Trials of Mana Is an Ambitious Return to One of Square Enix's Long Dormant Series

Undoubtedly, the Trials of Mana remake is and was overshadowed by Final Fantasy VII Remake. While the fanbase is smaller, it’s really interesting to see Square Enix taking this new initiative in the west. They are bringing series that are considered monumental staples in the RPG genre over to western fans who, in many cases, haven’t had a chance to go hands-on with them for years. First, it was with the western release various Dragon Quest titles, and now it appears to be the Mana series.

Trials of Mana is an outlier when compared to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest as it’s the only one that relied on action RPG mechanics whereas the other games were turn-based. Masaru Oyamada, a producer on the game told DualShockers that “Secret of Mana was very popular, the original version, even before the remake. We knew that many fans wanted a new title and for Seiken Densetsu 3, as it was called originally, to come west. We wanted to challenge ourselves with providing the original version of Trials of Mana and the new version as well. We embarked on a new direction compared to Secret of Mana.”

Unlike the remake they did of the original SNES game this had game some tlc put into it.

I'm glad to see Square showing the Mana series some love. I hope we the same for the Saga series. It would be amazing to see a Saga title built from the ground up on current or next gen consoles.

Haven’t seen a Mana game with this high a production since 2007’s Dawn of Mana

Microsoft's quest for short-term $$$ is doing long-term damage to Windows, Surface, Xbox, and beyond

Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's plans to increase every department's margins.

"The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed "Latitude" internally, and I know there's debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. At least for now, they're potentially obvious games you'd most likely expect. And yes, while it's true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I've heard, Microsoft is pushing for no "red line" for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood's mandate to increase every department's margins. "

Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware.

"Yeah, they are going to kill Xbox hardware."

It's for the best.

Quit stringing along xbox fans and screwing over PlayStation owners.

crazyCoconuts3h ago

Take good care of those Xboxes if you have 'em ...

outsider16243h ago

An Xbox game on a Playstation. Never in my years of gaming did i ever thought this was gonna happen.

gold_drake9h ago

i think it will kill off the xbox brand. windows will be fine.

but there is and would be a chance that xbox might be killed off in the future. if they fail to make the money they put in. imo.

S2Killinit7h ago

They wont kill it, but they will go fully PC while keeping xbox as a brand, and go multiplatform for the most part. They will also work tirelessly to diminish console gaming’s importance.

PRIMORDUS4h ago

It would be best if Xbox goes the way of Sega, just make and publish games. I know I myself will not support them at all with buying games from them, you all can. 🙃

ChasterMies2h ago

The Xbox brand will live for the games. I don’t expect Microsoft to entirely drop out of gaming hardware. They make Surface tablets and laptops. They’ll make Xbox branded hardware for those that want it.

Forza and Starfield next?

Skuletor7h ago

Starfield would be no surprise and there's the rumor that it will come to Playstation after the Shattered Space DLC, Forza (along with Halo and Gears of War) I find less likely but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually end up on PlayStation too, especially if Xbox give up on hardware and go the Sega route.

shinoff21837h ago

Not to worried about forza. I'd rather see others like what inxile and obsidian are working on. Starfield sounds like it needs more time in the oven so let it cook first imo. If starfield and it's a small if does release on ps it'll be in the fall around the time for dlc or right at the dlc and come packaged with it.

In the words of Phil Spencer when he was talking about Nintendo last year

“It's just taking a long time for Microsoft to see that their future exists off of their own hardware"

S2Killinit7h ago

Yup. MS are a cancer to console gaming.

Aloymetal6h ago

100%!!
I wonder what happened to that dude that was always here posting those court articles with cartoons about MS spending all those billions in studios. He suddenly disappeared, I guess he doesn't like bad news when the green brand is in trouble. No new articles from him as of late...

PRIMORDUS4h ago

Yup, and it's only going to keep spreading.

Phil Spencer's words always comes back to bite him lol

Nintendo confirms its commitment to physical games

In an era dominated by digital downloads and streaming services, the importance of physical media in gaming remains a topic of discussion.

Of course, Nintendo has always preferred physical sales, especially since they skew to a younger audience, and kids want games for their birthdays and holidays. They go to the store and pick the game they want.

Since the Wii they have always been the last major publisher to support modern tech or concepts, and they will be the last to support physical if it ever goes away. Which I hope it doesn't.

darthv727h ago

Nintendo just likes sales in general. If they can sell digital more, they would because the 2nd hand market they do not get a cut of. For me, i tend to buy more physical switch games than I do other platforms. I do have my fair share of digital deals from the eshop though. Especially if its something that i have a sealed physical copy of and dont want to reduce its value.

Cacabunga6h ago

Then I know for sure who I will be supporting

neutralgamer19927h ago

OK, but you need better format where these games could actually fit instead of half of the game being in physical form and all I have being on a digital code or have to download

Hofstaderman7h ago

The one caveat with cartridges. If the leaks are true the internal storage stands at 256gb plus SD card support too.

franwex3h ago

You could have a 256gb card and a 10gb card. Publishers will simply use the 10gb one and make you download the rest.

Inverno6h ago

There are cards that can fit all of a game but those cost more, and publishers are cheap. It's weird cause with how much the switch has sold and how long it's been on the market the costs to manufacture these cards should've been much lower by now. It's a publisher issue cause there has only been very few exceptions on PS and Xbox, rest of the industry would rather force a download despite Blu-ray being cheap.

shinoff21835h ago

Your right. It's definitely a publisher issue. From my time collecting that's what I've come across. Just always remember

Doesitplay.org

Tell you everything you need to know about releases.

Flakegriffin3h ago

Pretty sure most, if not all, of Nintendo first party titles are all on cartridge. It’s the third parties.

ActualWhiteMan7h ago

Yeah it artificially retains the high prices for their software. Hence Pirates will always have their day with them.
