Epic Store users are being blocked for too many purchases, and here's why

It appears as though Epic blocks accounts of users who buy too many games too quickly. The company stated it was part of its attempts to stop fraud.

So consumers are punished for making legit purchases. I'm sure people would love to buy multiple games at once, yet the store doesn't even have a f**king shopping cart. You must make one purchase at a time. What a f**king joke. Add in the fact that China is known for the worst security in the world, so in a way this makes me very worried what would happen when they do add a shopping cart.

harmny1822d ago (Edited 1822d ago )

News flash: cold war is over.

People like me who are neither from China nor USA laugh when we hear you talking about China like USA doesn't gather information from everyone. the NSA are saints, lol. And that's excluding Google and Apple and all the silicon valley companies that know everything about you.
Nothing will happen when they add a cart

Elwenil1822d ago

Paid shill account here...

MrBitch1822d ago

Cold war had nothing to do with China.... Also the spying is on other Governments not usually on civilians, while the NSA is shit they usually wont steal your credit card like scam artists taking advantage of shitty Epic Store security.

PapaBop1822d ago

Cold War might be over (not sure how that's relevant here anyway) but there is definitely a lot going down in the cyber space between China and the West. You must have been living under a rock if you haven't heard anything about Huawei in recent months. That's just the widely reported stuff.

I know right, Americans are against Russia and China as if they are any better. I say within few years they going to incase and commit genocide. What's new right?

knickstr1822d ago

What does bad security have to do with the cold war?

warriorcase1822d ago

I see people reference Tencent and information gathering because they own a large stake in epic but never see any mention to the other 700 companies they are also invested in including Ubisoft, Take 2, Reddit and not to mention the 20 foreign subsidiaries they own like Riot Games. They are invested in social media, food, hospitality, utilities, gaming, transport and nearly everything else. People say they avoid epic because of the Tencent boogey man but are probably already investing or supporting another one of their revenue stream already. Tencent is the Chinese Disney with fingers in every pie.

Epic games isnt a Chinese company. They're based in central North Carolina. Tencent's owns part of epic, but they operate autonomously like many Tencent companies. Tencent isnt collecting any information on you that they likely dont already have from any number of other places you likely think are trustworthy.

Goldenarmz1822d ago

This happens in most places, make to many big purchases via Credit/Debit card and see how quickly your bank cuts you off. This is nothing new.

W34KN35S1821d ago

"but but all you have to do is click on another store launcher icon .... its no big deal " /sarcasm

killswitch801821d ago

when they adding the cart you will be able to buy multiple games at once. Stop making a big deal out of nothing. These are the reasons I am switching to Epic Store mostly. At least it won't be filled with toxic cry babies. Just a bunch of chill people that love to play games and not act like spoiled children trying to fight some fake war.

Buying games in large quantities being banned an attempt to stop fraud.
Hmm so you're admitting now your service is easy to hi-jack Epic?you don't say?

Larrysweet1822d ago

Anyones service is easy to hijack next excuse for hating on digi store takes 2 secs of time to load

1822d ago
rainslacker1822d ago

It's not hijacking to use fraudulent information to make credit card purchases. I'm sure the blocks would be removed once the account was verified.

I've had Amazon put a freeze on my account when I made too many purchases once. I like to have all my preorders on their own purchase because it makes it easier to sort while waiting for them, and recieved games drop off the open order list. Since I use prepaid credit cards for online purchases, it got flagged as a potential scam. This protects the company, and even the user.from being responsible for fraudulent purchases.

So stop with the fear mongering. It's getting old that people can't focus on the real issues that could improve EGS, and instead go around making snarky comments and if they somehow got a one up on Epic. I've never seen a.community turn on another company as quick as they have on epic. They were once considered one of the best developers and engine makers out there, and commanded respect, both in the community, and the industry. Now people act like they are the devil incarnate just because they decided to compete with steam, and buy up exclusive games.

I have no bone in this fight. I dont really use either service, but a lot of these kinds of idiotic comments are the kinds of things which distract from valid criticism, and makes it so people dismiss valid criticism or those who make it, because everyone gets lumped into the irrational haters group.

Godmars2901822d ago

Guess this is what you get for trying to outright buy customers rather than earn them through good will and service.

harmny1822d ago

Gog has good will and service. And nobody buys from them.

Gwiz1822d ago

Also the industry at large avoids them, but it's not entirely true.
The Witcher 3 sold a lot on GOG as well.

MadLad1822d ago

I have over 100 games on my account ..

2pacalypsenow1822d ago

Umm people buy from GOG all the time, they have all the classic games.

Seafort1822d ago

I have 200+ games on GoG and 1600+ games on Steam. You were saying?

Skuletor1822d ago

Just bought Blood: Fresh Supply last week and have over 100 games on GOG myself.

I also don't see the sale prices that include the $10 off anymore. I did grab one thing before the prices reverted, but this whole sale has been one huge cluster.

Larrysweet1822d ago

Its there at checkout...yall fuss fuss fuss

IanTH1822d ago (Edited 1822d ago )

I do see that the discount is now applied when checking out. They changed it from how it was initially without any kinds of heads up - just adding another touch of confusion to the whole process. I assume they did this to appease developers by making their games appear to have the MSRP upfront while still providing the discount.

I ain't fussin'. If I was fussin' about Epic, I wouldn't have bought anything from them in the first place. But with devs being caught off guard, games getting pulled from sale, prices of games like Hades changing 4 different times, the way the sale prices appear and are applied...I mean, I can't see how you could classify this sale as anything other than a cluster lol.

rainslacker1822d ago

I agree. I think epic should have asked these pubs and devs if they wanted to participate. That's how steam sales are. Pubs or devs get noticed of an upcoming sale event, and they can opt in. Depending on the sale, steam either reduces its cut, or just takes the standard cut.

The power of the pricing should always be in the publisher of the game for these kinds if services.for many reasons....some of which are contractual on the publishers end. Even if they dont lose out in actual revenues. If epic wanted to have a sale, just do a general coupon on the purchase of anything.

XabiDaChosenOne1822d ago

Imagine being kicked out of gamespot for buying "too many games"? Teh future is digital!!!

Nexon has released its financial statement for 2024's first quarter, and it looks like FPS The Finals isn't proving the hit the studio was hoping for.

Too bad for the best fps there is atm...

Sgt_Slaughter3h ago

The market for games like this is too over saturated to make a dent in other established games' player counts. Trying to start all over with a whole new multiplayer meta and grinding to get better is not feasible when there's already a ton of similar games that have come out before it.

Tons of games coming to Game Pass soon

Coming to Game Pass: Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II, Immortals of Aveum, Lords of the Fallen, and more!

Microsoft's Absurd Antics Have Me Scared For Dishonored And Arkane Lyon's Future

With Arkane Austin no more and Lyon living for who knows how long, the superb Dishonored is in serious danger; Microsoft cannot be trusted.

Relientk771d 4h ago

I love the Dishonored series so much and really want Dishonored 3. Microsoft better not screw this up.

JEECE1d 1h ago

I mean, I think the fans will probably kill Arkane Lyon by cooking up reasons to hate whatever they do next without playing it. I've never seen a game so artificially disliked as Deathloop.

thesoftware7301d 1h ago

Lol, why don't we just say, we are worried about all studios owned by MS now. They will keep closing studios until they have none left ...🙄

Skuletor22h ago

Just merge them all into a single studio, have it churn out a single Call of Duty every year and call it a day, lol.

Barlos22h ago

Don't be scared, you'll be fine.

Skuletor22h ago

It's exputer, fine is one word I would not associate with them.

Profchaos21h ago

I think it's becoming clear based on matt bootys comments there's no future for any IP that can't sell above 10 million within the launch window. But is also a small game that gives them prestige

/S it's beyond a joke right now
