Aeris, her name is Aeris. It's to late to change that now, I know it was mistranslated in the original game but it's to late to correct that. We all grew up playing her with that name (unless you changed it) so why not keep it since it's been this way for over 25 years?

Kados1736d ago

Actually, technically it is Aerith. It was Aerith in the Japanese release, which came out before the NA release. Aeris was a mistranslation.

Tross1736d ago (Edited 1736d ago )

Actually, if you want to get really technical, it’s エアリス, which is spelled Earisu in romaji. Japanese is less versatile than English in terms of the sounds that can be made with it, and there is that pesky rule that consonants almost always need to be accompanied by a vowel, so there are quite a few different ways it could be translated into our language.

The Su at the end can be translated as just an S. There is no Th in the Japanese language, but it’s not far enough removed from the original sound to be a wholly invalid translation, and it sounds alright in English.

The possibilities don’t end there. What’s normally translated as an R sound in romaji is the liquid consonant that can be used for L or R as the actual sound really is neither. An I sound also sounds like Ee in Japanese. The far more common name Elise would have been a valid translation too, and it’s possible that was supposed to actually be her name. Whether the translation staff misunderstood the liquid consonant, or wanted to give the character more of a fantasy-sounding name, Aeris/Aerith is what they went with though.

Regardless of how her name is pronounced, this up and coming voice actress now has a great role to add to her resume.

Spacemagic1736d ago

Yeah, he said that. He also said he grew up playing with her name as Aeris. I did as well. He's not wrong, her name is Aeris.

killswitch801736d ago

If you really want to get technical ..who cares.

SeanScythe1736d ago

Wow did you even read what I wrote before you commented? Doubt it since I said what you said.

It was just Aeris because japanese ppl have a tough time pronouncing th and make a more s sound. And then square of america decided to just use th instead. Not really wrong either way shes both Aeris and Aerith in our hearts.

TricksterArrow1736d ago (Edited 1736d ago )

I also grew up with "This guy are sick", "Beacause you are a puppet" and "Toph Ring", don't make them any more right.

bluefox7551736d ago (Edited 1736d ago )

I like Aeris better anyway, I'll stick with it.

I honestly didn't much attention to Aerith's voice during the reveal trailer I was more mindblown at how the game looked in both the cinematics and gameplay I hope she does a good job on the project.

Jonasellekjaer1736d ago

Will be playing it in japanese voice either way, it seems most true to the nature of the game, as well as the origin. Japanese games are simply just more original with japanese voices.

But hey, that's just one man's opinion. To each thier own.

I think it has more to do with the fact that you made your post in a thread for one of the English VAs, and the way you phrased it kind of came off as a bit...trollish. If it was a misunderstanding fair enough, but context can make all the difference in how someone perceives your comment.

Nu1736d ago (Edited 1736d ago )

She is hot I'd quench her thirst

Butters3601736d ago

She's well on her way to becoming THE definitive Aerith voice.

Take-Two CEO: We're So Focused on Delivering More Value Than We Charge

Take-Two head honcho Strauss Zelnick states every time they establish a price, they want to make sure it's "good news for consumers."

It's the why we close servers after 2 years, why we re-use the same assets every year, and why we bundle our game with enjoyable microtransactions.

Running digital casinos in every game

Rebel_Scum2d ago

Re-using assets is not a bad thing tbh. Development is all about re-using code, assets and components.

neutralgamer19922d ago

Can you please focus on delivering enough quality content to justify the $70 asking price? While I appreciate the idea of over-delivering, it's essential to ensure that the base content itself is worth it. I have concerns that GTA6 might have less single-player content because most of the focus seems to be shifting towards online play and microtransactions

Inverno2d ago

The sleaze oozes out of these gaming CEOs faces. It's honestly disturbing how distorted people look when you've realized how money obsessed they really are. He gives off "in one ear and straight out the other" vibes.

jambola2d ago

I really don't get it
like
do they think anyone believes what they say?
is it that being in charge surrounds you by so many yesmen that they get deluded into thinking everyone is like that?

JackBNimble2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Well if you look at the last 10 years you will notice there wasn't as single paid dlc. Every update was free whether you want to complain about sharkcards or not.

They're going to make billions on this game especially if they keep the same formula as last in regards to updates.

Good-Smurf2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Selling Shark cards and removing content are not exactly "good news for consumers" lol.
The last time they released any DLC worth playing was 15 years ago.
GTA V is so broken and unbalanced that people would rather do stupid cringey stunts with than do heists.

JackBNimble2d ago

I'm sure the player base would disagree, and gta5 is still being supported, much longer then most games, after all I bought gta5 day 1 on ps3....
