The PC community sadly ruins it for themselves. While Console gamers are happy and content with playing with other Console gamers through cross play. Just cut PC out of it

yep, turned it off after i encountered hackers in warzone, have not had a problem since. Wish they did have option to select crossplay platforms that way i could select only console crossplay. Until they fix it. Crossplay will remain off. Not that there are a shortage of players any platform anyway. COD is very popular on every platform. So finding games is never a problem unless your playing older versions maybe.

Majority of pc players cheat its why crossplay blows and anyone saying ban cheaters is a fucktard if anti cheat software worked we wouldnt have cheating theres no such thing as a anti cheat that works it may slow them down but thats it
